We are really looking forward to the Family Movie Night as this is always a wonderful community event. This year we have organised pre-movie activities for the whole family to be involved in and then families can find a comfortable spot on the oval to enjoy the movie with the whole family. We always look forward to seeing past students at this event, but would like to remind families that once the movie begins all children and teenagers need to be seated with their families. We are also celebrating Harmony Week from the 16-20 March, as well as having a Subway Lunch fundraiser. Orders for this close tonight at midnight, so if you want your child to receive a Subway order, please go to Compass and place your order. Our final Parent Helpers session will be run tomorrow morning at 9.15am and the focus will be on Numeracy. All parents are welcome to attend this session, even if you were unable to come to the previous sessions.

For detailed information about all of these events please go to Compass. Coronavirus latest advice The Department of Health and Human Services is working around the clock with health services, the Commonwealth and international agencies to respond to the outbreak of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and to keep the Victorian community safe. At the present time, because there is no evidence of transmission in the community in Victoria, you should continue to go about your daily life and travel and work or study as normal. This includes continuing to use public transport, cars, taxis, hire cars, ridesharing, cycling or walking in public places. The Australian Government has announced travel restrictions on visitors from Iran who are not Australian citizens or permanent residents. These restrictions will be implemented from Sunday 1st March 2020. The seven day extension to existing travel restrictions for visitors from mainland China remains in place. Visitors from mainland China who are not Australian citizens or permanent residents, or their dependants will not be allowed entry into Australia. These restrictions will be reviewed by Saturday 7th March 2020. Parents/guardians/carers should ensure that any child returning from mainland China (not including Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan) from 1 February or Iran from 1 March is isolated at home and should not attend school until 14 days after they were last in mainland China or Iran. The Australian Government has also recommended against Australians travelling to mainland China or Iran at the current time. The Department of Health and Human Services has information for the public about novel coronavirus, see: Information for the public - novel coronavirus

This year we are linking Harmony Week with The National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence (NDA). We are encouraging all staff and students at THPS to wear one

piece of clothing or item that is orange when we come together for a whole school picnic on Friday 20th March (weather permitting) to promote and say…

Bullying. No Way! Everyone Belongs!

Social and Emotional Learning

In the classroom our students are learning to engage collaboratively and to build social skills. Students are learning about Emotional Literacy and identifying their Personal Strengths. We encourage you to talk to your child about identifying their own emotions and personal strengths. Some of the key elements covered in the learning activities are:

• Self-awareness, like identifying emotions, recognising strengths and needs, and developing a growth mindset

• Self-management, like managing emotions, controlling impulses, and setting goals

• Social awareness, like seeing things from other people’s perspective, showing empathy, and appreciating diversity

• Relationship skills, like communication, cooperation, and conflict resolution

• Responsible decision-making, including thinking about the consequences of personal behaviour

InterInterInterInter----School Swimming 2020School Swimming 2020School Swimming 2020School Swimming 2020

On Friday 28th February, 15 students travelled to Melton Waves to represent Taylors

Hill Primary School at the District Inter-School Swimming. Students represented our

school in individual and team events. Events included 50 metre heats in freestyle,

backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. Our under 9/10 girls and 11 year old girls also

competed in the relays. Jett and Anahli also competed in the open 100 metre freestyle

event. We saw some fantastic swimming on the day and although not everyone placed

all students competed to the best of their abilities and demonstrated our school values

in the right spirit. Stand out results for the day included:

• Jett coming third in the open 100 metre freestyle and as a result he received a

medal.

• Anahli coming second in freestyle and backstroke. These amazing results will see

her compete in the next round of interschool swimming.

We would like to say a big thank you to all the parents and family members who came

and supported us on the day.

AMF CONNECT - CYBER SAFETY

Student Workshops 2020

Taylors Hill Primary School will be hosting the Alannah and Madeline Foundation Connect - Cyber

Safety workshops on Tuesday the 10th and Wednesday the 11th of March for grade 4, 5 and 6 students.

Each class will attend a 60 minute workshop and there is no cost to families.

The Alannah and Madeline Foundation is one of Australia’s most respected children’s charities,

advocating for the safety and wellbeing of children. The foundation is dedicated to reducing the

incidence of bullying, cyber bullying and other cyber risks. Utilising the expertise from their evidence

based programs the foundation have established 'AMF Connect', a service that provides a range of

informative workshops and seminars on topics related to cyber safety, bullying and care.

Workshops will include content around:

Digital Reputations: How to create a positive digital footprint and the potential impact others can have

on your digital footprint.

Use of Social Media and Online Gaming: Overview of the main social media platforms and games

being used by students and awareness around how to use them safely.

This is a fantastic opportunity for students to learn more about online environments and being a safe

and responsible user of technology.

Our parent information session, Parenting in the Digital world, has been postponed until later in the

year.

For more information, you can visit https://www.amf.org.au/or contact Meg Andrews.
