Jesus the Good ShepherdAugust 11 to 17: “Blessed are those whom your Lord, upon arrival, find a candle” Luke 12. 37Let us meditate: Are all saved? Wouldn’t it be better to live life well and repent in the end? These and other questions appear frequently among young people. Some think that God, as he is a merciful Father, will turn a blind eye on Judgment Day and put us all in heaven. Others say that, as the last moment is important, a good confession is just before death. These have read very well the story of the “good thief” crucified with Christ. And what do we think?

Salvation is not a day’s thing. It requires always being vigilant. It can help us to do a conscience exam at the end of the day. In fact, those who ex-amine themselves frequently about the state of their soul hardly succumb. As we examine ourselves, we are taking the “temperature” of our soul and discover if it is cold or hot. We know if we are on the right track or there is something to correct. We realize whether or not we are prepared to open the door “to the lord who returns from the wedding”.

Therefore, we should not risk everything for the last moment, because we may be surprised when we least expect it. It is more prudent to follow the advice Jesus gave us: “He who endures to the end will be saved.”

Pray with me: Lord, I believe, I trust and I love you above all things. I ap-proach You in this prayer to revive the faith, to receive the spiritual energy that moves my heart and keeps me on watchful waiting. My God, grant me to live alert, facing eternity, with my clean soul, ready for the definitive encounter with you. . Amen

Purpose: To live responsibly this day, taking advantage of my time, striving to “save time to time”, to commit myself more to the new evange-lization.

Father Wayne discusses the uniqueness of each human life during a recent funeral Mass. St. Joseph’s offers funeral Masses (with Father Wayne officiating), sacred music, rosary vigils, and full receptions in the church hall. If you or your family is in need of these services, please call the Church Office at (831) 475-8211.

St. Joseph’s Volunteers Serve More Than Food The Hearts and Hands Ministry assists with recep-tions provided for family members after a funeral Mass or a memorial Mass. It’s vital that families dealing with the loss of a loved one, have a place to gather for fellowship after the funeral mass.

Our ministry is made of all volunteers who assist in preparing and serving at each reception. We have about 40 to 50 volunteers helping in these activi-ties.

Hearts and Hands volunteers are called a few at a time to handle specific tasks at each reception. For example, some volunteers might be called upon to bring food, such as sandwiches, salads, or deserts. Other volunteers might be called upon to set every-thing up and/or serve food and/or clean up.

If you can spare an hour or two, Hearts and Hands would love to have you join our ministry. Please call Vera Ronzano (479-7575), Marlene Schmidt (476-0861) or Sharlene Hedgepeth (234-0676).
