    ABSTRACT

Research of longhorn beetle in Enclave area Lore Lindu National Park was conductedduring December 2013 until Mey 2014. The aims of this research was to determine of

longhorn beetles in cocoa and coffee plantations in Enclave area, Lore Lindu National Park,

as well as their distributions, host plants and habitats. Beetles were collected by using

Artocarpus traps. The results showed that 6 species of longhorn beetles were found in cocoa

    and coffee plantations, i.e., Gnoma pulverea,Acalolepta celebensis,A. fasciata,A. montana,

    A. rusticatrix, andEpepeotes plorator celebensis.

Keywords: Longhorn beetle, enclave area, Lore Lindu National Park.

Gnoma pulverea, Acalolepta celebensis, A. fasciata, A. montana, A. rusticatrix, and

    INTRODUCTION

    Longhorn beetle has long antennae.

They are role as fitofag (zdikmen and

Caglar, 2004), can be used as indicators of

    forest conditions (Baur et al., 2005;

    Noerdjito, 2011), pollinators (Gutowski,

1990) and some species is a pest (Asogwa

et al., 2009; Rhainds et al., 2002; Morillo,

    et al., 2008; Kutywayo, 2013).

Longhorn beetles in Indonesia hasbeen studied by many experts, i.e.,

Vives, (2014). Although many studies have

been conducted, but research of longhorn

beetles in Enclave area, Lore Lindu

National Park has not been conducted.

Enclave area of Lore Lindu National

Park located at altitude of 1000 m asl, is a

plantation area of local communities. The

plants cultivated by the people are coffee

    (Coffea robusta) and cocoa (Theobroma

cacao). Some studies has reported that

longhorn beetles a pest on coffee plants (Le

Pelley, 1968; Visitpanich, 1994; Rhainds et

al., 2002; Kutywayo, 2013) and cocoa

    plants (Entwistle, 1972; Snchez &

Capriles, 1979; Morillo et al., 2008). The

aims of this research was to determine of

longhorn beetles in cocoa and coffee

plantations in Enclave area, Lore Lindu

National Park, as well as their distributions,

    host plants and habitats.

    MATERIAL AND METHOD

    The study was conducted from

December 2013 to Mey 2014 in cocoa and

coffee plantations, Tomado and Ancavillages, Sigi District, Central Sulawesi

Province. Each study sites is 1 Ha in every

village, so that total area of study sites are 4

    Ha.

    Longhorn beetles were collected

using leaves and branch of jackfruit plant

(Artocarpus trap) in amount of 20 branches

and the length of 80 cm (Figure 2a)

(Noerdjito, 2008), which tied together and

then mounted to a tree in research plots

with a height of 150 cm from the soil

surface. A total of twelve traps was set up

in the middle of each plot (distance

between the traps approximately 15-18 cm)

    (100cm x 100cm) was used as a collecting

surface and placed under the each trap to

collect the beetles (Figure 2b). Collection

of beetles was carried out 5 times, i.e. on

days 5th, 10th, 15th after the traps were set

up. Beetle specimens were processed in the

    Laboratory of Zoology, Department of

    specimens were identified by using
