Congratulations to...Engineering program graduate Alexandra Manaves, who was one of only 200 students nationwide to receive a renewable $10,000 scholarship from global aerospace, security and advanced technologies company Lockheed Martin. She will use the scholarship this fall when she transfers to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to pursue mechanical engineering. The award was the result of an assignment in her English 1102 class with Professor Bob Hazard. After more than 25 years, Director of Legislative Affairs and Special Assistant to the President Mary Ann Millush will retire at the end of this month. While it would be easy to focus on Mary Ann's departure as a loss, we, instead, express our gratitude for her exceptional service to the College. View the Video Wired for Fun: The Youth Academy and Manufacturing Technology department recently hosted its first GADgET Girls Camp. Students, aged 11 to 14, worked through the manufacturing process, learned how to use manufacturing equipment and participated in off- site field trips to Mitsubishi and Pioneer Services. View the Video Focus on Art: Don’t miss this season’s Visiting Artist Series presented by the Fine Arts program in collaboration with the Cleve Carney Museum of Art. The season will feature lectures and workshops from six artists who are committed to engaging with materiality through diverse mediums and practices. The series runs from September to April. Kudos to...Keaton (pictured) and Parker Duwelius, for their Lumino Visual Timer, an innovative learning device for elementary kids and students with disabilities who struggle with classroom transitions. Keaton, currently a student at COD, and Parker, who earned his associate degree from COD in 2016, both work for Krejci Academy, a private, therapeutic school for children with disabilities. Summer Speech: Thirty-one students from in-district and out-of-district high schools recently participated in the third annual High School Summer Speech Camp at COD. The students worked with alumni, current and former members of the COD Speech and Debate team, and veteran high school faculty to develop public address, oral interpretation and limited preparation performances.
