A BILINGUAL BULLETIN OF BETHEL METHODIST CHURCH
2
Pastoral Letter
Dearly beloved,
Greengs to all of you in the loving name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ!
I thank God for the South India Regional Conference which experienced God’s blessing and extended another year to me to serve in BMC. Connue to pray for our Conference and all our Churches. Pray for our Episcopal leaders Bishop Dr. Taranath Sagar and Mrs. Padma Sagar and for our Rev. Hosea Mathew, the District Superintendent of Bangalore. Praise God for the successful sur-gery of Venkatesh in the Manipal Hospital. The family is thankful to God and to the donors from our Church. I praise God for a good Mission Sunday ser-vice. Thanks to Bro. Gladstone from World Vision ministries and the Mission and Evangelism team led by Bro. Atheejoe.
I congratulate all the new office bearers of our Pastorate CommiAee/Conference and Sub-commiAees for the year 2012-13 and wish God’s bless-ings upon you. You will see God awarding His rich blessings if you are serious about your responsibilies in the Church. Therefore, I encourage you to par-cipate in Church acvies with utmost priority.
Jesus is the Lord of all. We need to take me to study deeply about his deity to avoid wrong understanding. Bible teaches that God is not many but one. He is triune – the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Nothing apart from this is God. Those who do not understand this, waste their me and energy on things that do not exist and later realize the truth.
This month, I would request you to meditate more on the Son of God who is the second Person in God-head. Jesus, the son is the simplest form of true revelaon of God. He is the visible and reveal-able form of the invisible God. The historians (sincere ones) point to the fact that the concept of avatars (incarnaon) in all religions trace their roots to the avatar of Jesus Christ, who incarnated in this world 2000 years ago and divided the history in to AD and BC. No man coined and gave Him His name. The name Jesus was given by an-gel to Mary, which means, “He will save the people from Sin.” (MaA.1:21). He is the Saviour of the world – saving people from the consequence of sin and sickness. He died on behalf of all the sinners, took their punishment upon himself and thus resolved the problem of sin in the world. He rose again from the dead on the third day and lives today. He wants to come and live in the hearts of everyone who would call him in. Man is not God. But man can re-ceive God. This is what Bible teaches. Jesus is the one window soluon for our troubles. He alone can fulfills anyone’s hope. He is the only mediator between God and man who connects us to God. Everything we require of God is availa-ble in Him and through Him.
Over the centuries, people tried to understand Jesus outside the Bible scrip-tures and ended up in confusion. They debated over His human and divine natures, complicated it and ended up as cults and herecs. But thank God, He raised leaders who gathered world councils and discussed all the maAers. They seAled the issues and framed the Creeds - facts of God in simple words - which we read in the worship services today. If you hear someone speaking

different gospels, avoid it. Check it with the foundaonal truth of the triune God and find the difference.
Finally, the thing that we need to take to our heart about Jesus is that He is full of grace and truth. When you feel all in the world has come to an end, in Jesus you can sll hear, “there is much more blessing waing for you.” When you get confused by all theories, you can begin with Jesus and find the ul-mate truth unfolding and converging in Him.
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory,
the glory as of the only bego,en of the Father, full of grace and truth. John
1:14

Missionary Profile - Mrs. Edith Sundar
Dr. Paul Brand - The Lepers’ Lifesaver
Jessie Brand and Evelyn Brand were the pio-
neer missionaries to Kolli Hills in Tamil Na-
du. They were blessed with their first child
on July 8th, 1914 and they named him Paul
Brand. Paul grew up watching his dad and
mom teach various things to the people of
Kolli hills. As his parents were the pioneer
missionaries they often had to play the role
of a doctor, carpenter, judge, etc. and this
kept them very busy. Paul was often left in their wooden house to take
care of his younger sister. As a young boy, Paul witnessed his parents
preaching the gospel to the people there.
At the age of 9, he was sent to London for further education. He stayed
there under the care of his mother’s sister. At the age of 15, he lost his
father. Brand completed his studies in medicine and further became an
orthopedic surgeon. Dr. Paul Brand married Dr. Margaret who was also
a surgeon. Etched in his memory were scenes of his parents with the
people of Kolli hills. Ready for the challenges ahead, Dr. Paul Brand
along with his wife Dr. Margaret returned to India in 1946. He joined
the Christian Medical College and Hospital in Vellore as a professor of
Orthopedics. A visit to the Leprosy Sanatorium at Chengalpet moved
Dr. Brand greatly and he wanted to do something for those people. Doc-
tors Paul and Margaret brand began to research on it and proved that
leper’s malformations were tied to their loss of ability to feel
pain. They developed new medical techniques that allowed lepers to
function in society in spite of their handicaps. Initially, many were not
comfortable with the idea of sharing hospital space and giving medical
treatment to the leprosy patients. However, in the late 1940s, Paul be-
came the first surgeon in the world to use reconstructive surgery to cor-
rect the deformities of leprosy in the hands and feet. In 1953, he joined
the Leprosy Mission in Karigiri. His wife, Dr. Margaret did pioneering
research in Opthalmology with regard to leprosy patients. From his ex-
perience of working with the leprosy patients, Paul wrote: “God de-
signed the human body so that it is able to survive because of pain”.
In 1966, after 19 years of ministry in India, he moved to USA accepting
a position at the U.S. Public Health Service's National Hansen's Disease
Center in Carville, Louisiana. After retiring from the U.S Public Health
Service, he taught at the University of Washington and also served as

We also had a chance to visit their houses. We were really moved by the
lives they live, we could also observe few drunkard husbands fighng with their wives.
So we found that there are so much need to tell about our loving God to the Irulas.
Inspite of our long journey we had the happiness of vising them. I personally felt that
God has blessed us enough and more. So its our responsibility to be a blessing to his
people who are in need.
Teens fellowship - Ms. Tabitha Das
“Out of all creatures only humans can worship, pray, fast, meditate and plan.
This great giN of thinking power sets him apart which is the creaon of our God”. I
would like to greet each and every one in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus
Christ.
It gives me a great pleasure to tell about the Teens Fellowship. This fellow-
ship has personally encouraged me to interacvely explore God’s word and build a
healthy relaonship. These sessions have taught me how religion and science go to-
gether, how to manage our spare me with God and many more and clears our
doubts in the word of God. Each me I get to know more about the Lord, my
faith in him increases. On the whole, we enjoy and engage in fruiOul acvies
aimed at strengthening our walk with God.

the president of the London-based Leprosy Mission International. Dr.
Paul Brand received several awards and acknowledgements for his out-
standing work. He was a gifted speaker and has authored and co-
authored many books. The popular books that he co-authored with Phil-
ip Yancey are Fearfully and wonderfully made, In His Image and Pain-
the gift nobody wants. When asked about Dr. Brand, Yancey said "My
father died just after my first birthday, and in so many ways Dr. Brand
became a father figure to me in the best way. I have never known any-
one more brilliant, nor anyone more humble.”
On the 8th of July 2003, Dr. Paul Brand went to be with the Lord. His
family is now part of this legacy and his ministry still continues in India
Bible Puzzle - Identify books of the Bible
(Contributed by Mrs. Kamalashree David)
Here is a paragraph which contains 25 names of
books of the Bible. Try to find it out… (One is done
for you in bold letters). Can you find the names of 25 books of the Bible in this paragraph? This is a most remarkable puzzle. Some-one found it in the seat pocket on a flight from Los An-geles to Honolulu, keeping himself occupied for hours. One man from Illinois worked on this while fishing from his john boat. Roy Clark studied it while playing his banjo. Elaine Victs mentioned it in her column once. One woman judges the job to be so involving, she brews a cup of tea to help calm her nerves. There will be some names that are really easy to spot . . . that’s a fact. Some people will soon find themselves in a jam, especially since the book names are not necessarily capitalized. The truth is, from answers we get, we are forced to admit it usually takes a minister or scholar to see some of them at the worst. Something in our genes is responsible for the difficulty we have. Those able to find all of them will hear great lamentations from those who have to be shown. One revelation may help, books like! Timothy and Samuel may occur without their num-bers. And punctuation or spaces in the middle are normal. A chipper attitude will help you compete. Remember, there are 25 books of the Bible lurking somewhere in this paragraph. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13. ( Refer page 11 for answer)

HALF A DAY WITH THE IRULAS HALF A DAY WITH THE IRULAS HALF A DAY WITH THE IRULAS HALF A DAY WITH THE IRULAS - Mrs. Ajji Alan
Irulas are a tribal community living in different parts of India. One of their
habitats is in the Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu. They derive their name, which liter-
ally signifies "People of the darkness".They earn their living by doing `coolie' work. The
problem of these people is that, only some get money while the remaining just get
some rice or other things in kind as a payment for their labor. Their economic hard-
ships are also due to the fact that the society at large has been neglecng them over
the years. They are totally ignorant about the happenings in the external world to the
extent that they don't even know the benefits that they are eligible to receive as a
Schedule Tribe. This state of affair is the result of their illiteracy. Taking advantage of
this, the landlords cheat these people into signing the land granted to them by the
government against paltry loans given to them by the landlords. As a result they have
lost whatever assets they have possessed.
Our team led by Mr.Atheejoe, started our two hour drive on June 30th
by
two in the aNernoon from bangalore towards Doddendagalli, situated in the outskirts
of Hosur. We were accompanied by Mr. Robert, Mrs. Shanthini Robert(Parents of
Atheejoe), Mr Peter, Mrs Sudha Peter, Mr. Paul Ganesh and Mr. Franklin. In the midst
of the hot sun and the huge traffic, we were excited about our first trip. On the way,
We had an oppourtunity to spend few minutes in the IEM missionary 's house where
we could hear his experience at the field work. We praise and thank God for his heal-
ing and we believe in faith that he will be healed completely before we meet him the
next month.
We along with the missionary, Mr.Mahendran we went to the church in
Doddendagalli, where nearly 40 children were gathered. A teacher appointed by the
IEM from the same place, Mrs.Antony amma was dedicated enough in teaching those
children. We were really happy on seeing the children geSng educated. They were
enthusiasc in playing games, singing songs, and praying with us. Mr. Peter narrated
to them the “story of the leper” conveying the message that only Jesus can wash our
sins and make us holy. Then aunty, Mrs. Shanthini Robert taught them a prayer song
meaning that our enre body is dedicated to do the work of God.
Few issues were discussed regarding the upliNment of the Irulas.
• We heard from the teacher that it would be beAer if she teaches the children
using visual aids, So she expressed the need of a television. If there are any other
aids which you feel will be beAer you can come forth with your ideas.
• We noced a girl studying 10th
std who has a threat of child marriage. We need to
give them the awareness of higher educaon.
• We heard from an old mother crying that her son is not taking care of her.
• We need to teach them clean habits.
• We found a mother having many children, mal nutrioned. We can also teach
them how to take care of children.
• We noced that the ladies are open to hear the gospel but not their husbands,
we need to pray for their salvaon.
• Heard from the missionary that many children are not going to school, need to
give them the awareness of educaon.
If any of you have any other suggesons you can convey it to Mr. Atheejoe

Pray for All the Churches:
• •Pray for all the Churches, Missions & its leaders – remembering what Paul said in Phil 1: 15-18 “It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rival-ry, but others out of goodwill. The latter do so out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. The former preach Christ out of self-ish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains. But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And be-cause of this I rejoice.”
