It is a great pleasure for me to be back in Portoroz, where our Slovenian Friends have very successfully organised our Congress in 2013. I am sure that you will share my enthusiasm once you have discovered the beauties of Portoroz and its surroundings, an ideal venue for the 5th Golden Age Gym Festival!

With more than 1800 gymnasts representing the “Golden Age” and coming from many different countries, the success of this 5th edition is already guaranteed and will allow the participants to make new friends, make common experiences in practicing physical and cultural activities and to learn more about distinctive national characteristics.

The Organising Committee offers workshops in many different sport disciplines as Yoga, Tai Chi, Aqua Gymnastics but also many other activities as Bocce, Table Tennis, Nordic Walking and much more; however, I am sure that there will be sufficient time left for cultural visits and pleasant exchanges and meetings.

I would like to express the sincere gratitude of the UEG Authorities to the Slovenian Gymnastics Federation and in particular to the Organising Committee for the great work already accomplished.

I wish all participants a pleasant stay in Portoroz and I am certain that you all will enjoy the Slovenian hospitality and spend a great week on the borders of the Mediterranean Sea!

Dear Friends of Gymnastics,

We are proud to announce that Slovenian Gymnastic Federation will host the biggest Golden Age Gym Festival so far. In Portorož and Piran, we will welcome more than 1800 participants from 18 different countries. It is also our great honor that the festival will be carried out under the honorary patronage of Mr Borut Pahor, President of the Republic of Slovenia, who will also join us in October in Portorož and Piran! We would like to thank all the participants who decided to attend our festival in such a big number and to Mr Borut Pahor who believed in us and became the honorary patron of the Golden Age Gym festival 2016.

We cannot wait for the streets and squares of Porotorž and Piran, beautiful towns on Slovenian coast, get filled with Golden Age Gym Festival spirit. The LOC put a special effort to make this a well-organized festival and together with volunteers, we will make sure that everything at the festival runs smoothly. All the Workshops and City Performances, cultural and social activities, different touristic tours, and the beautiful towns of Piran and Portorož together with great people from all around the world will make a GAGF 2016 an unforgettable experience!

Two years ago, the 5th Golden Age festival was awarded to Slovenian Gymnastics Federation. UEG entrusted us with the organisation of its youngest gymnastics event. We chose the towns of Portorož and Piran as host locations in order to show you friendliness and Mediterranean hospitality of local people as well as an example of romantic landscape of all Slovenian destinations.

We started with our work on the very next day. With a great help of the UEG Gymnastics for All technical committee under the guidance of its all-round president, Alberto Claudino Loureiro Nunes, we did it! We managed to prepare the venues, train the coaches, volunteers and accompanying personnel, who together will produce a magical, creative and feel-good atmosphere for participants from all over Europe and the world. Here and now, you will be able to develop your ideas, present them to international colleagues and the local audience, who will undoubtedly be very perceptive to your vision of our sport.

Welcome participants, welcome visitors! Your presence here is of special importance for the unity within the European Gymnastics Union. We wish you a pleasant time in Slovenia and I hope you will be able to leave with best memories of our country and our people.

The Municipality of Piran is pleased to host The 5th Golden Age Gym Festival in our community.The Municipality of Piran is the tourist capital of Slovenia . The Municipality covers a surface of about 50 square kilometers, has over 17,000 inhabitants. The Municipality offers a wide range of activities from just siiting on the beach, to exploring the narrow streets of Piran,relaxing in one of the wellness centers,or discovering the villages surrounding our municipality. I strongly recommend visitors to taste the excellent food and wines , for which this region is so well known all over the world.

Because life expectancy has lengthened , it is important that »the over 50« maintain an active life style. A healthy active life style also means a better quality of life. This festival is an opportunity for participants to exchange information on sports and recreational possibilities »for the over 50«.

One of the most photogenic cities in the Mediterranean, Piran has preserved its unsurpassed charm. Enter the picturesque Piran, get to know its rich history and culture, and listen to the stories of our people.

The proximity to the sea and the rich history, which is mirrored in the architecture, draw magical scenes.

In Piran, you will feel as though you have stepped right into a picture postcard. You will be charmed by the narrow streets within the old town wall. In the main square, you will be greeted by the statue of the most famous man in Piran, the well-known Giuseppe Tartini, composer and virtuoso violinist who was born in a house just steps from the square. On the pier, you can catch sight of fisherman unravelling a fishing net. Having coffee, lunch or dinner surrounded by sounds of the sea will ensure pleasant memories for a long time to come.

Our town is very proud of its various cultural and art establishments such as the Tartini theatre, coastal galleries, Maritime museum and Aquarium. Many national and international artists gather at the annual Ex-tempore. Throughout the year, many other cultural events take place.

Portorož has been known as a health resort since the 13th century, when monks from the Monastery of St. Lawrence treated people with seawater and brine. Beneficial effects in diseases like rheumatism, dropsy, scrofulous, obesity and wounds were recognized in near and far surroundings.

The port of flowers invites you to take a stroll down the promenade. Even on a cold day a walk along the beach of Portorož and its piers, where you can take a deep breath of sea air, feels good. But if the temperatures are right, don’t hesitate - take a trip to Portorož and jump into the sea!

In our spa and wellness centres, you can renew your energy throughout the year, even during the coldest winter months. There are several bars on the beach that offer a lively atmosphere year round. There you can treat yourself to a cup of fresh coffee after a long walk on the beach. Numerous restaurants by the sea invite you to a tasty lunch or dinner. If you like to party, then you will be excited about many interesting events.

How to reach us

By car or busTravelling by car in Slovenia, you can come to Portorož using the A1 motorway to Koper. Please note that you have to buy a vignette to drive on Slovene motorways. Most of official hotels have their own parking. If your delegation is arriving to Portorož by bus please inform us at [email protected] and we will try to arrange you a parking space for bus.

Transportation during the eventAll venues will be concentrated around the two main hotel complexes – Bernardin and LifeClass – with 1, 3 km distance between them. You can choose to walk and enjoy the beautiful coastline or take a minibus that will be driving between the venues. There will also be bikes at your disposal for a rent.All participants will have free public transport with their accreditations.

Eco friendly festivalGAGF 2016 will take place in a beautiful town of Portorož and Piran which are famous for its clear sea and clean nature. The LOC of GAGF 2016 took some eco-friendly steps, which will together with the help of participants, keep the Portorož and Piran as beautiful and clean as they were before the festival. At the festival you will be able to find cardboard recycling bins for different types of waste. We kindly ask participants to recycle waste to correct bins. We will have eco-responsible transport such as electric cars and vans for festival transportation and participants will also be able to rent a bike to go around the town.

Golden Age Gym Festival 2016 will have two main meeting points.

First and the biggest meeting point will be a GAGF Village (Location 5) located next to the beach in St. Bernardin Resort. It will be perfect place to have a cup of coffee on a sunny day in Portorož and gather all the information that you need about the festival. Also most of the workshops will take place in GAGF Village. GAGF Village will be open from Friday 30th of September until Friday 7th of October 2016 and will be working from 8:30 until 19:00.

GAGF Village GAGF Club MonfortSecond meeting point will be GAGF Club Monfort (Location 4) which is located in a historic salt warehouse that is now transformed into a gallery. There will also be a dancing party every night. GAGF Club Monfort will be open from Monday 3rd of October until Friday 7th of October 2016 and will be working from 8:00 until 24:00.

GAGF 2016 Parade will start at 15:45 from GAGF Village (Location 5) in St. Bernardin Resort. All participants should gather at the starting point of parade at least at 15:15. Delegations will be sorted in French alphabetical order closing with Slovenian delegation. Each delegation has to choose one flag bearer that will walk together with volunteer who will be holding a sign with the name of the country, at the beginning of delegation. We also encourage participants to bring with them and wear at the parade a hat that represents their country. It can be any type of a hat, a funny one, a big one, a handmade one, a traditional one. The Federation with the best hat will be the winner of the parade and participants will get a small award.Parade will be 30 minutes long and we will walk by the cost side from GAGF Village (Location 5) to the Auditorium Portorož (Location 1), where the Opening ceremony will take place. All delegations will enter the Auditorium and will follow the volunteers with the sign of the nation and will be accommodated to their sets. The Opening ceremony will start when the last group will be seated.

In case of rain: a small parade will be held with 5 people from each delegation in Auditorium Portorož. We kindly ask that in case of rain each delegation picks a flag bearer that will together with HOD and 3 participants represent a delegation at the parade. They have to be at the Auditorium at 16:00. All other participants should gather in Auditorium at 16:50 and take sets that will be marked with their flag.

The Opening ceremony will occur in the Auditorium Portorož (Location 1) where the Parade ends. It will be about one hour long show, starting at 17:00. Throughout the performance, we will try to do our best to welcome you in our country. The title for Opening ceremony will be From Slovenia to You with Love! After the Opening ceremony we welcome all the participants to stay at Auditorium Portorož where the official Opening party will take place. We will offer you to taste Slovenian wine and traditional Carniolan sausage that many of you may remember from our presentation in Toulouse. Each participant who booked accommodation through LOC will receive a coupon for a free glass of wine. You will find your coupon in the accreditation.

Opening Ceremony

LOC prepared choreography for Flash Mob of GAGF 2016 and we will all dance it together on The Golden Age Parade. Flash mob was choreographed by Azra Selimanović from Libero Dance Center on a song named “Only Love” from 2002 Slovenian Eurovision contestants Sestre. We chose a song from Eurovision Song Contest because this year Eurovision celebrates 60 year anniversary. You can find a video with step by step choreography at GAGF 2016 website.

GAGF Flash Mob GalaYou will enjoy glorious Gala event in the Auditorium Portorož (Location 1) on 6th of October, from 17.30 to 19.00 pm. The main theme for Gala will be Eurovision, since in 2016 Eurovision song contest will celebrate its 60th anniversary. We hope all the teams have prepared a performance to a Eurovision song.

All communication concerning the Gala will be done directly with the Gala choreographer, who will be in contact with the Gala responsible person from each delegation. All groups can rehearse their performance on official Gala rehearsal that will take place in Auditorium Portorož on Thursday, 6th of October from 13:00 to 16:30.Meeting for Gala Group leaders will be on Sunday from 11:00 – 12:30 in Auditorium Portorož.

The performances at Gala are reserved for Nations that participate at the festival with at least 3 groups. Each performance is limited to 3 minutes, including marching in and out. It’s not allowed to divide the choreography in two parts. The UEG Technical Committee of “Gymnastics for All” can invite further groups from National Federations with exciting performance, like as a good example of how to work with senior gymnasts. For this possibility, the group selected must prepare a presentation shorter than 3 minutes and submit its candidature.

There will be reserved seats for the participating gymnasts in Auditorium Portorož, so they will be able to enjoy the Gala Show.

Final event of the festival will take place in the Auditorium Portorož (Location 1), on 7th of October, from 17.30 to 19.00 pm.

To take part in the Closing Ceremony, gymnasts can enroll during the week, directly with the workshops instructors or at the Info point in the Village every day after workshops from 13:00 until 18:00.

They must choose one of the workshops in which they have participated during the week among those proposed. The rehearsal for Closing ceremony will take place on 7th of October in Auditorium Portorož from 9:30 until 12:00. The main theme for Closing will be Eurovision! After the Closing all participants are invited to join us at a Farewell party.

Opening ceremony, Gala and Closing ceremony will be carried out in a great setting at the large Auditorium Portorož. Auditorium is located in the center of Porotorož and is very close to all other points of interest.

On Monday 3rd, Tuesday 4th and Wednesday 5th of October 2016

City performances will take place in three picturesque squares in Portorož, Bernardin and Piran. Groups should be composed of a minimum of 6 active performers; each group has the opportunity to perform twice during the week. The group should be ready to perform 15 minutes before their scheduled time. Schedules for City performance will be available on our website.

The maximum time for each performance is 6 minutes (including preparation of the venue and marching in and out). Performances shorter than 5 minutes are warmly recommended!

The Organizing Committe will check the music before and in accordance with UEG instructions files with too long music will be rejected.

There will be changing rooms available at all sites. The LOC is not responsible in case of lost or stolen valuables: please keep an eye on your things and do not leave them on the tribunes during your performance.

Performers should take care about props on their own. If you should require additional help from the LOC, please provide a written request as soon as possible. The group is responsible to set up and storage the gymnastic equipment that they will use. They must have an extra copy of their music on CD marked with the name of the group and its code.

Most of the workshops will take place in GAGF Village (Location 5) in the heart of the festival under the shade of the trees and next to the sea. From Monday to Thursday workshops will take place in the morning, from 9:30 until 10:30 and from 11:00 until 12:00. The 2 morning workshops will take place on the same venue. Participants will have 30 minutes between each workshop.

Each participant chose 4 to 6 workshops; we guarantee at least 2 of those that team selected during registration process. Schedule and the listing of participants for every workshop will be available on official GAGF website and in GAGF Info center. No changes will be accepted after the LOC publishes the schedule.

At the workshops venues there will be guides and sings telling you where to go and where you can find your workshop. Almost all workshops will be concentrated in a St. Bernardin resort so you can easily walk to all workshop venues. Also volunteers will be present at the every site in case participants might need help. Gymnasts must arrive in suitable outfit for practice to the workshops, sport shoes for the indoor and outdoor activities and swimwear for water activities.

The Forum will take place on Wednesday the 5th of October at 9:30-12:00 at the Congress Centre LifeClass at the Vasco de Gama hall (Location 3/2)

The Forum will consist of educational matters (theoretical), exchange of ideas and experience between the participants at the Forum. On this Golden Age Gym Festival Forum topic will be: “Innovative choreography”. The focus will be on how to improve your Choreography, and we will try to give you the inspiration to continue with your good work.

The Forum is in first hand organized for Choreographers, team leaders, coaches, assistant coaches and heads of delegations. As a Golden Age participant, you are also welcome, if you feel you gain knowledge from the topics. The official language will be English.

The Forum will be led by Ilona Gerling from German Sport University Cologne for gymnastics and acrobatics. She is at University in the University Committee for giving the Award for best choreography at the University each year (Preis für Inzenierung und Bewegungsgestaltung). Ilona have made her Licence as a choreographer in Switzerland. After that she has developed and evaluated as a head for that area in the German Gymnastics Federation DTB the training education contents and conditions for becoming a choreography license Germany. Special Workshop for Choreography

Special Workshop for Choreography will take place on Tartini square in Piran. The main goal for this workshop is to work with your team, practice your team routine, get inspired and receive feedback- everything to improve your performance. This is an opportunity to work with another choreographer and get some ideas from her. This workshop is for the whole group and the coach must bring the routine music with them and props if any. Workshop for Choreography will be led by Gina Geraldina Gržinič. She has been involved in choreography since she was a teenager. She started as a dancer in show dances and later carried out several workshops and dance courses as a choreographer for show dance and gymnastics. For the last 21 years, she has worked as a PE teacher in high school.

Accreditations center will be a part of Info Center at GAGF Village (Location 5/8). LOC will make an accreditation pick up schedule depending on the time of delegation arrival to Portorož. We will send you the accreditation schedule one week before the festival. Only HOD can pick up accreditations for the whole delegation. HOD will receive accreditation only if delegation paid all the costs and sent declaration of insurance to the LOC.

All payments by the National Federation have to be done before the arrival of the delegation to Portorož. In case that National Federation did not cover all the costs, participants will not be able to check in at the hotel or receive the GAGF accreditation and will not be able to attend GAGF.

All participants of GAGF 2016 must have an adequate insurance in case of illness and accidents. The insurance must cover medical costs during the stay at the site of the event and transportation costs back to the home of the person injured or fallen ill.

LOC prepared a Declaration that has to be signed by National Federation with which they declare that all members of delegation are insured. In case that LOC don’t receive signed Declaration of insurance by National Federation, participants will not receive GAGF accreditation and will not be able to attend GAGF. In case that participant gets injured or gets ill at GAGF and LOC discovers that despite the signed Declaration participant has no insurance, participant has to cover all medical costs on her/his own.

LOC reserves the right to use any photograph/video taken at GAGF 2016, without the expressed written permission of those included within the photograph/video. A person attending GAGF 2016 who does not wish to have their image recorded for distribution should make their wishes known to the photographer and by notifying the LOC by writing his/her intentions and include a photograph to email [email protected]. LOC will use the photo for identification purposes and will hold it in confidence.


At GAGF 2016 we will play the GAGF Puzzle Hunt that will start on Monday on City Performances. Before the event we will do a draw of participating countries and we will pair two counties with each other. Countries will become GAGF friends and they will exchange gifts that they brought for each other on Monday 3rd of October at Get to know each other party in Monfort. But becoming a friend means much more than just exchanging the gifts. Each delegation also has to visit their friend’s performance at City Performance and root for them. And on one of the squares of the City Performances delegation will receive a part of puzzle that they have to bring to Monfort and tape it to the Wall of Friendship. On Wednesday night we will have a complete picture on the Wall of Friendship.

Photo center Every day you will be able to see an exhibition of pictures made during the festival. A professional photographer will take pictures during the whole GAGF 2016 week. You can also contribute your own pictures by sending them to our email [email protected] or posting them to GAGF 2016 Facebook page. Each day we will pick the best picture of the day that will receive a small award. Best pictures will be posted on our GAGF 2016 Facebook page and exhibited in the Village. In the Village we will also have a photo background and different props so you can make your pictures even more unique.

Send home a postcard In photo corner you will have an option of printing out pictures made by our photographer or pictures you made with your phone or camera at GAGF 2016. We will print them as a postcard so you can send it to your friends back home. You will also be able to buy a special GAGF 2016 stamp which will make the postcard even more personalized. We will even have a small post office in GAGF Village where you can leave your postcard and every day at 18:00 we will take them to the post office in Portorož.

Lost and found If you lose something, don’t worry; all things that will be found will be waiting for you at the lost and found point in the GAGF Info center (Location 5/8).

GAGF Open library You can find GAGF Open library (Location 5/13) next to the GAGF Bar in GAGF Village. You’ll be able to find, borrow and read different books and daily newspapers and magazines in foreign languages and grab a coffee at a GAGF Bar next to it.

GAGF Board games In the Village next to the GAGF Bar there will also be a game board corner where you’ll have a chance to play a game of cards, chess, badminton or some other board or recreation game with your friends.

Rent a bike or a car In a GAGF Info Center you will have an option to rent a bike or a car and to go on a trip around Piran and Portorož or different places in Slovenia. If you want to book a car in advance before the festival starts please call +386 41 543 088.

GAGF Club Monfort

Get to know each other party On Monday we will take the opportunity to get to know each other better and to learn new things about participating countries. Every country will get a table where participants will have a chance to present countries products, traditions or maybe sing and dance at a traditional song. Participants please do not forget to bring something special from your country and to prepare your presentation. On Monday Friend delegations will also exchange the gifts, so please bring your gifts! Eurovision and karaoke night Second night will be dedicated to Eurovision and karaoke. You’ll be able to hear different winning Eurovision songs and come on stage and sing your favorite song. Don’t forget, there will be an award for the best karaoke singers.

Pajamas party On the third night will have a pajamas party. Best dressed person or group will be awarded. So don’t forget to bring your best pajama with you.

Back to eighties and Crazy face party Thursday will be dedicated to the music from the eighties and crazy faces. Come early because the make-up artist will paint faces of the first 50 visitors. But we invite you to surprise us and paint your face crazy by your own.

Slovenian Heart Foundation Slovenian Heart Foundation will offer different services at GAGF 2016. Measurement of body composition In this measurment you will get a information about your body composition (weigth, % of body fat, muscle mass, total body water ...). Besides that you can also execute a simple test of your balance and see how good are your ankles at maintaining your balance while standing still. The results also indicate how your ankles respond to different sports movements, which occur during training and competition. Measurements will be available from 3rd until 7th of October 2016 at GAGF Info center.

Tours are organized with tourist buses – for 50 persons. Excursions will be organized only if will be registering 30 persons and more and 10 for tour Piran walking tour and 20 for Boat trip – Salt Pans.

All tours are guided in English language, other languages (German, France, Italian, Balkan languages) are possible on requests.
