A Review of the Guidelines and Restrictions in Place as We Celebrate In-Person Mass:
While we have adjusted some of the restrictions in our Church, several of our restrictions
will remain in place for the foreseeable future.
During the ‘green phase’:
-We still expect all those joining us for Mass to wear a face mask.
-We will continue to social distance in the church, by sitting only in the designated pews.
-Our maintenance staff will continue sanitizing the Church pews and other areas of the church on a regular basis.
-We will continue to use only one set of doors for entrance into the Church, and one set of doors to exit the Church. (Please continue to be deliberately conscious to social distance as you exit the church, by respecting the distance between you and those exiting the Church at the same time.) If you are able to remain in Church for an extra few minutes after Mass, it will greatly lend to a
smooth exit from the Church.
We have introduced some adjustments to our parish restrictions.
Parishioners are welcome to join us for our 12 Noon Mass, as well as the Saturday 5 PM Vigil, Sunday 7:30 AM and Sunday 10:30 AM Masses.
We will continue to live stream the 12 Noon Mass, but we now have equipment in place that allows us to live stream Mass with people present in the Church.
Limited singing has been reintroduced to our Liturgies. For the time being, as a congregation, we will only sing, the Responsorial Psalm, and the Mass parts. Additionally, the cantor, alone, will
sing hymns during the offertory and Communion procession.
Please also note the change to our Communion Stations. Continuing for the foreseeable future, there will be two communion stations near the Saint Joseph Altar and two communion stations
near the Blessed Mother altar. There will not be a Communion Station in the center aisle.
We ask that you form the Communion procession in the exact same way you presently do; however, when you arrive at the front of the center aisle, an usher will guide you across the front
of the Church to stations on either side of the Church. You are asked to return to your pews, as you are accustomed, by way of the side aisles.
For those wishing to receive Holy Communion on the tongue, you are asked to continue to approach only the priest standing near the Blessed Mother altar.
An Extraordinary Minister will bring Holy Communion to those seated in our handicap pews.
As we continue to navigate through these unprecedented times, I hope you join me in realizing our restrictions, while slightly inconvenient, are helping to ensure the safety of all those who join
us for Mass.
099 St. Ephrem 3
Would you like to receive a gluten free host? Not a problem! Please come to the priests’ sacristy 5 minutes before Mass starts
and notify the sacristan. He will put a gluten free host on the altar to be consecrated.
When you come forward to receive communion, come to one of the priests or deacons and request a “special host”.

Nourish for Caregivers is a Christ-centered Catholic ministry that supports the practical, emotional & spiritual needs of family caregivers. Our monthly
meetings are for anyone juggling the challenges of everyday life, health, career and caring for a loved
one, whether it be a family member with disabilities, an ill or aging parent, spouse, friend or grandparent. Meetings are held monthly and are happening online and in person in various
locations/times around the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
To find a group, visit phillyevang.org/nourish, or contact Aimee Gustitis at 610-724-8950
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! As many of you are aware, we have been live-streaming one Sunday Mass each weekend for the benefit of those
who are not able to join us physically for Mass in our Church. At this time, we are presently live-streaming our 12 Noon Mass. Fr. O'Sullivan is looking for parish volunteers
to help coordinate and operate the cameras during our live-streaming. Parishioners (high school sophomores and
older) with basic computer skills are welcome to volunteer for this initiative. Ideally, we need two people to operate the
cameras from the choir loft each Sunday Mass. Father is looking for a team of parishioners to join this effort;
hopefully, we can get at least ten volunteers which would enable flexibility and scheduling of each team member only
once a month. For those who sign up, there will be a brief training session that will last less than one hour. Please call the rectory (215-245-1698) if you are interested in making
sure this important ministry continues in our parish.

This & That (Fr. S. Katziner)
Eighteen-year-old says, “I decided...to work on my faith” I grew up on the outskirts of a small town. Manning, Iowa is a town where everyone knows
everyone. Throughout elementary school and middle school, I went to CCD every Wednesday and learned about the Catholic church. As I grew up, I grew further away from the church. I decided to go to a
university where I am able to work on my faith. I chose Briar Cliff University because of the catholic options and being able to continue my education.
Along with being a Catholic school, I was able to continue my athletic career. Being an athlete has always been a part of my life. I started playing sports when I was in third grade. I played volleyball,
basketball and softball throughout middle school. I also played volleyball and basketball throughout high school, but I added track and field to my career. Track became one of my saving graces. I am an athlete
for the Briar Cliff track team.
“I struggled with anxiety & depression” Going to Briar Cliff University has led me to many good things in my life. I have found some
of my best friends here and continue to grow daily. The first semester of my freshman year, I struggled with anxiety and depression because I was not around family. Having to deal with depression throughout
my first semester was hard for me. I ended up talking to many people who were not a great influence. During that time, I was sexually assaulted and ended up getting more depressed and worse. My friends
would try and cheer me up, but they were not successful. During that time, I got very close with my friends who are intact with their faith. Because of everything that happened in my first semester of school I was
able to get closer to my faith.
I got closer to my faith by going to church, talking with my friends, and going on retreats. The main retreat I went on was Antioch. At Antioch I was able to talk about what I have gone through during my life. Finding my faith has been very important to me. I look forward to getting closer to my faith, and I believe
that continuing my education at Briar Cliff University will help me grow closer to God.
Submitted by Parishioner Peggy Guckin, Past National Director of Catholic Daughters of America
This essay was written by Erin Langel in 2018. She was applying for scholarship money that the Catholic Daughters of America offered. Briar Cliff University is a Franciscan Catholic School located in Sioux City.
Iowa. Currently Erin is a Junior and hopes to graduate next year and work in health care.
