(100-150 words)Yesterday morning, Sarah Parker was approaching the main entrance at her sons school, and was about to

open the door when a 12-year old kid pushed straight past her, opened the door and let it slam in her face.

She grabbed him by the collar, pointed out his error, acknowledged his mumbled Sorry and let him go.

Less than two minutes later, another child did exactly the same thing going in the other direction.

Nearly reaching her boiling point, Sarah told the head teacher how she had taught her boys that you always

stand back for a grown-up, always hold the door open and let them go first, say good morning, treat them

with deference, particularly much older people, offer to help, apologise if you bump into someone, smile

and say thank you when someone gives you something or pays you a compliment, say may I, please? not

can I?. Then, she stormed out of his office, saying: You can only teach what you know, but how can

schools expect any level of order when basic courtesies and respect are neither encouraged nor

    demonstrated?
