Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time February 10, 2019

JMJ February 10, 2019

My Dearest Parish Family, God be with us always. “Finally . . . Praise God.” This escaped my heart and was expressed in my lips when I finally got the email that the Contract to Build the Covered Patio in our parish. After four years of raising the amount needed, going through all the necessary paper works and requirements of the Diocese to have it approved we are about to witness the construction to start. We just never gave up because we know that in the end God will come to our aid. I would like to take a shout out of gratitude to our Construction Committee that came, worked, struggled and prayed together to get the job done. The Scripture reading for this weekend reminds us of how God will provide us the strength we need to accomplish what He has inspired us to do. What we need is to have indeed the Spirit of the Master, our Master being Jesus Christ the Son of God. The Spirit in which we are to pattern our lives with is what we heard in last Sunday’s St. Paul’s 1st Letter to the Corinthians Chapter 13. We must strive for the more excellent of the gifts we have been given which is love. This weekend we celebrate four Family Masses because we recognize how important it is for families to come together to worship, to encounter a Loving God and each other. It is a time when we bring our lives to God and bring God’s grace to transform our lives. This weekend we make one these Masses special with the Celebration of Scouts Sunday. The scouts who are being formed and given opportunities to be equipped to become responsible citizens and leaders of the future. Kudos to all the leadership, the scouts and their families who undertake this wonderful ministry that makes our youth transcend and become the better version of themselves. We are all in this together this is what Christianity is all about. We are called to journey as a community of the faithful –

flawed but continually being transformed by the grace of God. However, like the Prophet Isaiah, St. Paul and St. Peter in Sacred Scripture we need to be open and approach God our Loving Father by creating grace-filled moments. The Eucharist is the perfect moment for these moments to happen and for empowerment to occur. We can always allow the Spirit to move us. Next week we are going to be challenged to respond to the invitation to participate in the ministries of our Diocese and provide for the needs of our parish family. I am praying that you have read the letter, reflected and prayed about our response to the Pastoral Services Appeal. So fear not as Jesus our Lord tells us because we are in this together. See you next week. God bless and take care. Love and prayers,

Fr. Thomas Paul K. Naval

Dios bendiga y cuide. Con amor y mis oraciones,

Fr. Thomas Paul K. Naval

Again, this year our diocese is providing opportunities for us to share our resources through the

PSA “We Are One, Living the Gospel Message” campaign. This annual campaign supports diocesan ministries in

many ways. This year our Parish’s share of the costs of these ministries is $133,000; donations received over that

Thanks to the generosity of the Santiago parishioners, Operation Shoebox was able to deliver over 325 shoeboxes to the homeless and needy of Orange County. This was a record breaking number of shoeboxes collected! A special

thank you to Religious Education and Simbang Gabi for participating in this years drive. As a Catholic Christian, we are called to live our faith and giving to the poor and needy is one of Jesus' great examples to us. Thank you!

OFICINA Y SALON PARROQUIAL CERRADOS
