712 Seek Ye First
1 Seek ye first the kingdom of God,
And His righteousness.
And all these things shall be added unto you!
Allelu, alleluia!
712 Seek Ye First
2 Ask and it shall be given unto you,
Seek and ye shall find,
Knock and the door shall be opened unto you,
Allelu, alleluia!
712 Seek Ye First
3 Man does not live by bread alone,
But by ev’ry word
That proceeds from the mouth of the Lord,
Allelu, alleluia!

The LitanyP Gathered in the name of Jesus and assured of His promised presence, let us call on our heavenly Father for ourselves, for our brothers and sisters in Christ throughout the world, and for all people. P For the holy Christian church, the flock redeemed by Christ the crucified, that God defend His own from every attack of Satan and the world, let us pray to the Lord:C Lord, have mercy. P For faithful proclaimers of the Word of truth, that the good news of salvation in Christ may have free course and be preached to the joy and edification of the faithful as well as those who do not know Christ, let us pray to the Lord:C Lord, have mercy.
P For our communicants this day, that God grant them faith to receive the benefits of life and salvation that He freely bestows in this holy meal, let us pray to the Lord:C Lord, have mercy. P For the various agencies of the church as they make known the love of Christ, remembering this day the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and all those who serve that organization, that by their generous giving and works of mercy they may be a beacon of hope in this dark and lonely world, let us pray to the Lord:C Lord, have mercy. P For the homes in which our people dwell, that God strengthen the bonds of faithfulness between husbands and wives and bless the children that He gives to them, let us pray to the Lord:C Lord, have mercy.
P For marriages where there is ongoing discord and strife, that God grant reconciliation, and for those who are divorced, that He grant them repentance, comfort, and hope as they trust in Him, let us pray to the Lord:C Lord, have mercy.
P For those who suffer from various temptations and wrestle with recurring (besetting) sins, that God, our Refuge, hear their cries of faith for His mercy and grant them deliverance, strength, and peace, let us pray to the Lord:C Lord, have mercy. P For our nation, that God grant safety from our enemies and unity of purpose, for our leaders, that they would serve humbly and honorably, and for all who serve in our Armed Forces, let us pray to the Lord:C Lord, have mercy. P For the sick and infirm, that God heal them according to His good and gracious will and strengthen them as they bear their infirmities with trust in His merciful goodness, let us pray to the Lord:C Lord, have mercy.
P For the dying that the Lord of life uphold them in the true faith, and for those who mourn including Brian and Kendra Bode, Matt and Jackie Tichler and their families, that in their time of sorrow they may cling to the promise of life everlasting in Christ Jesus, let us pray to the Lord:C Lord, have mercy. P For all who have departed this life in God’s friendship, let us give thanks and ask that we be brought with them to the joys of resurrection, let us pray to the Lord:C Lord, have mercy. P Remembering the sufferings and death of Your beloved Son, we place our petitions at Your throne of mercy, trusting Your promise to hear our prayers and grant us all that we need for this life and the life to come, through Jesus Christ, our Lord.C Amen.
CollectAlmighty and gracious God, in every age You have inspired men to labor, with hearts united, in Your kingdom. Continue to grant to the men of this congregation faithfulness in serving You and upholding the truth of Your Word that they, together with us all, may respond to Your redeeming love in Christ Jesus by devoting themselves to seeking and doing Your holy will and following in the footsteps of our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
AMEN.

Readings From Holy Scripture
Psalm 127
P The Old Testament Reading is from the book of Psalms, the 127th chapter.
Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.2 It is in vain that you rise up earlyand go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil;for he gives to his beloved sleep.
Isaiah 54:2–53 Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD,
the fruit of the womb a reward.4 Like arrows in the hand of a warriorare the children of one's youth.5 Blessed is the manwho fills his quiver with them!He shall not be put to shamewhen he speaks with his enemies in the gate.
P This is the Word of the Lord.C Thanks be to God.
Ephesians 5:25–32
P The Epistle is from Ephesians, the fifth chapter.
25Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. 28In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own

bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, 30because we are members of his body. 31“Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” 32This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. P This is the Word of the Lord.C Thanks be to God.

Second Article And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell.

The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
Creed
Third Article I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life T everlasting. Amen.
The Third ArticleOf Sanctification. What does this mean?I believe that I cannot by my own reason or strength believe in Jesus Christ, my Lord, or come to Him; but the Holy Ghost has called me by the Gospel, enlightened me with His gifts, sanctified and kept me in the true faith; even as He calls, gathers, enlightens, and sanctifies the whole Christian Church on earth,

and keeps it with Jesus Christ in the one true faith; in which Christian Church He forgives daily and richly all sins to me and all believers, and at the last day will raise up me and all the dead, and will give to me and to all believers in Christ everlasting life. This is most certainly true.

Sermon
Office of HusbandRecap
God is present in the office of the husband in order that he bless his wife
This is a role of sacrificing his own wants/needs/desires
God’s idea of authority is different from the worlds – In God’s kingdom, authorities are
to serve, not lord – Give not take
“That She Might Be Holy”What does Christ do for the church?
Can a husband fulfill this same role?
How then can a husband do this?•He is charged with his wife’s spiritual welfare – Bringing Christ to her, praying with her•He is the channel for Christ – Christ will love and serve the wife as the husband loves and serves his wife
John 20:21-23The Holy Spirit connects earthly
forgiveness with heavenly forgiveness
Acts 16:33Acts 18:8
Husbands practice their own deeds of “cleansing” too
…forgiving, problem solving, righting the wrongs, doing what is right
Is the church “pure”?
Thus the husband should see his wife…As Christ sees the church “In splendor”
Their relationship was made holy by the Word of God and prayer – the husband “presents her to himself”
Headship1 Corinthians 11:3•Does not denote inequality•In the Trinity, the Son is = the Father•But, there is a relationship of 1. authority & obedience 2. giving and receiving 3. loving and receiving love
OfferingI. GOD'S STEWARDS ARE GOD'S STEWARDS. God's stewards are stewards by virtue of creation and their re-creation in Holy Baptism; therefore, they belong to the Lord. II. GOD'S STEWARDS ARE MANAGERS, NOT OWNERS. God's stewards have been entrusted by God with life and life's resources and given the privilege of responsibly and joyfully managing them for Him. III. GOD'S STEWARDS ARE SAINTS AND SINNERS. God's stewards rejoice in and live out what God has declared them to be through the cross. At the same time His stewards recognize they are sinners who fight sin and its consequences each day.
