A MESSAGE FROM MAYORALAN M. ARAKAWA

Aloha,

Welcome to the Winter 2014 Recycling Guide, where you will find the most up-to-date information on how and where to recycle and reuse items, dispose of trash and even make a little money in the process. As our County continues to grow, it is important that we make wise decisions about how we handle items and materials that are no longer of use to us.

Some of these items may be useful to others, and we ask that you take a little time to make sure these items reach the appropriate people and organizations. Other materials can be recycled, and now more than ever it is vital that we recycle everything we can. Please take the time to learn what kinds of items can be recycled at our County recycling centers, as well as those that can be recycled in other ways.

For items that cannot be reused or recycled, we have our hard-working ‘Opala Pickers, our dedicated County refuse collectors who even work on holidays to make sure that trash is handled properly and safely. Please follow directions carefully if you visit the landfills; our expert landfill staff members are there to assist you, and to help protect our ‘aina.

Working together, we can make sure that the paradise we call home con-tinues to be the beautiful, clean and safe place we all know and love.

Mahalo for your kokua,

Alan M. ArakawaMayor, County of Maui
