Reading: We didnt start a new sto-
ry or introduce new Spelling words
this week with the snow days and theshortened week. We did focus onfinishing up our 9 week readinggoals for Accelerated Reader. Thisweek we should have been at 89%, and next week will be the end of
the 9 weeks. We do have lots of students going to study hall toread, and they should not have to do that if they are reading athome 20-30 minutes each night. Next week we will be focusing on
the skill of making generalizations about our reading.
Writing: This week we had no new writing prompt but worked with
a 5 point rubric. On our first writing response (clean copy) we hadmany twos and threes. Our goal is 4 with a few folks landing a 5.
After the rewrite we mostly got to 4. Ask your child what the dif-ference is between a 3,4,5? and what they should be3 doing witheach prompt to assure they are not producing work lower than a 4.Next week we will be focusing on troublesome (irregular verbs) forour language/grammar skill.
Social Studies: Worked on Map skills, recognizing the countriesof central and south America. Had our test today. Next week will
be focused on ancientcultures from the area:Olmec, Mayas, Aztecs.
Math: Had our testtoday over order of opera-tions and using algebra-ic expressions.

Kids are encouraged to bring
snacks (healthy, not candy, not
chips, not cookies) if they
would like to have them
throughout the day. I have
asked them not to share unless
they bring enough for every-
one.

grade this week_________
All students have to finish
an ACC Math assignmentMonday and Wednesday.
Those that are behind on
their goals or needing ex-
tra practice will have work
on Tuesday and Thursday.
Additionally students will
be assigned 20 minutes of
AR reading Mon-Thursday.
All students have ACC Reading and
Math goals for each nine weeks. As
shared with parents at conference
time, I will be pushing kids for the
rest of the year to meet these specifi-
cally tailored goals. You may have
already heard that we are tracking
progress on these goals each week,
and this week the goal target was
89%. If a student has not achievedat least 89%of their Reading or
Math Goal, they stay in at recess to
work to catch up. Students can get
ahead of the game by being aware of
the target each week and working to
do just a little more than is expected.
Next weeks target is 100%
