Presented by the Department of Anesthesiology And Division of Cardiac Surgery Toronto General Hospital University Health Network Saturday, November 5, 2011 Sunday, November 6, 2011 Sponsored by University of Toronto Office of Continuing Education OBJECTIVES This 2-day symposium is designed to benefit practicing anesthesiologists, intensivists, cardiac surgeons and cardiologists involved in the perioperative management of surgical patients. The program this year will focus on the diagnosis and management of patients with valvular heart disease, TEE in the cath lab and ICU and TEE simulation education. Participation in the program will enable the attendee to: 1. Describe the role of 2D transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography in the preoperative and intraoperative assessment of cardiac valves. 2. Acquire knowledge about 3D TEE models for mitral and aortic valve pathology. 3. Acquire knowledge of role of simulators for training in echocardiography. 4. Obtain practical experience in 2D transthoracic and ultrasound techniques or 3D echocardiography and manipulation of datasets. The participants will have the opportunity to learn through lectures, discussion panels, audience response system and workshops.
