A Message from the President It’s finally Spring! I am really happy about the fact that the temperatures are starting to warm up, and I don’t have to shovel my sidewalk anymore. It’s time to enjoy the outdoors again and there are a lot of great community events coming up: • March 25th, 11 am to 4 pm, at Adams County Regional Park – Come to the annual chow mein and shrimp dinner hosted by the Brighton Japanese American Association. This is an annual tradition that started back in the early 1960s. Thousands of meals are sold not just to Japanese Americans, but also to local ranchers and farmers. All of the money goes to Adams County charities and a scholarship fund. • May 28th, 11 am, at the Nisei War Memorial located at Fairmount Cemetery - The Nisei Veterans Heritage Foundation is dedicating this year’s 66th Annual Community Memorial Day Service to honor the recent recipients of the Congressional Gold Medal. The program will pay special tribute to the members of the 100th Infantry Battalion, the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, and the Military Intelligence Service. We are asking anyone that served in the 100th Infantry Battalion, the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, or the Military Intelligence Service, or surviving relatives of deceased members, to please contact the following committee members to RSVP for the service: Gayle Goto at 303-594-5839, [email protected], or Jamie Chikuma at 303-525-0429, [email protected] Mile Hi JACL is proud of the fact that two of our board members, Jessica Moy and Donna Hansen, were selected to attend the 2012 JACL/OCA Leadership Summit. Over three days, thirty participants (15 from JACL and 15 from OCA) engaged in a unique opportunity to expand their knowledge, sharpen their skills, and deepen their commitment to achieving equity and equality for our communities. Participants had a chance to meet with a large number of leading AAPI advocates and experts on an assortment of issues. This year’s guests included the likes of U.S. Senator Daniel Inoyoue (HI), Delegate Mark Keam (VA-35), EEOC Commissioner Stuart Ishimaru, Tina Tchen the Chief-of-Staff to the First Lady, and Michael Lieberman of the ADL Washington Counsel. We would love to hear your suggestions and feedbacks. Please come to our next board meeting on April 5th at 6:30 pm and let us know how we can serve you better. We meet at the Japanese Association of Colorado’s Office, located on the second floor of Sakura Square.
