A day at Procter & Gamble Manufacturing, in Saxony! Swen Günther, 28.06.16 On June 24, 2016, the time had finally come. 7 students from HTW Dresden, WSH Zwickau and TU Dresden took the unique opportunity to visit the manufacturing site of Procter & Gamble (P&G) at Rothenkirchen/ Saxony and to take a look behind the scenes of the worldwide biggest company of consumer goods. At the site, all kinds of hair color prod- ucts for hair dressers and consumers are produced and mainly shipped to the EMEA region (Europe, Near East, Africa). P&G Rothenkirchen employees approx. 350 people with very different nationalities and cultures, e.g. Iraq, Lebanon, Poland and France. As a result of Wella acquisition, the site was acquired by P&G in 2003. Since that time, several millions of Euro have been invested into new technologies and facilities. The site visit was initiated and organized by the responsible Engineering Leader, Dirk Zimmer. Within the IB-Master course “Industrial Process and Project Management (IPPM)“, he gave a comprehensive presentation at HTW Dresden on June 10. The day at P&G Rothenkirchen started at 10 am at the former villa of Franz Ströher, the founder of Wella in the year 1880. After a brief introduction into the “World of P&G Manufacturing”, several young leaders from engi- neering department presented their current projects with focus on Engineering & Automatization. During lunch break, the students were able to talk informally to young leaders and new hires. Actually, the highlight of the day was after midday. We conducted a 2 hour site tour with the opportunity to observe all relevant production and logistic facilities. Most impressive thing to see was the high degree of automation of pro- duction lines. Beside this, we could feel the high professionalism and motivation of all employees. At the end of the day, at 3 pm, students got informed about entry levels and career opportunities at P&G. On June 24, 2016, the time had finally come. 7 students from HTW Dresden, WSH Zwickau and TU Dresden took the

unique opportunity to visit the manufacturing site of Procter & Gamble (P&G) at Rothenkirchen/ Saxony and to take a

look behind the scenes of the worldwide biggest company of consumer goods. At the site, all kinds of hair color prod-

ucts for hair dressers and consumers are produced and mainly shipped to the EMEA region (Europe, Near East, Africa).

P&G Rothenkirchen employees approx. 350 people with very different nationalities and cultures, e.g. Iraq, Lebanon,

Poland and France. As a result of Wella acquisition, the site was acquired by P&G in 2003. Since that time, several

millions of Euro have been invested into new technologies and facilities.

The site visit was initiated and organized by the responsible Engineering Leader, Dirk Zimmer. Within the IB-Master

course “Industrial Process and Project Management (IPPM)“, he gave a comprehensive presentation at HTW Dresden

on June 10. The day at P&G Rothenkirchen started at 10 am at the former villa of Franz Ströher, the founder of Wella

in the year 1880. After a brief introduction into the “World of P&G Manufacturing”, several young leaders from engi-

neering department presented their current projects with focus on Engineering & Automatization. During lunch break,

the students were able to talk informally to young leaders and new hires.

Actually, the highlight of the day was after midday. We conducted a 2 hour site tour with the opportunity to observe

all relevant production and logistic facilities. Most impressive thing to see was the high degree of automation of pro-

duction lines. Beside this, we could feel the high professionalism and motivation of all employees. At the end of the

day, at 3 pm, students got informed about entry levels and career opportunities at P&G.
