Renderoc S
Polymer Modified Structural Grade Repair
Mortar
Uses
Renderoc S is suitable for hand application to repairs
where significant load bearing is required, typical
applications would include;
Vertical and overhead repairs
Patch repairs to concrete floor slabs
Patch repairs to stairs, steps and other areas subject
to repeated, heavy trafficking
Arris repairs to joint edges
General structural repairs where formwork cannot
easily be erected.
Advantages
Structural patch repair
High tensile and flexural strengths
Anti-carbonation
Anti-chloride
Low water permeability
Standards Compliance
Renderoc S has been tested with appropriate sections of:
BS 1881, BS 5075, BS 4550, ASTM C67, BS 4551BS
6319
Description
Renderoc S is a pre-packaged, single component
structural repair material, which needs only the addition ofwater on site.
Renderoc S's low permeability property provides optimum
protection to steel reinforcement from chloride attack. The
Renderoc S formulation plus Nitobond AR primer ensure
intimate contact with parent concrete. Its shrinkage
compensated property enables it to be used for large and
small area applications.

Specification Clauses
Steel reinforcement primer
The steel reinforcement primer shall be Nitoprime
Zincrich, a single component zinc-rich epoxy resin. The
primer shall be an "active" type, capable of avoiding the
generation of incipient anodes in immediately adjacent
locations. It shall be fully compatible with the Renderoc
system of concrete repair.
Bonding agent/primer for concrete
Concrete surface must be cleaned, free of loose particles,
etc. prior to application of Nitobond AR, an acrylic
emulsion bonding agent.
Nitobond AR is scrubbed onto the pre-wetted surface of
the concrete and it will dry in approximately one hour.
(depending on temperature and substrate porosity). For
detail application, please refer to a separate data sheet on
Nitobond AR
Repair mortar
The polymer modified reinstatement mortar shall be
Renderoc S, a single component cement-based blend of
powder to which only the site-addition of clean water shallbe permitted. The cured mortar shall achieve a
compressive strength of 50 N/mm2, a flexural strength of 9
N/mm2and a tensile strength of 3 N/mm
2at 28 days.
Application Instructions
Surface preparation
Successful repairs to concrete depend totally on correct
surface preparation. Particular care should be taken to
ensure all surfaces are completely free of laitance, oil,
dust, grease, plaster, paint, corrosion and any other
deleterious substances. Laitance should be mechanically
removed by high pressure water blasting, grit blasting or a
combination of both. Oil and grease deposits should be
removed by steam cleaning, detergent scrubbing or the
use of the proprietary degreaser such as Fosroc Chemical
Degreaser. Smooth surfaces should be mechanically
roughened by scabbling or needle gun to form a good
mechanical key. All reinforcing steel must be grit blasted
to a profile of SA 2 prior to the application of the
recommended primer. Edges of the areas for repair must
be saw cut to 5mm depth
Priming
All surfaces must be primed prior to repair. Reinforcing
steel must be primed with Nitoprime Zincrich an active
zinc/epoxy system which will prevent further corrosion. All
concrete surfaces should be thoroughly soaked but
leaving no surface water.
Concrete must be primed with Nitobond AR. Nitobond AR
is an acrylic emulsion which is scrubbed onto the surface
of the concrete. It will dry in approximately one hour
(depending on the temperature and substrate porosity).
Renderoc S should be applied when the Nitobond AR is
still tacky but may be applied up to 8 hours later. If the
Nitobond AR is too wet, build up may be reduced due to
slippage in vertical situations.
Mixing
Care should be taken to ensure that Renderoc S is
thoroughly mixed prior to use. Small quantities of
Renderoc S (up to 10 kg) may be hand mixed in a bucket.
It is essential that quantities of one bag or more are mixed
in a forced action pan mixer or with a slow speed drill (500
rpm) fitted with a spiral paddle (Polypan No. 707) are not
suitable. For normal applications 2.5 - 3.0 litres of watershould be added. This will yield approximately 12 litres of
Renderoc S.
Application
For application to all surfaces Fosroc recommended that
Renderoc S be applied with a wood float to ensure
positive contact with the primed substrate. Initial
application should be with tamping or compacting action
rather than a floating action. Finishing can be wood float,
steel trowel or sponge depending which type of finish is
required. The wood float will leave a surface suitable forthe application of Renderoc FC. Depending on the nature
and position of the repair it may be necessary to build up
Renderoc S in a number of layers.
The minimum layer thickness of Renderoc S is 5mm and it
can be built up to 20mm - 25mm on vertical surfaces. This
can be achieved either by the "wet-on-wet" technique
where each layer is fused to the previous one immediately

or by allowing initial set to take place (3-4 hrs) and then
applying the next layer onto the previously scored and
primed surface. If sagging occurs at any time due to
excessive build up of Renderoc S, the material should be
completely removed and reapplied in thinner layers. Where
a high build is required in an overhead or vertical situation
the associated product Renderoc HB should be considered.
Curing
Renderoc S is a cementitous repair mortar. It is common
with all cementitous materials, Renderoc S must be cured
immediately after finishing in accordance with good
concrete practice. When overcoating with Nitocote
Dekguard the use of Nitobond AR sprayed onto the surface
as a continuous film is recommended. In harsh drying
condition supplementary curing such as wet hessian or
polythene must be used.
Cleaning
Renderoc S should be removed from tools with clean water
immediately after use. Cured material can only be removed
mechanically.
Overcoating
Renderoc FC (see separate data sheet) can be applied to a
repair area approximately 3-4 hours after application of
Renderoc S. Protective or decorative coatings can be
applied after 7 days.

Precautions
Health and safety
Renderoc S contains cement powders which, when mixed
or become damp, release alkalis which can be harmful to
the skin. During use, avoid inhalation of dust and contact
with skin and eyes. Wear suitable protective clothing,
gloves, eye protection and respiratory protective equipment.
The use of barrier creams provide additional skin protection.
In case of contact with skin, rinse with plenty of clean water, then cleanse with soap and water. In case of contact with
eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of clean water and seek
medical advice. If swallowed, seek medical attention
immediatelydo not induce vomiting.
Fire
Renderoc S is non-flammable
