NORFOLK ISLAND CENTRAL SCHOOL
Volume No. 50 Week 8(B) 9th September 2019 Principal’s Report
Reading is my Super Power Last week we celebrated the joys of reading as part of Book Week. Our theme this year was ‘Reading is my Super Power’. Students and staff dressed up as characters from books, K-6 students danced the evening away at the SRC disco on Tuesday, and we ran in-class activities to share what we love about reading. I’d like to thank Sarah Jenkins for her organisation of the book parade. It was also great to see our colleagues from Banyan Park be a part of this event. A special shout out to Emma Cullen and her team at Banyan for the fabulous work they do in acknowledgement of Early Childhood Educators Day on Wednesday this week. And to our parents…we love the effort and support you provide behind the scenes. It was also heartening to see the smiles on your faces as our students paraded their fantastic costumes. Tell Them From Me – Partners in Learning Survey Every year we invite parents to give us valued feedback about the school and the quality of our service delivery. The ‘Tell Them From Me’ survey window is currently open between now and the end of the term. Our ‘Partners in Learning Survey’ can be accessed at: http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/nicsparents Parents will have access to additional information via letters home, email and Facebook. Further information can be found at: https://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/ School Captains I had the pleasure last week of interviewing our candidates from Year 11 vying for our senior leadership positions for 2020. It is so encouraging to see such wonderful young people bringing to the table such deep and authentic qualities. My mantra is ‘Aspire to Inspire’. I’d like to say thanks for me to all our candidates for their passion and connectedness to the school and their peers, as their interviews this week were nothing short of inspirational. I wish all our candidates well with their speeches at Tuesday’s assembly next week. School Photos School photos will be next week (weather permitted) kicking off with Kindergarten at 9:15am on Monday morning. Hopefully we will have a good weather window across the weekend for full school uniform. Lawn Bowls Tracey Wora, Maycee Deszecsar and Ellie Dixon have returned after representing the NSW North Coast Region at CHS Lawn Bowls. They put on a master class despite the unfamiliar fast greens presenting difficult conditions at times. The team were recognised by officials for their sportspersonship and excellent representation of Norfolk Island. Hat tips go to Ellie Dixon for being awarded North Coast region’s Most Valuable player; an exceptional achievement as a 14 year old competing against Australian Champions in the Opens Division. As always, we are very proud of your collective advocacy for the school, the sport of bowls and for Norfolk Island.
P&C Meeting Thank you to those who attended our meeting on Wednesday evening. At our meeting we talked about future projects and grants the P&C are working towards. The school is currently working on a plan to upgrade one of the school buses with accumulated funds from the school’s 2018-2020 budget, the sale of one of our buses and a partnership P&C grant.
This is part of a long-term, sustainable bus provision strategy. If you would like to know more about our future projects, and be part of the planning process to support student learning through our P&C partnership, come to our next meeting on Wednesday, October 16 (Term 4 – Week 1). Things coming up Term 3 - Week 8: School Photos – Today 9th September School Captain Speeches – Tuesday 10th September. Year 6 Tour Commences – Friday 13th September. Regards, Brett Carr
