Bacteriophages are employed as agents for recognition and identification of molecules and cellular materials, using their ability to recognize their bacterial host, by coating them with anti- bodies or by selecting them to perform in a man- ner analogous to antibodies. Visibility for identification is effected by incorporating a fluorescent agent, a radioisotope, a metal, an en- zyme, or other staining material, The method of this invention may be utilized in selected clinical procedures, and is adaptable to use in an assay kit,

A method comprising (a) applying a sample to at least two application areas on an electrophoretic gel; (b) electrophoresing the gel; (c) aligning a template onto the electrophoresed gel, the tem- plate having a template slot corresponding to each electrophoresed area; (d) applying a com- position capable of fixing proteins in situ to at least one template slot and applying an antisera capable of reacting with one protein to at least one of the remaining template slots; (e) in- cubating the resultant product of step (d); (f} removing the template from the incubated, elec- trophoresed gel; (g) washing the incubated dec- trophoresed gel of step (f); (h) drying the washed gel of step (g); (i) staining the dryed get of step (h); (j) destaining the stained gel of step (i); (k) drying the destained gel of step (j); and (1) analy- zing the dryed gel of step (k).

Molecular film supported from a fibrin network in solid phase formed at the surface of a support, more particularly at the surface of cups of a microplate. Said film is intended to all applica- tions which implement the capacity of selective fixing of tissular activators of the plasminogene. optionally of the plasminogene itself, par- ticularly to their respective quantitative dosings and to the detection of monoclonal antibodies specific of said tissular activators and of the plas- minogene.

Apparatus for determining the amount of bio- logical material in a fluid medium, typically the concentration of bacteria in a fermentation chamber, has a test cell (a. b) through which medium can be passed with bacteria (a) or after bacteria have been removed by filtration (b). In the test cell a vibratory element is excited to a resonant frequency indicative of density' and a comparison of medium density and medium plus bacteria density reveals the bacteria concentra- tion.

A method of investigating the condition of bio- logical particles, in particular the fraction of viable cells in a bacteria population involves ap- plying a voltage and monitoring tile voltage in- duced by magnetic induction in a detector coil. The applied voltage is of a variable frequency al- ternating'voltage and is preferably induced in the medium through a drive coil.
