The face ofSAVING LIVESBONFILS BLOOD CENTERBONFILS.ORG | (303) 341-4000717 YOSEMITE ST., DENVER, CO 80230

Established with a charitable gift in 1943 during WWII to support wartime needs, Bonfils Blood Center has grown to become Colorado’s largest nonprofit community blood center, serving hospitals and healthcare organizations statewide. For 73 years, Bonfils has successfully managed the community blood supply and has played an integral role in Colorado’s healthcare system. Providing more than just life-giving blood products, the center offers transfusion assistance and support and consultation services that aid in providing improved care and better outcomes for patients in need. Bonfils even houses a state-of-the-art Reference Laboratory and partners with Blood Systems Research Institute, a preeminent research laboratory in transfusion medicine. In 2015, Bonfils’ Marrow Program fought blood cancer by facilitating 46 blood stem cell or marrow transplants and placing 2,620 potential marrow donors from Colorado and Wyoming on the Be The Match Registry®. Passion comes from saving lives. We live by our values: courage, passion, respect, and trustworthiness. Its distinguished efforts have saved over 10 million lives across Colorado since 1943. The numbers are impressive!

- 70,000 volunteer blood donors - Nearly 400 employees - 900 blood drive host organizations - 100,000 potential marrow donors - 100 healthcare partners - Numerous financial donors (many of whom also give blood)

It truly takes all types of support to provide a safe and adequate blood supply for patients statewide and beyond. The need does not end. The organization depends on thousands of blood donors to meet the weekly needs of the community and to be prepared for unexpected events. To this day, Bonfils is tied to its rich history supporting the military when called upon. Bonfils is one of eight organizations in the U.S. the Department of Defense has designated to supplement the military’s blood supply during conflict. Bonfils’ blood was on the first flight allowed into the New York area following 9/11, and the organization has responded to numerous natural and man-made disasters nationally and locally.

We are proud to be trial lawyers. Trial lawyers are a breed apart from other legal professionals, even those who practice personal injury law. As trial lawyers, we prepare every case in anticipation of going to trial. In doing so, we achieve the best possible outcome for our clients because the defense knows we are not bluffing.

That is one of the reasons Jim Chalat and John Purvis have been selected as 5280 Top Personal Injury Lawyers for the past two years. They have earned the most prestigious credentials that plaintiffs’ trial attorneys can receive from their peers. More importantly, they have earned the endorsements of their clients.

For most clients in a serious personal injury case, the choice of a lawyer will have lifetime consequences. Our trial lawyers understand what it takes to perform at the top level for their clients. They are trial attorneys who represent people seriously injured in auto and truck accidents; ski and snowboard collisions; product liability; and professional malpractice. A free consultation or second opinion with a lawyer—not a call center—is available simply by calling their offices. CALL TO ARMS BREWING CO. CALLTOARMSBREWING.COM | (720) 328-82584526 TENNYSON ST., DENVER, CO 80212

When opening Call to Arms, owners Chris Bell, Jesse Brookstein, and Jon Cross built their entire business model around Tennyson Street and the Berkeley neighborhood of northwest Denver. With a motto of “Quality. Community. Camaraderie.” they take pride in not only serving delicious beers, but also serving the neighborhoods in which they live and work.

Chris, Jesse, and Jon met working at Avery Brewing Co., in Boulder, and when they branched off to start their own brewery, it was quickly decided that Call to Arms would be taproom-forward and family friendly, with a focus on using small business as a means to give back to the Colorado community that’s been so supportive of the craft beer industry.

Starting January 2016, Call to Arms launched its Good Samaritan Program (CTA GSP), which rewards participants with free beer, merchandise, and exclusive events based on the number of hours they volunteer at local not-for-profits Clothes To Kids of Denver and Metro Caring. The CTA GSP will be an ongoing, yearly program that everyone is welcome to join. And for some reason, beer just tastes better after a few hours of volunteer work!

La Loma began as a family-owned Mexican restaurant in a small brick house just a block away from what became its landmark location for over forty years, on 26th Ave in Denver. Sonny Brinkerhoff loved the original restaurant, and in 1981, he and his son, William, relocated La Loma from its small house to its flagship location where it has resided ever since. The building was created by combining three Victorian miners’ houses dating from the 1800s. Sonny and William, along with Savina Mendoza, created a menu of Tex-Mex and Mexican favorites that showcased the flavors of the Southwest, featuring award-winning dishes like their renowned green chili, signature margaritas, and fresh tortillas, which are made on display in the dining room.

Now, La Loma is moving and expanding into two new locations. “We’ll continue to showcase our food, and appreciation for our guests, and honor the history of La Loma. The new locations will have many of the same features that are displayed in the original location, most likely the stained glass, some of the roofing and bricks, and the infamous Grandma Mendoza painting,” says owner Mark Brinkerhoff.

Within two years there will be three La Loma locations: Downtown, Platte Valley near the Aquarium, and a third in the Castle Rock area. Late 2016, they will open a new concept, Sierra Grill, in the RidgeGate community. Sierra Grill will feature a large wood-fired grill, and offer the flavors of the southwest.

BACHUS & SCHANKER COLORADOLAW.NET | (303) 222-22221899 WYNKOOP ST., STE 700, DENVER, CO 80202

Twenty years ago, Kyle Bachus and Darin Schanker were two determined young lawyers who together shared one common dream. They launched Bachus & Schanker’s personal injury law practice from a humble 10 foot by 10 foot office with a lofty goal: create a nationally respected law firm that would provide individuals with the same quality of representation that was usually reserved for only the most powerful and elite corporations and insurance companies. With their only significant equity being that of the sweat variety, Kyle and Darin rolled up their proverbial sleeves and got to work.

Today, Bachus & Schanker is home to over 25 attorneys and 100 total staff, making it one of the largest personal injury law firms in the region. While personal injury continues to be a firm focus, over the years the practice has expanded and diversified to include national plaintiffs’ litigation, addressing a variety of

defective medical devices, products and dangerous drugs, as well as workers’ compensation, Social Security disability and plaintiffs’ employment law.

As advocates in the courtroom, the legislature, and the community, Kyle and Darin work to fight injustice and protect Colorado consumers. Both continue to lead the Bachus & Schanker trial teams in achieving significant personal-injury verdicts throughout the state of Colorado. Through work at the Capitol, the firm has been able to help change Colorado laws to benefit all residents. In addition, Bachus & Schanker is deeply involved in the community through the firm’s foundation and also pro-bono work; helping one of the emergency medical responders who suffered disabling injuries in the 9/11 attacks is one of its most inspiring wins.

Both Darin and Kyle have held significant leadership positions with the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association. Among those, Darin has served as the President of that association, while Kyle has for over a decade been the co-chair of the Auto Litigation Committee. Every year since 2007, Kyle and Darin have been named Colorado Super Lawyers, and have been listed as some of Colorado’s top lawyers in the field of plaintiffs’. Both Darin and Kyle have also been recognized as AV-rated attorneys and pre-eminent lawyers, the highest rating Martindale Hubbell assigns to individual attorneys.

The face of MOUNTAIN LIVINGSUMMIT SKY RANCHSUMMITSKYRANCH.COM | (970) 286-0202 P.O. BOX 2984, 309-M RAINBOW DR., SILVERTHORNE, CO 80498

Tom Everist, developer of Summit Sky Ranch, has been involved in Summit County through his six-generation family business since 1964. Now, this longtime businessman is developing Summit Sky Ranch on his family’s pristine parcel of Rocky Mountain wilderness in Silverthorne, just five minutes north of I-70.

“I envision a vibrant and inclusive community that brings families and their love for the outdoors together to enjoy quintessential Colorado living, and at the same time preserves the natural beauty of the spectacular Blue River Valley that my family has cherished for more than half a century,” said Everist.

Tom’s passion for developing Summit Sky Ranch comes from his belief that personal relationships are at the core of our lives, and the community is being thoughtfully designed to encourage social connectivity among families and neighbors. The Aspen House serves as the community’s social and recreation centerpiece offering everything from coffee to star gazing, yoga to outdoor swimming and more. In warmer weather, residents can kayak and paddleboard on the community’s private lake, and come snowfall they’ll enjoy Nordic trails, ice skating and sledding. Plus, miles of community trails connect to the White River National Forest for year-round enjoyment.

In addition to the thoughtfully designed amenities, the community’s mountain modern design stands apart from more traditional log cabin architecture in the area. With a variety of sizes and floor plans, all of the homes are contextually designed to complement the raw natural beauty of the land, featuring a natural palette and native materials such as wood, stone, granite and quartz. Built with extraordinary architectural design, this community centered development will bring families together to enjoy Colorado living at its finest.

Dr. Elizabeth Crespi and the devoted team at Sunrise Pediatric Dentistry provide high-quality dental services to infants, children and young adults. In order to prevent dental problems, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that children see a pediatric dentist no later than age one. “We want kids to be excited about going to the dentist. That starts by seeing them early and creating positive associations with dentistry. I take pride in using my specialized training in pediatric dentistry to tailor each child’s individual experience,” she says. “I strive for the best quality care while simultaneously making the dental office a fun, inviting place where kids feel safe.”

An important part of Dr. Crespi’s training is her extensive hospital experience in anesthesia and emergency care. When treating patients, she practices specific behavior management and calming techniques. This ensures kids of all ages will have a positive dental visit at Sunrise.

The Sunrise experience begins with the kid-friendly reception area. There is something for all ages: the latest movies, video game consoles, and a multimedia iPad bar. The expert staff walks each child through his or her first dental visit, making it not only fun, but also educational. The office is state of the art with only the latest and safest dental materials and technologies. Parents can relax knowing Sunrise aims to accommodate any family’s busy schedule. The hours are convenient, including after school and Saturdays.

“As the founder of the practice, I believe in delivering the highest standard of pediatric dental care, combined with an exceptional patient experience,” Crespi says. “I look forward to building relationships with our families for many years to come. This is my commitment to our patients, parents and community.”

Inspiration with gratitude. That is our heartbeat; it’s why we do what we do. After 24 years of community support, we are beginning the third chapter in the trilogy of the Walnut Restaurant Group. Via Perla, or “Pearl Street” in Italian, is located at the west end of Pearl Street in Boulder. Everything about our cuisine, experience, and design speak to perfection in simplicity. In a world that revolves around doing more with less, we decided to slow down and get back to the reason our industry was first created: Using great food and wine to bring people together, enjoy conversation, laugh, and create lasting memories. From the ingredients we source to the team we build, we believe in a culture that exudes passion, honesty, and hard work. The best part is we can say this one’s for you. Thank you to our family, friends, and community. We couldn’t do it without you and are excited to share it with you soon. Buon appetito!

Five years ago Sound Relief Hearing Center opened its doors offering specialized help to those living with tinnitus; ringing in the ears, and hyperacusis; sound sensitivity. With a fourth location just opened in Westminster, Dr. Julie Prutsman and her team have helped thousands of people from around Colorado and across the United States.

Dr. Julie grew up in a family of hearing healthcare providers and has always had the heart to help. “I love what I do because I know I can make a difference in someone’s life by helping them overcome the debilitating effects of untreated tinnitus and hearing loss.”

A poignant example of this occurred when the wife of a tinnitus sufferer contacted Dr. Prutsman about her husband who had spent over 30 years in the sheet-metal industry. “Mike had so much noise going on in his head that he had constant migraine-like headaches and couldn’t even sleep. The day Mike started his treatment with Dr. Julie, his headache was 75% reduced by the time we got home,” explains Jill. Mike adds, “I had a bullet ready to go if I heard from one more person that there was nothing else they could do for me. Thankfully, my wife saw Dr. Julie’s commercial and she called!”

“I get frustrated when I hear that patients with tinnitus are still being told there is nothing they can do to get relief. We provide clinically proven treatment options that can make a huge difference,” reports Dr. Prutsman.

The face of (ALMOST) NATURAL BEAUTY STACEY FOLK, MD Dr. Stacey Folk has long been one of Denver’s most highly regarded board-certified plastic surgeons. She has been voted one of 5280’s Top Docs for 13 years and has also received national recognition for her outstanding work in aesthetic surgery of the face, breasts, and body. While all surgeons develop a reputation and niche, Dr. Folk’s has been one of a less heavy-handed approach that appeals to patients preferring a more natural appearance. She has found that patients often seek her out because word on the street is that she won’t push you to go too large on your breast augmentation and your facelift won’t look obvious.

Now in her 50’s herself, the fight against aging has become more personal with an even greater understanding of the work it takes to stay fit and look good. Options for less invasive procedures have grown to accommodate those with shorter downtime, less need, or simple upkeep. When her husband asked if she was purchasing devices merely for her own use she was a bit shocked...of course patients can use them too!

The upside of being one of Denver’s Top Docs? Dr. Folk is in high demand. The downside? Patients may need to be understanding when waiting for their consultation. It is worth the wait and thankfully she has a wonderful staff who can give you a sneak peak to help get you started on your journey.

The face of theHEALTH CENTER MOVEMENT METRO COMMUNITY PROVIDER NETWORKMCPN.ORG | (303) 761-1977

DAVID S. MYERS IS A NAME AND A FACE YOU SHOULD RECOGNIZE: HIS LIFE’S WORK HAS BEEN CENTRAL TO THE COLORADO HEALTH CENTER MOVEMENT.

For the last 34 years, David S. Myers has dedicated his life to affordable care, community health centers, and the patients they serve. In the late 1980s, a group came together to solve the problem of health care access for suburban Denver’s uninsured. Their vision was a system of care spanning all of Denver. In 1993, David Myers was brought in to Metro Community Provider Network, Inc. (MCPN) to make that vision a reality.

Currently, 23 health care center locations are situated strategically in east, west and south suburban Denver areas. An individual can enter any one of those clinics and become a patient within the MCPN system. The vision now also includes comprehensive services (dental, patient navigation, outreach, enrollment, etc.) addressing the needs of various special populations and communities of need (HIV, refugees, homeless etc.). Under David’s tenure, MCPN has grown into an exemplary organization working towards the goals of the Triple Aim: population health, cost efficiency, and patient engagement. Being on a first-name basis with our municipal, state, and local legislators has made a difference in MCPN’s ability to devote a system of care for its patients. Dave does not see obstacles, just new opportunities.

BACKGROUND: Community health centers owe their existence to a remarkable turn of events in U.S. history, and to a few determined community health and civil rights activists working in low-income communities during the 1960s. Today in Colorado, 20 community health centers (CHCs) provide more than 2 million medical, dental, and behavioral health visits, and operate 186 clinic sites in 40 Colorado counties and for patients in 61 counties. In fiscal year 2015, MCPN provided services to 43,344 individuals. David Myers, thank you for being a provocative leader in the community health center movement.

Authentic Italian Food is finally here! Taste of Sicily opened its doors in South Denver on October 21st, 2015 and has been raising the bar in Italian food and desserts ever since.

Owner Aldo and General Manager Lino joined forces and opened this one-of-a-kind restaurant in a central Centennial neighborhood. The team is made up of Sicilian chefs, all of whom Aldo hand selected in 2004 while traveling through his home country of Italy. Executive Chef Pavone Salvo and Pasty Chef Ballotta Giuseppe left their respective kitchens to embark on a 10 year culinary journey with Aldo, including opportunities like opening in the exclusive Parco Leonardo and preparing a lavish meal for the Pope.

After working together at four restaurants in Rome the trio agreed it was time to make the move Stateside. In total, Aldo has moved nine employees from Italy with the help of Chan Law Office. The culinary team is what makes this restaurant so special.

Taste of Sicily offers a familial atmosphere, warm and inviting ambience, and delicious cuisine. Make sure to book a reservation in advance for their specialty Wine Dinners as the intimate space fills up quickly.

The face ofPERSONALIZED MATERNITY CAREBABY + CO.At Baby + Company, we want to change the world one birth at a time. We’re driven by a passion to expand women’s choices: to make what can feel like selecting one of two extremes—hospital delivery and home birth—into a spectrum of options. We’re building birth centers that celebrate our families’ individuality through a model of care that brings together the centuries-old tradition of midwifery with the very best research, resources, and data available today. Our centers are designed to give our families the experience they want. We also provide the information and support they need to make good choices about their health. “When compared to traditional maternity care, we have increased breastfeeding rates, lower cesarean birth rates, and decreased healthcare costs for maternity care,” says Laura Thielke, a certified nurse midwife and the director of clinical operations. “At a more local level, we are seeing women develop community with each other.” At Baby + Co., we believe high-quality care starts with mutual respect and a trusting relationship. “Its amazing what’s possible when you acknowledge that women are experts in their own health and engage them in the development of their own plan of care. Women are more motivated to make changes in health behavior and to enter labor and early parenthood with confidence” Thielke says.

Pregnancy, just like parenting, goes differently for everyone. Our goal is to create opportunities for women, on their own terms, to have the most positive experience possible while surrounded by a team of caregivers who respect their wishes completely.

Diners will relish contemporary Thai cuisine made with the best local and sustainable foods. Chefs from Thailand bring the country’s most cutting-edge flavors to create its new and exciting slow-cooked dishes.

Growing up outside Bangkok where they worked with the land and have a deep appreciation for a sustainable lifestyle, owners and sisters Bo Bean and Arisa Chanchokpong moved to Colorado in 2005 and, along with their mother, opened Aloy Thai in Boulder. Aloy Modern takes a unique twist on the already award-winning dishes, focusing on fresh farm-to-table foods. “Our passion comes from a strong desire to connect health and sustainable foods to dishes that expand our customers’ understanding of Thai cuisine and culture,” Bo says. “Growing up in Thailand, farm-to-table was a way of life and we want to bring that to our customers. Our goal is to create health and happiness for our customers, our staff, and our community. By doing so, we create a perfect customer experience that intertwines slow-cooked and sustainable foods that excite and delight our patrons.”
