4 Plug Information and Specifications
Pin 1. METER POWER SUPPLY & DC VOLTAGE INPUT 1+10.5MIN to +30VMAX DC from battery bank 1 through a 1A fuse (for meter protection).Meter current consumption is approximately 50mA when the back-lighting is switched off.When the back-lighting is switched on current consumption increases to approximately 70mA.
Pin 2. DC VOLTAGE INPUT 20 to +30VMAX DC from Battery bank 2
Pin 3. DC VOLTAGE INPUT 3 OR POSITIVE FEED FROM BILGE PUMP0 to +30VMAX DC from Battery bank 3. Alternatively this input can be used as a bilge pumpmonitor. This is achieved by taking a positive feed from the pump side of the bilge pump floatswitch through a 1A fuse and enabling the meter’s bilge function.
Pin 4. EXTERNAL ALARM OUTPUTThis output can be wired to an external alarm (negative signal). This output is designed toswitch a small external relay and can sink a maximum 100mAMAX at 12V. The relay must havean in-built flyback diode.
Pin 5. BACK LIGHTING INPUTCan be connected to a +10.5VMIN to +30VMAX DC supply to bring the back-lighting onconstantly. The Back Lighting Input could be fed from the Instrumentation Lights circuit so thatthe backlighting is on when the dash is illuminated. Under normal operating conditions back-lighting will start and stay on with each button push for approximately 10 seconds.
Pin 6. DC CURRENT INPUT 1Connected to one core of a screened twisted pair cable from the BATTERY SIDE of theshunt. To be used with a 50mV @ 450Amp current shunt. (e.g. BEP P/N - LB-450-50)

The Bilge Monitor function monitors bilge pump operation24 hours, 7 days a week. It stores the number of bilge pumpoperations and the accumulated operating time. It can bereset when leaving the boat.
The Bilge Monitor function will be automatically set up whena bilge pump legend (i.e. ‘BILGE MID’) is selected for DCVoltage Input 3 ( ‘DCV3’ ) in the ‘LEGEND SETUP’ menu. Ifbilge monitoring is selected then voltage monitoring will beunavailable for that input.
When viewing the Bilge Monitor function press and holdbutton ‘T’ to reset the Bilge Monitor back to zero.
To adjust the contrast of the LCD screen press and holdbutton ‘V/A’ & button ‘C’ down simultaneously forapproximately 10 seconds.
The display will then change to a black pixilated screen.
§ Press button ‘T’ to switch between 7 different contrastadjustment screens.
§ Press button ‘V/A’ to adjust the contrast.
§ Press button ‘C’ to accept the adjusted contrast.

When the meters alarm function is enabled (see ‘SetupMenu’) the alarm symbol will be displayed on eachpage. When an alarm condition occurs, the meters alarmwill sound and the corresponding meter reading will flash.
To permanently mute all alarms, press and hold button ‘C‘.
The display will show the Alarm mute symbol. Repeatto reactivate the alarm.
Note. The alarms are muted by default when they are firstenabled.

10 Setup Mode
In setup mode the buttons are used to navigate the menus and change settings. The buttons functionin all menus as follows :-

10.1 DC Alarm Setup
Entering the setup menuTo enter the setup menu press and hold button ‘V/A’ &button ‘T’ down simultaneously for approximately 3seconds. You will then be presented with the setup menu.Within the setup menu there are a number of submenuswhere you can configure different meter settings.
‘ALARMS’. This option will globally enable or disable themeter’s alarm functions. Select ‘ALARMS’. The menu itemwill flash. Use Button ‘V/A’ and Button ‘C’ to select betweenON, OFF, CONST ON and PULSE ON. Use Button ‘T’ toconfirm the selection.
‘RESET ALL’. This option will reset the meter back to thefactory default settings - all user settings will be lost. Firstselect ‘RESET ALL’. The menu item will flash. Use Button‘V/A’ and Button ‘C’ to select between ‘YES’ and ‘NO’. UseButton ‘T’ to confirm the selection. The display will flash forapprox 2-3 seconds. The unit has now been reset to thefactory default settings.
DCVN HIGHDEFAULT: 15.0V DCRESOLUTION: 0.1V DCRANGE: 0-32V DCDESCRIPTION: A voltage greater than or equal to thisvoltage will cause the alarm to function.
DCVN LOWDEFAULT: 11.0V DCRESOLUTION: 0.1V DCRANGE: 0-32V DCDESCRIPTION: A voltage less than or equal to this voltagewill cause the alarm to function.

10.2 Battery Setup
ACT CAPDEFAULT: 220AHRESOLUTION: 10AHRANGE: 0-3000AHDESCRIPTION: The Actual Capacity is the present state ofcharge of battery bank 1 when the monitor is installed / setup. Ideally the battery will be fully charged and this value willinitially equal the maximum capacity ‘MAX CAP’. Use the‘RST CAPACITY’ function before adjusting.
MAX CAPDEFAULT: 220AHRESOLUTION: 10AHRANGE: 0-3000AHDESCRIPTION: The Maximum capacity of the battery.
RST VOLTDEFAULT: 13.5V DCRESOLUTION: 0.1V DCRANGE: 0-32V DCDESCRIPTION: The charging battery reset voltage. This setting works synergistically with the ‘RSTAMPS’ settings.
RST AMPSDEFAULT: 9ARESOLUTION: 1ARANGE: 0-450ADESCRIPTION: This should be changed to 4% of the battery bank Amp-hour rating. I.e. a 220Amp-hour battery bank = 220*0.04 = 8.8. Therefore use 9 Amps.
CHARGE EFFDEFAULT: 0.85RESOLUTION: 0.01RANGE: 0-1.00DESCRIPTION: Charging Efficiency is set at 85% i.e. the battery will only accept 85% of thecharge current. This is a difficult parameter to set as after 75% recharge, the efficiency will fall off to0% at full charge. The overall efficiency will change with temperature, battery condition, chargingcurrent/voltage and discharge level. Trial and error with general usage is the only way to determinethis value.
PEUKERT EXPDEFAULT: 1.24RESOLUTION: 0.01RANGE: 0-1.50DESCRIPTION: See the section ‘Peukert’s Discharge Rates Calculation’ for more information.
RST CAPACITYDEFAULT: NODESCRIPTION: Will reset the actual battery capacity to the set ‘MAX CAPACITY’. Reset capacityprovides the option to reset the capacity to the programmed maximum value (YES) or to leave it atthe current monitored level (NO). Reset the battery capacity after the meter is correctly installed,calibrated and the battery bank is fully charged.
Note. The battery capacity (Amp-Hours) is reset to the set maximum battery capacity ‘MAX CAP’when both of the following conditions have been met for 5 minutes :-
§ The Battery Voltage is greater than ‘RST VOLT’ (13.5V factory default).§ The Charge Current is less than ‘RST AMPS’ (9A factory default).

DCVN CALDEFAULT: N/ARESOLUTION: 0.1V DCRANGE: 0-30V DCDESCRIPTION: Used to calibrate the voltage for aparticular input. Adjust this value to correspond with aknown voltage applied to the input. This is factory calibratedand the parameter should not need adjustment.
HIAMP CALDEFAULT: N/ARESOLUTION: 1A DCRANGE: 41-450A DCDESCRIPTION: Used to calibrate the high current range.Adjust this reading to correspond with a known load appliedto the system. This is factory calibrated. If current calibrationis necessary, it should be performed under the maximumpossible load, within the specified range, after zeroing themeter with ‘GET AMP ZERO’, at no load.
LOAMP CALDEFAULT: N/ARESOLUTION: 0.1A DCRANGE: 0-40A DCDESCRIPTION: Used to calibrate the low current range.Adjust this reading to correspond with a known load appliedto the system. This is factory calibrated. If current calibrationis necessary it should be performed under the maximumpossible load, within the specified range, after zeroing themeter with ‘GET AMP ZERO’, at no load.
GET AMP ZERODEFAULT: N/ARESOLUTION: 0.1V DCRANGE: 0-450A DCDESCRIPTION: Used to calibrate the zero current point.This should be done after the meter and shunt are correctlyinstalled, and there is no system load. It is imperative thatthere is NO current running though the shunt.

11 Peukert’s Discharge Rates Calculation
The meter uses Peukert’s Equation to calculate battery capacity. Peukert’s equation corrects forbattery inefficiencies and converts the discharge current to an effective discharge related to batterycapacity. Most marine batteries are capacity rated at the 20-hour rate. Ie: A battery discharged for 20hours to a terminal voltage of 10.5v = Amp hours.

Exponent “n” can be calculated for any given battery bank by comparing two discharge cycles.First fully charge battery bank from shore power/genset & discharge at 50% of expected average load(Note time & amps) to 10.5volt terminal voltage (12v system). Recharge fully & discharge at 150% ofexpected average load. Use the following equation.
n = Exponentt1 = The hours of first discharge at amps A 1t2 = The hours of 2nd discharge at amps A 2
Example:
8G4D 180A/HrDischarge 1 = 24 hours @ 7.8 AmpsDischarge 2 = 8 hours @ 20.7 Amps
Program this exponent in to the meters Peukerts setting.
Note. A 0.01 change to Peukerts Exponent can make a significant change to the calculateddischarge. Therefore Peukerts Exponent should be adjusted in small steps.
For example, 100 Amps for 1 hour = 100Amp-hours. Using a Peukert’s exponent of 1.25, A x n x T =100 x 1.25 x 1 = 316 Amp-hours. Thus a 25% exponent change makes 316% change.
Calculating exponent “n” from discharge cycles is the only way to achieve an accurate dischargeexponent. This meter comes with a factory set exponent of 1.25, which is a “rough” average for deepcycle flooded lead acid. If you do not wish to calculate “n” use Table 1 to select a typical “n” for yourbattery type.
If after some time or use (6-12months) the accuracy seems to be degrading (possibly due to batterycondition, temperature, age – charging regime) it will be necessary to recalculate “n”.

12 Tank Calibration Procedure
12.1 Custom Mode
Custom calibration mode allows the user to manually enter the required sender output voltages foreach marking point. This avoids the need of emptying the tank and then re-filling it. However thevalues must have been previously recorded for the tank and sender used.
Step 1. Tank Calculations
Determine the tank volume.
a) Total TANKN Volume = _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Step 2. Tank Setup
a) Enter the ‘TANK SETUP MENU’b) Set ‘DISP’ to the desired display type.c) Set ‘UNITS’ to the desired unitsd) Set ‘TANKN’ volume to that used in STEP 1a.
a) Enter the ‘TANK CALIBRATION MENU’b) Set ‘TANK’ as the tank to be calibrated.c) Select ‘CAL TYPE’ as ‘CUSTOM’.
Step 3. Marking
Each marking point will contain the previously calibrated values or default values if the meter hasbeen reset.

12.2 Marking Mode
Marking calibration mode allows the user to calibrate the meter for the first time and establish themarking value for future reference. This method requires the tank to be empty then gradually filledwith a predetermined volume of liquid until the tank is full. The sender output voltages can then berecorded for future reference.
Step 1. Empty the tank
Ensure the tank is empty.
Step 2. Tank Calculations
Complete the calculation below.
a) Total TANKN Volume = _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _b) TANKN Volume divided by 8 = _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Note. This is the amount of liquid that will be used to calibrate each marking point.
Step 3. Tank Setup
a) Enter the ‘TANK SETUP MENU’b) Set ‘DISP’ to the desired display type.c) Set ‘UNITS’ to the desired unitsd) Set ‘TANKN’ volume to that used in STEP 2a.

It is recommended to use the Notes section of this manual to record the sender output voltage foreach marking point. In the event the meter settings are lost, these can be manually entered to avoidthe need of emptying and then filling the tank.
