A few words from the President, Comm. Hon. Santo Santoro With Easter only a few days away, we are dramatically reminded that almost a third of 2017 has come and gone. Maybe it’s because I am getting old but time does seem to fly much quicker than what it did even 10 years ago, let alone during my teenage years! The good thing is that much good continues to happen in our community and we at the Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Qld) always seek to contribute to good things and good outcomes. This brief newsletter is meant to keep you up to date with what’s happening at the Chamber. I would ask you to please take note of the upcoming functions, these being the Aperitivo Italiano at Bucci Restaurant on the 2nd May and our Annual Gala Dinner on Saturday 3rd June. Please include the dates of the above mentioned functions in your diaries. These two functions represent great fun and networking opportunities and are not to be missed events! You will also find some very interesting reading from past ICCI (Qld) intern, Luca Baldissera, who as you will note gives credit to the Chamber for his current employment situation. We also profile two of our great corporate members – the Royal Hotel and Russo Lawyers. We again encourage all of our members to patronise and utilise the services of our fellow members. WHERE HAVE OUR PAST INTERNS ENDED UP AFTER THEIREXPERIENCE AT ICCI Qld?

We have asked the interns who joint the ICCI Qld in the last few years to tell us about

LUCA BALDISSERA I am Luca Baldissera and from April to July 2015 I worked as Event &Trade intern at ICCI Qld. I have an extremely positive memory of that period and theexperience I lived there was definitely positive for my present professional career. TheChamber’s international environment, the interesting business people I met and the entireworking experience helped me a lot in being much appreciated in what I am currently doing.Indeed, after the internship in Brisbane, I successfully graduated from Ca’ Foscari Universityof Venice in November 2015 and I immediately started working in the Sales & Marketingdepartment of Zandona’, an Italian brand and manufacturer of Personal ProtectiveEquipment for Motorcycling, Horse Riding, Winter Sports and Mountain Biking. The companyis well known for the quality of it’s 100% Made in Italy products and for being specialists inthe production of these products. My good knowledge of English and the international trade experience with ICCI Qld providedme with some of the most important qualifications that convinced Zandona’ to employ me.Indeed, my role consists of developing the export sales of our products, expanding thebusiness abroad, enhancing brand knowledge at the international level, taking care of ouragents and distribution partners in many countries, efficiently implementing the company’smarketing strategy through social media, trade magazines and via customer testimonials.I frequently take part in international business fairs and trips (I have been at EICMA inNovember, I will be in Rome in May and in Koln next September) where I meet businesspartners from all over the world. I like my job and after more than one year, I can confirmthat the company is satisfied by the experience I brought into the company. I believe thatsome credit for this belongs to ICCI Qld.

After a winless season in 2016, Ferrari kick-started F1’s brand-new era in the best possible way in Australia.

Sebastian Vettel secured Ferrari’s first win in a season-opening race since FernandoAlonso won on his debut for the Scuderia in Bahrain in 2010. You have to go backeven further for Ferrari’s last win in Australia: 2007, when another debutant - KimiRaikkonen - triumphed. For the first time in more than four years Ferrari lead theFormula 1 drivers championship, after Sebastian Vettel beat Mercedes' LewisHamilton on merit in the opening race of 2017. The German says Mercedes remainthe benchmark, but believes his performance shows the Scuderia are ready to takeon the Silver Arrows of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas. It was Vettel’s 43rd career victory, his fourth for Ferrari, and his and the PrancingHorse’s first since the 2015 Singapore Grand Prix, 28 races ago.

Six springtime foods you simply have to taste in Rome

From fresh fruits to Easter cakes, the onset of spring in Rome is a gourmand’sdelight. While tourists tend to pick the same classic pizza or pasta dishes year-roundin Rome, the best flavours can be found by eating with the seasons, and pinpointingthe right foods for the month.

1. Vignarola: Start with vignarola, a typically Roman dish that combines peas, fava beans, lettuce and artichokes.

2. Carciofi alla Romanesca Artichokes are the springtime star of Romanmenus, with plenty of different versions, stuffed, braised or fried

3. Asparagus: Artichokes do, however, have a springtime rival in asparagus, which again is served a multitude of ways - boiled or roasted as a side dish,or added to risottos, pasta or even pizza.

4. Abbacchio: The absolutely typical dish of Roman spring is abbacchio, sucklinglamb. In Rome you can find this served a number of ways; lamb chops, grilled, roasted.

5. Everything strawberry-flavoured: Tiny strawberries will soon beginappearing in Rome, to the delight of sweet-toothed locals and visitors.

6. Colomba: Forget chocolate eggs, in Italy the foodie's dessert of choice isthe colomba. This Easter cake is similar to the Italian Christmasoffering, panettone, but is baked in the shape of a dove or sometimes across. Source: The Local©
