Dear Parents,
OPEN NIGHT
On Wednesday 15 August we will be opening our doors to all parents and grandparents so that you
can visit classrooms and hear all about the learning journey that your child has been on so far this
year.
At 3:45pm I will be hosting a meeting for all parents to provide general information before
introducing Jan Loftus who will provide key information to support you in your use of CONNECT.
Classrooms will be open from 4:30—5:30 pm. My staff and I look forward to welcoming you on the
night.
CONNECT
At the start of our open night, I am inviting parents to come and meet with Jan Loftus, Principal
Project Officer for CONNECT, central office. Jan welcomed your feedback from the survey last term
and it has been used to inform further developments by the central office team. She will be providing
updated information on the use of CONNECT and can step you through the password and log on
process in a user friendly way. You’ll be able to ask questions and check the ease of using your
mobile device while Jan is here.
NEW BOUNDARIES FOR COMET BAY COLLEGE
I have been advised that adjustments have been made to the local intake boundaries for Comet Bay
College. It is worth noting that the southern boundary cut off is on a line with Karunjie Road which is
north of Crystaluna Drive and Blue Fin Drive.
I have included a map with the new boundaries in the year 6 enrolment packs for you.
NAIDOC WEEK
Our NAIDOC Awards were held last weekend in Sydney and included winners from across Australia.
On the night there was a particularly touching and inspirational speech delivered by Dr June Oscar
AO, recipient of the prestigious Person of the Year 2018 award. Additionally, there was an especially
engaging and humbling speech by Patricia Anderson AO, recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award
2018.
Dr June Oscar descends from a strong line of Bunuba women and is from Western Australia. June
grew up in the Central Kimberley region of WA and is the first woman to hold the position of
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner at the Australian Human Rights
Commission.
Notably, all speakers talked of the importance of education in the lives of our young people.
Golden Bay Primary School staff congratulate the worthy recipients.

2019 Golden Bay Primary School Enrolments
Enrolments are now being accepted for
2019. If you know you are moving into the
area please place your enrolment for
2019 now. All kindergarten students who
are local in the area will automatically be
rolled over in to Pre-primary for 2019. All
current Kindergarten students residing
outside of the Golden Bay zone will need
to enrol at their local primary school.
VERY IMPORTANT
Kindergarten Playground
The Kindergarten—Pre-primary playground
equipment is designed and suitable only for
children of Kindergarten age through to year 1.
The equipment requires motor skills that most
toddlers are not fully equipped to manage.
In the interest of continued safety, I ask that
children not yet attending school do not play on the
equipment as injury may occur causing upset to the
child and you as a parent.
Thank you for your support with this matter.
Appreciated.
