A day in the lif� o� Mari �nd M�x in Wales.

Today Max we’re going to meet very

creative people! OK Mari, what do you mean by

that?

We’re going to visit different craftsmen,

from artists to someone who creates beautiful

jewellery to wear. Hey, that sounds great Mari! Where

shall we start?

We have arrived at the Calon Pottery. I wonder who works

here?

Hello, I’m Gwenda and I work here at the Calon Pottery as a

potter.What does a

potter do Gwenda?

Well, I use clay to create different shapes of pottery. I throw the clay on the wheel and turn and shape it into a cup or bowl shape with my

hands. I will then place it in a kiln to cook, and then after it’s cooled

down I will decorate it with beautiful patterns!

This pottery is very attractive Gwenda, I’m sure that my mother

would like to have a plate or two on our sideboard in our kitchen at home!

Hello Sam, what are you doing?

Hello you two, well. I’m making walking sticks. I’ll be making a sculpture of the stick out of a

straight piece of wood, that’s fallen from the tree, that takes hours to

make with my little sharp knife, and then I’ll be adding a head to it.

How are you Max and Mari? I’m Mandy and I

love felting wool to create decorations and

beautiful jewellery!

What’s feltingMandy?

I’ll be taking coloured wool that hasn’t spun and then pressing it

with a needle tool to pack the wool tight and then shape it into a flower

or sphere, and then add to it to create jewellery.

Great, how are you doing Max? I create all types of things out of slate. Candle

holders, coasters and placemats and wine racks. I

have a lot of pleasure of using things that are created in

Wales!

Hello Bethan, how are you? My friend Max

longs to see what you create with your sewing

kit!

Hello Mari, nice to meet you Max! Well, I make words and images out of

different materials to create personalised cushions. I can make them for important dates, such as the birth of a child. I add the baby’s name, birthday and where they were

born. I then fill the cushion with feathers to make it soft and comfy.

This looks like fun Bethan! Yes, it is Max! I like

adding photos and personal messages

too.

birthday? With a car or a bus on it, since I like travelling so much!
