Wichita Public Schools AVID Elective Class (6th Grade ONLY) Recruitment & Selection Process 2020-2021

Steps in Process Date Ongoing Recruitment in Elementary Schools YEAR ROUND Middle schools offering the 6th grade AVID elective (starting in August) will work with the AVID district team and elementary schools within their feeder, to inform schools about the AVID application process and schedule an AVID presentation or parent informational meeting for 5th grade students/families interested in 6th grade AVID. This applies to all feeder elementary schools – both AVID and Non-AVID schools.

Oct 28 – March 13

6th Grade AVID Schools 6th Grade AVID Start Date

CMA, Coleman, Curtis, Hamilton,

Marshall, Mayberry

August: These schools begin the AVID elective in

August of 6th Grade.

Hadley, Robinson January: These schools have students apply during

the 1st semester of 6th grade.

Allison, Brooks, Jardine, Mead, PVMS,

Stucky, Truesdell, Wilbur No 6th Grade AVID Elective Option: These schools do not offer an AVID elective in 6th grade.

Online AVID Application is OPEN for 6th Grade ONLY. Jan 20 – March 13 HARD DEADLINE

All online applications must be complete - including the teacher recommendation. The online application closes.
