Chairperson’s Message
Like so many other Adult Children growing up in the grips of alcoholism I was left feeling unwanted, unloved and alone. My life was like a rocketing train that I was trying to jump on as it passed. I didn't know who I was or what I wanted. There was no real living, just surviving.
In the rooms of Al-Anon I started to understand how the disease of others be-came my dis-ease. I learned that the tools I had were broken and basically useless. Others told me there was hope. Our litera-ture backed them up. People told me to be of service. I took a cleaning commitment at a meeting that I didn't want, because I needed the acceptance of others. All I got from that was another resentment. Lucky for me those in service taught me service isn't like a job at a restaurant. It is a way to help others, and the return is spiritual growth. This is why service is an integral part of my recovery. I am learning it is possible to do for others without expecta-tion. I truly love the 12 Steps, Traditions and Concepts that designed my path to a relationship with a Higher Power and tools that work for living life.
At the AIS Office:
Siobhan resigned from the office late last year. She worked for our office for almost two decades bringing a special lev-el of kindness to newcomers and members alike. We want to wish her well on her future endeavors and send her a warm thanks.
We are in the process of restructuring the office and a part of that is new hours of operation. The office will be open Tuesday to Friday from 10AM to 5PM and Saturday from 10AM to 2PM. The board

was listening to members when they asked for more accommodating hours and we hope being open on Saturday will provide this.
Early this year we will be adding two part time employees to the office. Pres-ently, we have Chelsea working as a tem-porary employee. She is supporting Dodi who is now our Office Administrator. Together they have accomplished up-dates to our database and the upcoming January Meeting Directory. The office also began a “Book of the Month” select-ing an Al-Anon book that will be offered at a discount. So, get in and get yours.
As always the office would love volun-teers. If you are interested in expanding your 12th Step work please consider spending time at the office. I would like to personally thank those who currently volunteer. Your example in service and dedication to Al-Anon as a whole teaches me so much.
I look forward to serving the Los Ange-les area Intergroup throughout 2017. My goal is to carry on the great work from Natalie T., our 2016 Chairperson. She worked diligently to get the office in an ideal place to serve tour community effi-ciently. Thanks to the 2016 Service Board and Intergroup many of the goals for last year were met and carried out. It really was a year of doing.
With love in service,
Nichole S.
