Dear Parents and Students At yesterday’s assembly we thanked the Year 12 Leaders of 2011 for their leadership of service, faith and commitment; for the love and care shown in their roles as Big Sisters to the Year 8’s; and for their generous and felicitous leadership throughout the year. As Emily and Hayman handed over the Leadership Candle to the incoming Captains for 2012, Sarah and Nina, we prayed that their leadership might also be blessed and guided by the gifts of the Holy Spirit, thus enabling them to be leaders of courage, compassion, conviction and joy. With this week’s First Reading in mind, we also pray that they might be blessed with the gift of Wisdom. We congratulate the following students on their election to Council Leadership roles next year and thank all those students who nominated for positions. We are truly blessed to have such a strong spirit and culture of service. You are all such fine young women. We look forward to the many gifts and talents you will share.

Wisdom is radiant and unfading, and she is easily discerned by those who love her, and is found by those who seek her. She hastens to make herself known to those who desire her. One who rises early to seek her will have no difficulty, for she will be found sitting at the gate. Career News Gap Medics Opportunity Gap Medics are offering an exciting project to students that are looking to apply for university courses in either medicine, nursing, dentistry or midwifery. We are running a special 2 week programme in Tanzania for Australian students during the January holidays and a 2 week placement in Thailand during the April end of term holidays. The placements are designed for Year 11 students thinking of applying for a healthcare related degree to offer them much needed hospital work experience before they apply and to see if a career in healthcare appeals to them. It is also open to Year 12 students who will be looking to apply for healthcare related university courses. The specifics of our two special projects can be viewed on our website http://www.mmtracke.co.uk/5/link.php?M=11421648&N=5653&L=9350&F=T or by visiting http://www.mmtracke.co.uk/5/link.php?M=11421648&N=5653&L=9351&F=T . Students are welcome to contact Gap Medics for any further information and can confirm their place on the programmes via the website too. www.gapmedics.com

Student Connect Site Reminder to all Year 12 students to access the student connect website over the holidays. Your final Year 12 results will appear in your learning account at the end of December. If you are studying a VET course or QCE-recognised course of study, you will be able to see the credits from that course in your account as soon as the course has been completed and your achievement is "banked" by your learning provider. If you are studying mostly Authority or Authority-registered subjects, you will not see results in your learning account until the end of Year 12. This is because Queensland's system of assessment does not confirm results until student work is reviewed by external panels.

Want your results and OP online? Log into your learning account and complete the account activation process so you can access your results as soon as they are available in

December. Log on at https://studentconnect.qsa.qld.edu.au/ Christine Jones - Careers Coordinator

Cupcake Stall for Loreto, Lima Our cupcake stall to raise money for the Loreto school in Lima, Peru made $590. I am so grateful, firstly to Mrs Kerry Tully of Kerry’s Cupcakes (phone 0402563196) who especially made and donated 200 cupcakes as her contribution to students in need. Many of us can testify to the quality of her cupcakes. Year 8 Blue and library assistants also very generously made donuts, cupcakes and other goodies and

had much fun selling them. Come to the library to view the Powerpoint of the day’s activities. Kathy Hedemann Teacher Librarian

Grease Script Read Through

Most of the cast of ‘Grease’ gathered for the first script read through at the Hanrahan Theatre last Friday afternoon. It was exciting to have this first rehearsal before the holiday period and the obvious talent amongst the students will guarantee that ‘Grease’ will be a show to remember. One of the reasons that we had this rehearsal before the start of the holidays was to emphasise a number of things that cast and band members need to remember.

Because the musical is contained within Term1, 2012 it is essential that cast members learn their lines before they come back to school for the New Year.

The first full rehearsal is on Tuesday 17 January, 2012 at Villanova and all cast and band members are expected to attend unless they have confirmed holiday plans and have seen Mr Swanson.

Email communication will be very important and girls are to check their school emails regularly for communication

Girls should see Mrs Radvan If there are questions regarding the script and Mrs Nielson if there are questions regarding the music.

RESULTS FROM ROUND 7 - 2 NOVEMBER

Open A were defeated by Lourdes Hill 40 to 8

As the score suggests Lourdes Hill were too strong on the day. Court transition speed and accuracy of shooting was a feature of their game.

To their credit, Loreto worked hard all match to try and bridge the gap. Unfortunately, the opposition was too good on this occasion.

Open B defeated MSM 26 to 16

Loreto showed improved form from their disappointing loss last week. Shooting was more accurate, defense was strong and passes hit their

targets. This was a good team win, with all players contributing in attack and defense.

Intermediate A were defeated by Lourdes Hill 60 to 22

Lourdes Hill were too strong in all facets of the game. Unfortunately, Loreto did not play at their best in this match and this allowed the

score to become one sided. Amber Schmidt had a strong game, displaying accurate shooting. Keep trying hard for the final game!

Intermediate B defeated Brigidine 60 to 10

A strong performance was given in this semi final by an exciting team! The focus for the match was on accurate passing and Loreto delivered

the “goods.” A very disciplined game from all players and a well deserved win. Gabriella Stein had a stand out game with 12 points and 5

rebounds.

Junior A were defeated 31 to 21 by MSM

This was a close game, with Loreto actually winning 2 out of the 4 quarters. Compared to the previous encounter between the 2 teams,

Loreto displayed improved form. Lauren Effeney and Georgia Johnson performed strong lay-ups. A much improved performance, well done!

BSGSA Touch Football This Week’s Draw - Grand Final

Open A OLC v LOR V2 Open B LOR v SSC Villa - Tingalpa V4 Intermediate A LOR v OLC Villa - Tingalpa V6 Intermediate B LOR v LHC (2) Villa - Tingalpa V9 Junior A LHC (1) V LOR State High SH1

Fantastic results have all five Loreto teams contesting grand finals on Wednesday, November 9. Your support would be appreciated.

OPEN A: Coach: Therese Begley LOR 2 - LHC 0

A solid semi-final win! Unfortunately, Carla Wilson injured herself in scoring the opening touchdown and is now out of action with a

fractured fibula. Carla has been a wonderfully versatile player for our team and will be missed in the grand final. All players defended well

and rucked effectively. Our main priority in the final must be, in order, defence, rucking and then attack, as if this is done we are on the front

foot in both attack and defence.

OPEN B: Coach Mitch Edwards LOR11 - SSC 3

A great team effort! All of the tactics worked on at training were implemented. Looking forward to the grand-final!

INTERMEDIATE A Coach: Adam Guest LOR 5 – SSC 2 Celia Lane had a brilliant game to lead the girls to victory. Coco Beylot ran well all game and assisted Maddi Brown and Alex Raison around the ruck. A brilliant team effort!

INTERMEDIATE B Coach: Eliza Mooney & Ellen Luxton LOR 2 – LHC (2)2 A challenging game against LHC and by far our toughest game. The girls had an amazing attacking scoring the best touchdowns of the season. Well done Hannah Wixted and Melissa Roberts for their energetic defence.

JUNIOR A: Coach: David Witt LOR 9 – LHC (2) 6 This was a close game. The players all worked together and showed excellent support for each other with all players rucking well and running hard. Brittany Ryan had an outstanding game crossing the line 4 times. Therese Begley - Touch Football Coordinator
