Installing iPod touch Apps Installing software on iPod

touch or iPhone is ridiculously easy. All software applications (known as "apps") can be found in the App Store section of the iTunes Store. Most people know this by now, but I should mention that iTunes works on Windows computers just as well as it works on Macintoshes. The App Store is organized much like the Music Store.

Web Apps

www.apple.com/webapps/are websites that are specifically designed

for iPod touch and iPhone's Safari browser.Apple lists hundreds of web apps in

their directory. However, you'll notice a lack of an Education category. But, you can find some really useful web apps in other categories, particularly in the Calculate andProductivity sections.

Nearly all web apps are free to use. Some do include advertisements. You should know that a definite disadvantage to web apps is that they require a wireless Internet connection. No connection = no access to the web app. You don't experience this issue if you download and install software applications.

Apple's directory isn't the only place to find web apps.

Check out: iLounge, iPhone Applications List, and Everything iCafe.

On your iPod, go to:  wakoopa.com or

app.getleaflets.com/applist, which are actually web apps that are directories to dozens of other web apps.

iPod touch audioYou can watch a short video tutorial

from Apple that shows you how to download audio to an iPod touch. Like iPod nano and classic, you'll use iTunes to manage the music and other audio on iPod touch.

Besides getting audio from CDs and the iTunes store, you can download audio from the web. Once downloaded, drag and drop the file from your desktop to an iTunes playlist. iPods can play audio in these file formats: MP3 (.mp3), AAC (.m4a), AIFF (.aif), WAV (.wav), and Apple Lossless (.m4a).

iPod touch VideoBesides getting video from the

iTunes Store, you can download video from the web.

Once downloaded, drag and drop the file from your desktop to an iTunes playlist.

It's important to note that iTunes can play a variety of video formats, however, iPods can play video in only these file formats: H.264 (.mp4) and MPEG-4 (.mp4). If a video plays in iTunes but not on an iPod, select the video in iTunes and choose Convert Selection for iPod from the Advanced menu.
