In student leadership this month we donated money to the Crop Walk

that Kenny Broge’s sister Megan helped with to fight off hunger. We

also are doing a canned food drive as a part of our battle of the grades.

We currently have 563 cans that will go to the Lena Food Pantry. Lastly

we have been selling ribbons for Parker Magee who has been diag-

    nosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. All

the money we raise will go to the

    Ronald McDonald House in Madison,

    Wisconsin.

There are many reasons why I would love to be a part of Student Leadership for the 2013-2014 school year. When I heard about this group in Elementary School I was excited to possibly have the opportunity to be a part of it. I would love to be involved in a group that helps the school and community, and I would love to help out the less fortunate.

In Elementary School I was involved in several community service situations. For example, Character Counts Award, Wee Deliver, 5th Grade Choir, PTO Fundraiser, and in fourth grade I was cho-sen to help Mrs. Hastings in the library. But, what I’m most proud of is when I wrote a thank you letter last year to Hospice thanking them for all of the wonderful care they showed towards my great grand-ma before she passed away. My letter is now hanging on the wall at the Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon, Illinois.

Some of the ideas I have to help the community and school are, Donate clothes to charity, organize a food drive for the local food pantry, donate winter coats to children in need, have bullying presentations for the younger children in the Elementary School, and decorate at Junior High dances.

Finally, my grades and good behavior would allow me the time to serve in Student Leadership. For example, I get my work done on time and make sure it is turned in neatly. I make sure I am re-spectful and caring to teachers and other students. Thank you for considering me for Student Leader-ship.

    Sincerely,

    Kaidyn Sargent

Hello! My name is Ella Brunner. I am interested in participating in Student Leadership, because of the following: I want to help make our community a better place, stop bullying, and help other classmates achieve goals.

Some of the goals I achieved in elementary school are, I had perfect attendance, I was the lead-er in Wee Deliver, and I worked hard to do the best in both of those. I hope I can make my other goals happen. I also played in sports.

The sports I play are softball, I love to catch and pitch! I also play basketball, and volleyball. Last year I threw discus and shot-put in track. One of my favorite classes is Chorus; I hope I can some-day be a singer.

Some of my summer activities are babysitting my two cousins, and doing the paper route each Wednesday. Last year I was invited to The Young Leaders Seminar. Unfortunately I was not able to go.

Last year I was on the honor roll, and my grades are mostly A’s with a few B’s.

    Thank you,

    Elizabeth Brunner

  • I would like to be a member student leadership for the 2013-2014 school year. I have been a mem-

ber of student leadership in the past and feel it is a good group to belong to. I am a good student

and try to be the best friend I can. I try to buddy-up to those around me that seem to be without a

friend. I do not like bullying and step in when needed to stop kids from hurting others’ feelings. I also

try to be a good leader in the classroom. I was actually voted student of the month last year. I do

not talk out of turn and try my best to keep my fellow students quiet so the teacher can do his/her

job. I get good grades and always do my homework.

I enjoyed going to the soup kitchen last year. It was a lot of work but it was rewarding to see all of

those people being fed. I think we should have more canned food wars this year to help our local

food pantry. It is sad to know there are so many hungry people out there, even in our small town.

I believe that I would be a good student leader because I enjoy helping raise money in support of

needy causes. Last year I helped our team raise over $1000 for the Polar Plunge which provides

funds for Special Olympics. We have students in our own district that benefit from this organization

which makes it feel even more right. I would like to sell polar bear cookies, again, to help raise mon-

ey for this cause. I would even like to see if the elementary and high school would join our cause.

Maybe we could even recruit more “plungers” to go along.

I also participated in the Buddy Walk where our team raised nearly $4000 for Down Syndrome

Awareness. It is over a mile walk and we do it every year in honor of my late Uncle Dennis for his

son Callen, who has Down Syndrome. We had the biggest team again this year with over 119 walk-

ers. It is neat to see us all spread out over the trail knowing we all were there to support family. We

had matching colored shirts again. We looked cool in our black and gold! I would like to do a puppy

chow sale to help raise money for GiGis playhouse which is a place for families with Down Syndrome

children to go get help. I would love for my cousin Callen and Landen Raab to be able to take money

    to their play houses!

Finally, I think I should be on student leadership because I have been on it in the past, I enjoy helping

people and I like volunteering. I would like to continue doing fundraisers to help special causes.

These are all the reasons why I want to be on student leadership. Thank you.
