Recently in the our year group, selling chocolate (specifically Freddo's and medium sized Cadbury blocks), has been a popular method of fundraising. It was our aim to determine which chocolates were most popular through our survey, and consequently be able to increase the profits and minimise losses of these sellers.

Aim:

Page 3: A chocolate comparison

We conducted our survey by simply walking up to year 9 girls with a printed questionnaire. We chose to do this method because we found people were much more likely to take time to complete the survey if it was face to face, compared to alternatives such as online surveys. This method effective because everyone we asked did take the time to complete the questionnaire.

How the survey was conducted

From this data it is clear that people prefer plainer types of chocolate; with the majority of the preferences being the plain flavours (milk chocolate with a preference of 32 %, dark chocolate with a preference of 12%, and white chocolate with 10%). Caramello was also immensely popular with 1/5th of all preferences, however all of the other unconventional flavours had less than 10% preference.

Analysis

Results: Do you prefer $1 freddos

(35g) or $2.50 Cadbury blocks (85g)

$1 for a Freddo72%

$2.50 For a Small Block28%

Page 7: A chocolate comparison

There was a significant difference of peoples preferences between the two, with only 28% choosing the small Cadbury blocks, and 72% choosing Freddos. As the survey was being conducted many people justified their choose by stating Freddos are better value, however per dollar a block is 34g and a Freddo is 35g, only a 1g difference. These results also infer that people are more willing to spend money in small amounts.

Analysis

From this survey we were able to conclude that the most popular type of chocolate was milk, and Freddos were preferred over blocks. Consequently if we were to implement these results the most successful box would look like this:
