Reading Intervention Software for Grades 4–12

Progress Monitoring

Struggling readers need to see progress. Reading is essential to their future success, self-esteem, and motivation.

To allow educators to easily monitor the progress and needs of struggling readers, the Reading Horizons Elevate software uses multiple assessments:

The Phonics Screener determines whether a student has mastered lesson content prior to instruction

The Diagnostic Assessment prescribes each student a customized lesson track

Progress Monitoring Assessments show growth from initial benchmarks

Chapter Tests ensure student mastery of lesson material by adapting instruction to fill gaps

The Reading Library Assessment powered by the Lexile® Framework for Reading tracks students’ Lexile measures

All assessment data is reported in the Administration System.

Differentiated Instruction

The Reading Horizons Elevate software delivers the fundamental reading skills needed for struggling

readers to find success in a way that is deeply differentiated to

target their exact needs and expedite progress.

After the initial Diagnostic Assessment prescribes a targeted lesson track for each student, the software ensures that the student

has mastered all lesson content:

Sixty-eight interactive lessons that teach Reading Horizons research-based method

for decoding words of any length

Basic grammar instruction

Thirteen Most Common Word lessons build rapid recognition of the 300 most

common sight words that comprise over 65% of all written text

Because the software allows students to work independently, they are less resistant and more

open to instruction.

Skill Transfer

Decoding skills are a necessary foundation to successful reading, but they are just a foundation.

To help students transfer decoding skills into fluent reading, exercises and resources are layered into the Reading Horizons Elevate software to build vocabulary, spelling, grammar, fluency, and comprehension skills:

Over 280 Lexile®-leveled reading passages provide low-level reading practice in a range of topics that appeal to older learners

Over 12,000 vocabulary terms are defined, used in context, and displayed with a graphic

Three skill-based games are accessible to students, providing motivating practice opportunities that reinforce skills

Upon completing the Reading Horizons Elevate program, most intervention students gain two to three grade levels in reading.

ELL Enhancements

To simplify the complexity of the English language for ELLs, the

Reading Horizons Elevate software provides a methodical process and concrete rules for students to hold

on to as they learn to read, write, and pronounce the sounds and words in the English language.

ELLs can also access resources that address their specific needs:

The Pronunciation Proficiency Tool uses animations and video to show the

proper tongue and mouth placements for producing each English sound

Students equipped with a microphone can record themselves practicing sounds

and words to compare their pronunciation to the narrator’s

Optional Language Translations allow students to hear lesson summaries and vocabulary terms in their native tongue

(four languages available)

English for Specific Purposes Databases help ELLs develop vocabulary specific to

particular fields of work or areas of interest
