Sanibel Island is one of Southwest Florida’s most picturesque island escapes. Here, residents are surrounded by the natural beauty of the island and all of the wildlife that inhabits it. The island is beautifully preserved, thanks to the Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation, and the support and participation of Sanibel’s residents. While nearly 5 million people come to visit Sanibel Island during the year, roughly 7,000 permanent residents know what it’s like to live in paradise every single day. Why not join this lucky community?

Are You Ready for Island Living?

ClimateSanibel Island, like the rest of Southwest Florida, has a subtropical climate, meaning every day is a beach day! From April to September, temperatures typically range from 85F-95F with high humidity and scattered afternoon showers, especially in the late summer months. From October to March, temperatures usually hover around 70F-80F, but a nice ocean breeze can make for some chilly winter evenings.

Beach LifeSanibel Island is home to several beaches, each boasting one-of-a-kind views and plenty of opportunities for wildlife sighting. Because of the island’s unique east-west orientation, all of Sanibel’s beaches have an abundance of beautiful shells constantly washing up on the shore.

ResidentsThough many of Sanibel’s permanent residents are retirees, the island offers a laid-back lifestyle suitable for families with school-aged children as well. The Sanibel School is a K-8 institution that offers excellence in education, while partnering with “Ding” Darling Wildlife Refuge, Sanibel Shell Club, and other organizations to give students a chance to learn more about the island they call home. While there is not a high school located on the island, students will have the opportunity to take the bus to a Lee County high school. At the end of the day the reason people buy on Sanibel is because of the uniqueness of the Island 70% under conservation and the lifestyle in living on the Island

Real EstateSanibel Island offers a wide variety of accommodations, including condo-miniums, townhomes, beachfront estates, and single-family homes. In July of 2008, the average listing price for accommodations in Sanibel was $628,300, compared to $748,500 in July of 2018. According to Zillow, this shows an 18% increase in value over the past decade. For comparison, the national average listing price in July of 2018 was $217,000, meaning that homes on Sanibel Island are nearly 3.5 times more valuable than the average American home.

Pick Your Paradise!Sanibel Island is comprised of four districts, each of which offers unique elements of the Sanibel experience. One thing is for sure, though - no matter your final destination on the island, we’re sure you’ll be happy to call Sanibel Island your home!
