Last month I referred to two evolution-ary paths of improvement the Heralds have recently taken which have resulted in amazing results. The first was “just do what Tony asks” as suggested by the Toast of Tampa Leaders Ruth Walker and Carol Singleton. TOT is currently fourth in world competition within
the Sweet Adelines Society which was and is an enviable accomplishment.
I would like to say that the Heralds took their suggestion to heart and unconditionally accepted the directions from our Artistic Director,Tony De Rosa, along with our co-director, Clay Hine. What a team! And, what accom-plishment.
As most have heard by now, the Heralds were sixth in the world in the Orlando contest and scored a 91.7 scoring average which is the highest recorded score in our Chap-ter history.
The second path that I mentioned last month as an evolu-tionary step is we now view each member as a performer in whatever production we do, whether that be a show or a contest. Especially during the last contest preparation, the Music Team gave specific focus to each singer as a performer. We were taught to ‘live’ each lyric and to pro-duce each expression in a way that carried the message to our contest audience. The team included two performance coaches — Erin Howden, an outstanding and sought-after coach in our Society and also in the Sweet Adelines Soci-ety, plus she is a gold-medal director within Sweet Ade-lines,and George Gipp, a talented motivational speaker, a contest judge, and an accomplished medal quartet singer.
The migration from singer to performer is a major step for the Heralds and one of the many continued improve-ments that Tony and the Music Team have provided and will continue to provide. The accomplishment in Orlando is now history, to be celebrated, and enjoyed. However, our Chorus will get better. That is the charge. Continuous improvement is a mission that never ends.
Thanks for listening. Dave Roberts

What a Week!Yes, it was amazing to achieve our best score and highest finish ever, but it was also a great week filled with memorable experiences. Here are just a few highlights, illustrated by photos.
We were treated to a surprise visit from the Voices of Liberty who sang a couple of inspirational songs, including You’ll Never Walk Alone. It was amazing!
The Heralds were everywhere!
Max celebrated July 4th in his own unique way
Members of the chorus volunteered for many jobs from registration to door scanners to escorting quartets during the contest.
105 men walked from the rehearsal room to the competition stage to represent the Tampa Chapter.
Lots of rehearsals

I’ve been super blessed to be apart of the Heralds of Harmony. It has provided me a safe haven to just enjoy singing. Today, Tony De Rosa let me wear his medal because of my commitment to the chorus despite the things that have occurred in my life and it’s been one of the biggest honors. Also, Joseph is awesome!Donell Torres
There are NO WORDS! Clay Hine presented me with his 1999 Gold Medal he won with his quar-tet Fred, to wear for the day, due to exemplifying dedication, grit, and positive influence! HOH and AVP have literally changed my life. I am a better man thanks to them and my steadfast faith in my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!John Strain
Tony pulls everyone in close for some last words before our final preparations for the contest stage.
Lots of run-throughs!

On Saturday night the Heralds were invited to sing for the Vocal Majority at their afterglow. After performing a couple of songs, the 135 men of VM joined the Heralds on stage to sing two songs under the direction of Barbershop legend Jim Clancy. It was a moment to remember!
Gold medalist and Tag Master Don Barnick teach-es a tag to Donell, Joseph and Ethan.
We were treated to customized shortbread cookies! Thanks Jodi et al!

“Friends of the Heralds” (FOH) is a fund-raising program that is an important part of the Heralds yearly operating budget. Our mission is to preserve and further develop a cappella singing through musical excellence. FOH was established to help sustain Heralds of Harmony financial needs as we increase the number of singers on the risers and continue to improve our musical performance.
We are a non-profit organization supported by our perfor-mance ticket sales, dues and grants. Under the direction of Tony De Rosa, we will continue to offer the best musical and entertainment experience for our audience. In 2015, we placed in the top ten worldwide at the International Chorus Competition of the Barbershop Harmony Society. In 2017, the Chorus competed at the International level in Las Vegas and received our highest score ever to date, and then followed that up with qualifying for the 2018 Interna-tional Contest with a new level of high score.
The Heralds are poised to continue this significant growth and progression. FOH allows members, Alumni, as well as our friends, family and barbershop fans, to assist us on our musical journey and support our financial needs. If you would like to help in our endeavor with a tax-deductible contribution, please contact Dave Roberts at [email protected], 813-546-8953.
If you wish to write a check, please send to: Heralds of Har-mony; Treasurer - Bill Glasgow; P. O. Box 274076; Tampa, Florida 33688-4076.
We wish to thank the donors listed on this page for their generous contributions in 2017.
