SIP & PAINT
Sip and Paint is a growing popular craze
where a group of people get together for a
fun filled afternoon of painting and of course
a sip of their favorite beverage! And that
they did. Held at the TLTC this group of
ladies showed their artistic side. With all
supplies included in the price and the step
by step instructions by our Hostess Amanda, masterpieces
were created by all. Thanks again to Sue and Brian for setting
up this wonderful event.

Hibernation is Ending, Tips to Keep Yourself and Animals Safe
You can’t drive or walk through the trails without
seeing a deer, but did you know that those cute baby
fawns will not start wandering until they are 4 months
old. The mother will visit them 2-3 times a day to
bring food and check on them. If you see them nest-
ing please don’t approach them as you may attract
other predators.
Birds have started building nests to lay their eggs, they like to
build under eves, in wreaths, plant pots or anywhere they will be
able to keep the nest dry. Once the eggs are laid they will be-
come very protective and will visit the nest multiple times a day.
Try to stay away from the nests as much as possible to they don’t
swoop down on you. If by chance a baby bird falls
from it’s nest you can scoop it up and put it back, the
parents will not abandon it as they have a limited
sense of smell.
The Black Bear population has been growing for the last 20 years
in Pennsylvania, thus more and more sightings have occurred. As
bears come out of hibernation they are hungry,
they can be attracted to trash cans, barbeque
grills, bird feeders, compost piles and bee-
hives. Be proactive by keeping your trash cans
covered and visiting the dumping station regu-
larly, keep trash cans clean using soap and
bleach, take in bird feeders at night and store
any bird or pet food in a closed shed.
John Keats (1795-1821) was an
English Romantic poet. He was
born in London and was the
oldest of four children and lost
both parents at a very young
age. Keats began studies to
become a surgeon in the fall of
1810 and became a licensed
apothecary in 1816 but during
that time his devotion and pas-
sion for writing never ceased. He left medicine to
begin writing and published his first volume of poetry
in 1817. He published three volumes of poetry during
his lifetime but only sold 200 copies by the time he died
in 1821. Like many poets, his popularity increased after
his death.
While on a walking tour of Scotland and England in
1818, he received word that his brother, Tom, was suf-
fering from tuberculosis. He left the tour to care for him
and during that time he met and fell in love with Franny
Brawne, who was the inspiration for his finest poetry.
Sadly, he contracted tuberculosis after coughing up
blood in 1821. “ I know the color of that blood. That
drop of blood is my death warrant. I must die.” He
died at the age of 25, after writing poetry seriously for
six years.
Mother’s Day – May 13th, 2018 A little short story for Mother Day
A mother was sick in bed with the flu. Her little daughter wanted so
much to be a good nurse. She brought her mother a cup of tea.
And her mother took a sip of the tea, and she said, ''Wow! I didn't
even know you knew how to make tea!'' And the girl said, ''Oh, yes.
I learned by watching you. I put some water in the pot, and then I
put the tea leaves in, and I boiled the water, and then I strained it
into a cup. But I couldn't find the strainer, so I used the flyswatter
instead.'' And her mother said, ''You what?!'' And the girl said, ''Oh,
don't worry, mom. I didn't use the new flyswatter; I used the old
one.''
Motherhood can be messy, frustrating, and at times, exhausting.
Mothers try to be the best mentors while raising their children. They
hope that their children become functioning adults. They can raise
their children exactly the same, and they might turn out so different.
Raising children with unique personalities is rewarding. Knowing
that each child has a sparkle from their eye is also rewarding. The
strength that comes from within mothers is remarkable. So it is very
appropriate to say “THANK YOU”, and to honor all the mothers we
know. Please reach out to extend your gratitude.

WHERE'D THAT PHRASE COME FROM?
KNAPSACK
The Knapsack has long been an essential accoutrement for soldiers on
the move. Worn on the back, these bags offer troops an efficient hands-
free means of carrying critical supplies, especially food, which is how it got it's name.
Dating back to the early 1600's, “knapsacks” is a combination of the German
words, knappen, roughly meaning to snap, bite or eat, and sack or bag.
The “knapsack” as it was spelled in German, was literally a food bag.
“Along with a uniform, each soldier was issued a knapsack to carry food and supplies.

Cardboard Classic 2018
Well the weather didn't stop this long anticipated event from kicking off at Jack Frost. The snow
came down as the cardboard sleds went up…….. Making their trek uphill to take their position in
the blinding snow on the tubing slopes. The large crowd of spectators eagerly awaited to see
whose sled would make it down the hill in one piece. Our own Brian and Sue Denham along with
their entourage created once again another masterpiece. They built a replica of the jalopy from
the TV show Beverly Hillbillies entirely out of cardboard, tape
and paint. Many Trails residents came out to brave the storm to
view their sled and cheer them on. Before the race began friends
and family tailgated in the parking lot and got the opportunity to
walk around and view all the sleds up close. The grand prize win-
ner was AGAIN our very own Brian & Sue Denham. It was another
fantastic day with lots of community spirit. Thankfully everyone
made it home safely during the storm. What a way to end winter.
Please hurry Spring.

EASY NO BAKE EASTER TREATS
Ingredients: Twinkies, Icing, Marshmallows, Pretzels, Easter M &
M’s, Bunny Peeps
1. Starting with the Twinkies, you will need to cut a rectangle out of
the top of each cake. Do tis about 3/4 of the way down the cake.
2. Now stick the peep Bunny into the space you just cut out. Then
stick in the pretzel right in front of the Bunny.
3. Next cut two marshmallows in half with the icing as your “glue”
stick the marshmallows on the cakes to represent your wheels.
4. Use the same icing and stick an M & M in the center of each
marshmallow.
