INTRODUCING PEEL AWAY PAINT REMOVAL SYSTEM TO THE NEW ZEALAND MARKET

Peel Away is a revolutionary, unique and environmentally friendly paint re-moval system that can remove multiple layers of paint at any one time. It has a proven history of success having been widely used in Australia and the United Kingdom for over the last 25 years

What makes this product unique is the ease of application. The product is thick paste that is applied to the surface by hand or sprayed then covered with a laminated cover sheet which allows the paste to be sealed and emul-sify the layers of paint. After a set time of two to three days the laminated cover is carefully removed with the paste and the layers of paint attached to the cover sheet that can be disposed in a safe manner then wash down the surface with water. When dealing with older paints containing lead Peel Away has a benefit of trapping all the loose particles in the paste and fully contains the softened layers of paint as well as ensuring safe containment of any contamination.

Peel Away is suitable for commercial, domestic, industrial, automotive and marine applications. It can be used on surfaces such as brick, concrete, soft-wood, hardwood, fine furniture, marble, steel, cast iron, fibreglass, plaster and for asbestos removal.

Among many other successful applications Peel Away has been used on noteworthy sites including Auckland Harbour Bridge, Christchurch Arts Cen-tre, Real Groovy Records Queen St and Auckland War Memorial Museum to name a few.

APPLICATION GUIDEPAINT REMOVAL SYSTEM

1. It is always recommended to carry out a test patch evaluation first as there are differ-ent types of paints and surface conditions.

2. Apply Peel Away paste between 2mm to 3mm thick covering the surface evenly. Application rate varies according to age, type and thickness of the coatings. Note: an application of 3mm thick is satisfactory in most cases. However up to 6mm may be required for very thick exterior paint systems.

3. Completely cover the paste with printed Peel Away fibrous laminated paper and smooth out any air bubbles. If required pierce air bubbles with a pin. Only use Peel Away paper.

4. Tape up the edges with masking tape for optimal results.5. Leave on the surface for 24 - 48 hours for interior use or 48 - 72 hours for exterior

use depending on the number of layers and the age of the coating. It generally turns to a dark brown colour when it is ready to be removed. Note: On very porous surfac-es remove Peel Away as soon as the laminated paper cover starts to turn from light brown to a dark brown.

6. By sliding a scraper behind the paper ease off the paint, paste and paper in one piece.7. Remove in small sections and scrape off loose debris and residue and place in thick

plastic tie up bags.8. Thoroughly wash the surface with plain water, a nylon brush and a sponge9. Neutralise the surface using Peel Away neutraliser concentrate for Peel Away 1(refer

to detailed instructions for throughly neutralising wood and plaster surfaces) (Peel Away No 8 is non caustic and pH neutral and therefore does not need to be neu-tralised).

Note: For all surfaces including timber ensure substrates are completely dry prior to repainting. Use a moisture meter to check the dryness of the surface. It is recommended to use an all acrylic paint system. Alternatively for damp surfaces we recommend using an epoxy water based undercoat such as Epoxyseal WB, Epocote F100 or Hydrepoxy 300 followed by finishing paint coats.

Removal and Cleaning:

• For ease of removal it is recommended to cut the sheet into smaller sections with a knife

• For each section slide the spatula behind the laminated cover and gently lift the paper cover, paste and paint. If the paste is slightly dry when removing due to high tem-perature mist it with water.

• For best results immediately wash each section throughly with water, a nylon brush and a sponge. For any spots of paint that are not removed further apply a thin layer of Peel Away for half an hour to an hour without paper and then remove.

Safety Precautions:

• Always wear gloves and protective clothing. • Use long rubber gloves taped to the sleeve to prevent skin contact.• Wear eye potection at all times when stripping paint fro ceilings.• Protect any surface not being stripped with polythene/plastic or protection boards

with taped edges.• Do not scrape old flaking paint. • Apply Peel Away directly over existing surfaces. • Dispose of contaminiated waste in solid or in liquid form in compliance with local reg-

ulations. Consider using thick tie up plastic bags.• Refer to label for safety instructions.

First Aid:

• If poisoning occurs contact a Doctor, the Poison Information Center or in an emergen-cy call 111.

• If swallowed do not induce vomiting. Give a glass of water.• If skin contact occurs remove contaminated clothing and wash skin throughly.• If in eyes hold eyes open and flood with water for at least 15 minutes and see a Doc-

tor.
