A. Review current infrastructure status within Europe Review and overview (national and European scale) of existing and planned Observational infrastructures (networks/observatories) and laboratories Data access and repositories B. Evaluate European scale data access and integration requirements Identify/define: 3. Responsible institutions and contact persons 4. Expectations/requirements from the user community 5. IT/software requirements for data access/products/integration (meta data, QC, provenance, etc) 6. Data and products interoperability requirements (aim at existing/developing IT standards for interoperability) Main WG targets for EPOS IUGG / IASPEI (Global) International Association of Seismology and Physics of the Earth ESC (EuroMed) European Seismological Commission FDSN (global) International Federation of Digital Seismograph Networks (EuroMed) Observatories and Research Facilities for European Seismology (EuroMed) European Mediterranean Seismological Center Board of Directors Executive Committee Participants Assembly of all members Coordination bureau Executive Council GEO - Group on Earth Observations Current European and global coordination (waveform) observations in earthquake seismology ISC USGS Permanent broadband seismic stations in operation in the European-Mediterranean area From ~ 30 BB stations in 1987 to ~ 1000 BB stations in 2008 GFZ ODC INGV IPGP FDSN/IRIS SeedLink/ArcLink Network Multi-national Data Archives & Portals National Data Archives & Portals VEBSN Real-Time Data Offline Data Temp. Coordinate and integrate ORFEUS and EMSC organisations Should ORFEUS and EMSC remain separately or integrate? (services for research community broad public earthquake information) B. How to integrate ORFEUS (and EMSC) within EPOS? Both ORFEUS and EMSC have an existing governance and financial structure. These should not be replaced before an integrated EPOS solution is available that guaranties the basic funding for both organisations. C. Take advantage of EPOS to extend collaboration in Seismology RIs (mobile, OBS, acceleration, SP, infrasound, )? D. Should WG1 integrate also other activities: Borehole observations (see NERA), induced seismicity (THAIS), ?
