It is a great thing that Murrumburrah High School has been recognised as a lighthouse school – congratulations must go to the staff, students and school community for the effort that has been put into the program over the years. Well done.
HSC Study Days Last week our Year 12 students travelled to Dubbo to participate in two intensive days of workshops as part of the Western Higher School Certificate Enrichment Seminars. These seminars provide students with the opportunity to supplement and enhance current HSC preparation. Students responded favourably to the stimulating sessions they attended, with all subjects being covered. The workshops covered all aspects of the HSC syllabus. We hope that the skills and knowledge that you gain from these seminars proves valuable in the Higher School Certificate Examination. Special thanks to Lauren Masson and Marg Knight-Gregson who accompanied the students on the trip.

Country Education Foundation University Experience
Last week five Year 10 students from MHS were lucky enough to participate in the Sydney University Experience sponsored by the Harden District Education Foundation which is affiliated with the Country Education Foundation.
Jane Fitzgerald, Ellie Raptis, Megan Sharman, Rhianna Johnson and Chloe Pethers flew to Sydney to experience what studying at university actually entails. Two universities, Macquarie University and the Australian Catholic University were visited. Students had the opportunity to participate in practical workshops, lectures, toured university faculties and reviewed the options in student accommodation available.
While in Sydney our students also visited the Powerhouse Museum, sailed on Sydney Harbour and participated in some retail therapy.
Thanks must go to Adrienne Beck who accompanied the students to Sydney – in her words “the student’s behaviour and conduct was exemplary, with many of them now keen to pursue further education at the conclusion of their schooling at MHS”. Sport Update Last week Emma James played in the Riverina Touch Football team at the State Championships held in Inverell. I’m sure you join me in wishing Will Manwaring and Jared Prosser all the best when they travel to Coffs Harbour next week for the Boys State Championships.
This Friday nine students will compete in the Riverina Cross Country event which is being held in Gundagai. Good luck to Sharna Allen, Abbey Wade, Jesse Manwaring, Tara McGrath-West, Lui Polimeni, Emma Manwaring, Dylan Arabin, Will Manwaring and Tyler Allen. Merit Assembly The Term 2 Merit Assembly will be held on Tuesday 23 June in the school hall commencing at 10.30am. All members of the school community are invited to join us.

Do you have a video camera?
The CAPA department are looking for someone who has a video camera that is of high quality and has a connection to put videos on the computer so they can be edited. The camera is required for the CAPA evening which will be held during week 3 of next term. If needed we would organise one our students to do the filming on the night.
Sporting Representatives
Jared Prosser recently played in the CHS State Rugby League Carnival at Myuna in the President’s X111 team. They played three 50 minutes games over three days. There games were against Southern Region, Sydney Red and Western Region. Although not winning any of their games, they were very competitive, with the biggest loss by 10 points. Three players from this team were selected in the NSW State team. Well done Jared and team.
Last week Emma James was in the Riverina team that played in the CHS touch championships at Inverell. They played nine games over three days against some very strong teams. Riverina finished 5th overall, out of 11 teams, a very commendable effort. The eventual winners of the carnival were Sydney North who have been undefeated for years. Riverina managed to hold them to a 4—0 loss, which was a great effort given other results against this team. Emma played most of the games on the wing and was very happy with how she played, scoring 5 tries throughout the tournament. Next week Will Manwaring and Jared Prosser will travel to Coffs Harbour for the CHS State touch carnival. We wish them and their Riverina team mates all the best.

Learning the Shearing Trade Five MHS students had the opportunity to get a taste of shearing when then took part in the week long Australian Wool Innovations Novice School. Jared Prosser, Josh Barker, Will Manwaring, Josh Manwaring and Tom Foster enjoyed the opportunity to get some hands on learning in this demanding and technical vocation. The Harden District Education Foundation assisted with the costs of running the school, and we thank them for their support. Thanks also to local shearer, Doug Baker, for organising the school.
Year 11/12 Drama Excursion Being the smallest high school in NSW, we were so lucky to have the rare experience of a day-trip to the great city of Sydney! Our adventure begun at the very early hour of 2am, by catching the train at Harden Station – when we arrived at Central, we then walked to Surry Hills where a delicious, exquisite breakfast had commenced in a small café. After breakfast we then walked to Belvoir Street Theatre, where we were extremely lucky to examine archives and plays such as Neighbourhood Watch, Stolen and The Laramie Project. After a good few hours there, we passed through Chinatown, collecting the most delightful custard puffs along the way, playing on the equipment in Darling Harbour, having a ten minute make-up challenge in Pitt Street Mall and landing ourselves at Circular Quay. We had a different yet enjoyable dinner at The Rocks, ordering various meals before we ventured into Darling Harbour to watch the seventh superb light show Vivid. Everyone was exhausted by the time we made our way back to Central, boarded the train to return home at 2am – a big thanks to Miss Luke for organising the excursion and the Drama alumni helpers.
