FACULTY OF TECHNOLOGY School of Computer Science and Informatics Marie Sklodowska-Curie ITN Early Stage Researcher Full Time, Fixed Term Contract for 36 months Grade RESEARCH FELLOW: £28,000 - £31,500 (subject to exchange rate and dependant on circumstances as defined by funding body rules; see: http://ec.europa.eu/research/participants/data/ref/h2020/wp/2014_2 015/main/h2020-wp1415-msca_en.pdf) The School of Computer Science and Informatics, Faculty of Technology, is looking for a self-motivated Early Career Researcher (ESR) to undertake research and development on active ageing and assisted living within the EU H2020 Marie Sklodowska-Curie ITN ACROSSING project (http://www.a crossing-it n.eu). The ACROSSING training network aims to develop advanced technologies and platforms for smarter assisted living by combining research expertise and capabilities of 10 partners from 6 European countries, including research institutes, univ ersities and SMEs. In total 15 ESRs will b e recruited and each of them will conduct research on a specific but closely related research area. This ESR at De Montfort University will be responsible for developing novel approaches, architectures, technologies and tools to enable and support privacy-preserving, standard based wellness and activity data modelling and management within smart environments. In addition to this, the ESR will also contribute to network- level research activities, technology and system integration, deliverables, event organisation and public engagement for dissemination and impact. The ESR will be required to undertake PhD studies and must fulfil the requirement s of the university’s doctoral training programme. They will have opportunities to visit other network partners for secondments, and attend the research and tra ining events of the network. All costs will be fully fund ed (100% employment) by the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions programme which also offers highly competitive and attractive salary and working conditions. Applicants have to ensure compliance with the Marie-Curie mobility requirement: at the time of recruitment, you must not have lived in the UK for more than 12 out of the pa st 36 mont hs. Short stays, such as holi days, are not taken i nto account. Duties of the role

Overall purposeof the role

The Early Stage Researchers (ESR) will be responsible for developing novel approaches,architectures, technologies and tools to enable and support wellbeing and activity datamodelling, activity recognition and behavioural analysis. The research will be undertaken inthe application context of assisted living within the EU Horizon 2020 Marie Sklodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network ACROSSING project.

 ACROSSING aims to develop advanced technologies and platforms for smarter assistedliving by combining research expertise and capabilities of 10 partners from 6 Europeancountries, including research institutes, universities and SMEs. In total 15 ESRs will berecruited and each of them will conduct research on a specific but closely related researcharea.

The ESR will undertake research in a well-defined individual research project – refer to theindividual project descriptions in the ACROSSING website, http://www.acrossing-itn.eu/?q=node/73 and also the recruitment website. In addition to this, The ESR willcontribute to network-level research activities, technology and system integration,deliverables, event organisation and public engagement for dissemination and impact.

Main duties andresponsibilities•

  Conduct research on wellbeing and activity data modelling, activity recognition andbehavioural analysis.

•  Develop and evaluate technologies and tools in real world application scenarios.

•  Be capable of research planning and taking initiative, e.g. given a particularhypothesis to examine, able to plan, design, conduct own research, incorporatingissues such as the availability of resources, deadlines, project milestones and overallresearch aims.

•  Continuously monitor and check research results and progress. The unpredictability ofresearch means that daily planning needs to accommodate new developments.

•  Interact and closely collaborate with other ESRs in the network fully contributing to the

team effort.•  Be actively engaged in the collaborative research activities and technology integration

in the network.

•  Coordinate with other members of the network or group to ensure objectives are metand laboratory time is used efficiently.

•  Attend training and public engagement events and meetings of the network.

•  Disseminate research findings at conferences and journals.

•  Present research results to the public and industry to maximise impact.

•  Plan several months in advance to meet deadlines for journal publications and to

prepare presentations and papers for collaboration meetings and conferences.•  Write supporting documents to contribute to and support the work of the network and

also the hosting research group, e.g. progress reports, interim reports and grantapplications.

•  Carry out administrative roles as required, e.g. assisting organising events, liaisingwith researchers, acting as secretary to research group meetings, etc.

•  Maintain a systematic record of activities, timesheets and scientific outcomes.

•  Analyse and record data to aid future research.

•  Any other duties, commensurate with the grade of the post
