HOW DO YOU BRING THE OUTSIDE INSIDE?

Space and light is the ultimate luxuryinside any vehicle. It creates morefreedom, greater control and a strongerconnection with the environment aroundyou. By increasing the quarter lightwindows and reducing the width of the A pillars that frame the front section of thenew Jazz, over 10% more light can nowflood through the cabin. Pronounced linesflow from the roof to the bonnetaccentuating the shape of the curvedexterior and tapered rear roof with beesting aerial. The increased wheelbaselength provides both driver andpassengers with more cabin space.Whilst the shortened nose and compactrear-end allows it to maintain an incrediblytight turning circle and also opens upeven the smallest parking spaces.

The hightorsion body rigidity and low centre of gravity ensure you’re placedfirmly on the road. The agile performance is complimented by thesweeping contours of the front and rear bumpers, an impressivegrille and twin-crease bonnet. A new design, which enhances all-round vision, improves aerodynamics and increases thebalance between both ends for greater stability.

HOW DO YOU ENGINEER SPONTANEITY?

It’s the unexpected things that make life exciting. So our engineersfocussed much of their time on making sure the Jazz can respond andadapt to whatever life throws at it. Within seconds it can be anythingfrom a one-seater, in maximum cargo carrying mode, to a five seater.The rear Magic Seats not only have a 60/40 split, they also fold upwardto reveal another huge storage space that’s ideal for kerbside loading.For even more flexibility, the doors open in three moves from 35 to 80degrees, making access and loading easier whatever the cargo.Expecting the unexpected. It’s all part of the Jazz philosophy.

Sometimes a large boot just isn’t enough. What if you need to store smaller,more delicate items, or even dirty ones? Our engineers wanted to create asolution for every storage problem. That’s why they invented an innovativetwo-tier boot that can be configured in four different ways. For thosereally light and small items a cargo net and hooks keep everything safe,separate and easily within reach. With the seats up the Jazz offers upto 448 litres of space within the boot area. With the seats down, theJazz interior opens up to give you even more possibilities. It’s thereason we added a wide opening tailgate, to make loading andunloading easier than ever and allow you to make the most of

every area of available space.



THE MAGIC TOUCH.

One second it’s a row of comfortablycontoured rear seats. The next it’s a hugestorage space big enough for a mountainbike. This is design flexibility at its purest,or as we call it; Magic Seats. With onesimple pull, the lightweight Magic Seatsflip up and lock into place. You can haveone seat up and two down, two up andone down, or all three folded down.It gives you a huge amount of flexibility.So if tight parking restricts access orheavy items need storing - one simplemovement is all it takes. With this amount of flexibility the new Jazz can bewhatever you want it to be. The unique Honda design

allows a lever, operated one-handed from insidethe cabin, to fold the rear seats flat in one motion with

the headrests still in place. Apart from the ease andconvenience, it provides an alternative loading areawhen parking restricts the tailgate from opening fully.For really long items the front passenger seat can fullyrecline meaning the Jazz can accommodate items aslong as 2.4 metres. The Jazz interior is developed tobend, lift and slide into whichever shape youwant. All you have to do is fold away the bits youdon’t need.


HOW DO YOU WANT TO FEELWHEN YOU’RE DRIVING?

At Honda, we understand that how you feel has a big impact onhow you drive. That’s why every single aspect of the Jazz interior

has been intrinsically thought about, to give you the mostcomfortable and relaxed driving environment. Highly supportivetrimmed seats deliver a high level of comfort while still allowingyou to ‘feel the road’ beneath you. The front seats benefit fromlumbar supports with an articulated shape that matches spinalcurvature and protects the torso and pelvis. In the back, threeadults can travel with all the head, leg and shoulder room they

need. Comfort is also increased with a height adjustable driver’sseat and clever ideas including a two tiered refrigerated glove

compartment, additional cup holder behind the gear lever, andstorage trays for both the driver and front passenger. If this

wasn’t enough, blue stitched seat fabric adds a little touch ofluxury to the intelligent interior. All designed so you can

sit, relax, travel and explore in complete comfort.

Why shouldn’t you see more of your journey? The high specificationJazz has a newly designed windscreen and a panoramic roof, whichopens up the road and the sky allowing your surroundings to betaken in at a glance. This means that, along with your sense ofwellbeing, safety is greatly improved. Vast amounts of extra lightand a feeling of greater space bring the outdoors right insidethe vehicle. Just reach up to the roof-mounted controllerand the sunblind will open to the exact position required.Fully opened, the panoramic roof exposes almost theentire cabin to the elements, so passengers can alsoenjoy a real sense of the journey. When rearpassengers aren’t on board, their headrests canbe nestled down to increase visibility behind. Soyou can see the whole world, from any angle.



FEEL GOOD INSIDE.

Driving pleasure is about more than just performance; it’s about the whole driverenvironment. In the Jazz you’ll find an innovative ‘layered concept’ dash, finished in

metallic, it features a sporty trim steering wheel with radio/CD audio controls mountedconveniently on the left. On the right are controls for the multi-information display,

allowing you to cycle through screens carrying information such as mileage, speed, alarm, service reminders and outside temperature.

REDUCE FUEL AND EMISSIONS,NOT PERFORMANCE.

With a fuel injected 1.2 or 1.4 litre i-VTEC petrol engine tochoose from, the Jazz delivers great driveability and anadvanced level of performance. This innovative Honda

engine technology combines adjustable camshaft timingand changeable valve lift, timing and duration to deliver

a combination of improved performance, better fuelefficiency and lower emissions.

Especially designed for compactness, both engines helpto increase cabin space and save weight while also

delivering a punchy performance. To handle this level ofperformance, ventilated front disc brakes are fitted to the

front and solid disc brakes at the rear.

For increased responsiveness, superb handling and agility,the Jazz also has Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) and

an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS). And whatever theroad conditions, the Electronic Power Steering (EPS) helps

smooth the way. The Jazz performs on every single level.

23 24 SAFETY

Safety has always been important to Honda, which is why theJazz is designed with safety at its heart. Using Advanced

Compatibility Engineering (ACE), it’s built round a survival cellconstructed of 42% high tensile steel. Incredibly strong, it

disperses crash energy across the body frame and away fromthe dash and interior, boosting protection to those inside by a

massive 20%. Front and rear crumple zones provide additionalprotection and greatly reduce harm to pedestrians, which is

why the new Jazz retains its impressive 3 star pedestrian rating.

Collisions can come from any angle, that’s why the Jazz hasairbags fitted all round the cabin. Dual Supplemental Restraints

System (SRS) side airbags run down the entire length of the interiorgiving increased protection. The Jazz is also fitted with an intelligent

SRS button allowing the driver to disengage the front passengerairbag when carrying children. In addition, ISOFix child seat

anchors are provided on the rear passenger seats to give addedprotection for your family and extra peace of mind for you.

Advanced sensors work to constantly monitor the grip of theJazz. If they sense a problem, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) will

engage. To correct any concerning manoeuvres, it willautomatically reduce engine power or add the right amount of

braking to the wheels to maintain control. Depending on thesituation, this could be all four wheels, or just the inner or outerwheels. It’s safety technology that works with the road ahead.

That’s forward thinking.

In the event of a collision from behind, the active frontheadrests automatically move forward keeping the head

secure, reducing the effects of whiplash and absorbing anyshockwaves. The 3-point Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR)

seatbelts have pre-tensioners and internal structures tosecurely protect the body of all passengers.

event of it’s occurence.

The assistance program is issued with our compliments and covers all new Hondas

sold and registered in the Republic of Ireland by Universal Honda for a period of 36

Our commitment to give you the best continues with your maintenance, repair and

warranty needs. Your dealer will be pleased to explain the areas which our

standard warranty covers, namely;

1. A 3 year limited to 100,000 kilometres mechanical warranty covers your Jazz

against any defects in materials or workmanship.

2. A 3 year surface corrosion warranty guarantees the paintwork of your Jazz

against defects in materials or workmanship.

3. A 6 year structural corrosion warranty covers the body panels and structural

parts of your car against perforation caused by corrosion from the inside out

(excluding the exhaust system).

Service and Warranty

Active Headrests Jazz’s front seatsincorporate innovative active head restraints thathelp minimise the potential for neck injury fromrear-end collisions. In this type of collision, theoccupant’s body will be pushed against theseatback. The pressure to the seatback is thentransmitted mechanically from the lumbar plate vialinks that push the head restraint upward andforward to reduce the gap between the occupant’shead and seat head restraint. This lessens impactforces on the head, neck and spine, helpingreduce whiplash injuries.

Advanced Compatibility Engineering(ACE) Jazz has been designed with an innovativeframe structure engineered to reduce theconcentrated frontal force on occupants in frontend impacts. Jazz’s Advanced CompatibilityEngineering (ACE) design disperses and absorbscrash energy over a larger area enhancing thepreservation of the cabin space, improving safetyfor all occupants. Additionally, ACE also helps toreduce misalignment with vehicles of different sizes;the design of Jazz’s structure reduces impactforces acting upon other vehicles.

Aerodynamics Aerodynamics refers to theability of a car to overcome the resistance or ‘drag’generated by its body as it moves through theatmosphere. The lower the Coefficient of Drag (Cd)the more aerodynamic the shape. An aerodynamicshape is more fuel efficient, quieter and keeps thecar firmly on the road. The Cd value multiplied bythe cross section area of the car is the wind dragof the car.

Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) ABSprevents the wheels from locking when the brakesare applied in an emergency, reducing thepossibility of a skid on wet, icy or loose surfaces,and enabling the driver to retain steering control.

CO2 Carbon dioxide is one of the exhaust gasesbelieved to be one of the causes of the GreenHouse Effect. The lower the CO2 emissions, thebetter for the environment.

Electronic Brake-force Distribution(EBD) This works in tandem with ABS analysingweight distribution around the car and automaticallyadjusting the braking force applied to front and rearwheels to help maintain directional stability.

Electric Power Steering (EPS) An electricmotor assists steering instead of hydraulics. Runsoff the battery, not engine, so helps to reduceemissions and fuel consumption.

Ergonomics Ergonomics is the applied scienceof designing a working environment, in this casethe car’s cabin, in order to maximise the occupants’comfort and safety. In simple terms, that meanslocating major controls and instruments in a waythat makes them easy and comfortable to use andto see, like Jazz’s dashboard mounted gearshiftand steering wheel mounted controls. This isextended to seating which minimises driver fatigueand discomfort.

Grade Logic An intelligent system built into our6-speed automatic manual transmissions (6AMT).When the Jazz is in fully automatic mode, GradeLogic recognises different driving styles and roadconditions, then selects the optimum gear ratio forsmooth, seamless driving, particularly over hillyroutes and corners.

Hill Start Assist System This prevents rollback whilst changing from accelerator to brakepedal on hills. As well as improving extra grip on hillclimbs, the Hill Start Assist System provides extraconfidence for the driver.

i-Shift Intelligent Shift is Honda’s automatedcontrol of the car’s clutch. Different to an automaticin that i-Shift does not have a torque converter; ithas the same clutch and 6-speed manual gearboxas other cars, but the gear changes can beselected automatically when in auto mode ormanually using steering wheel mounted paddleshifts or the sequential shift lever.

ISOFix Child Seat Restraints ISOFix is afeature which is fast becoming part of the standardequipment installed in new cars. The aim of thisstandard is to avoid incorrect fitting of universal childseats when installed in cars, thus reducing the riskof injury in the event of a collision. The Jazz has twoISOFix anchorage points – the two outer rear seats.

i-VTEC The combination of VTEC and VTC forimproved engine performance, fuel economy andemissions.

Occupant Position Detection System(OPDS) This utilises sensors in the frontpassenger's seatback to detect the height andseating position of the occupant. If a child or adultof small-stature is leaning into the deployment pathof the side airbag, sensors deactivate it.

Torque Torque is a twisting or rotational force. Forexample, when you use a spanner to tighten a bolt,you are actually applying torque to turn the bolt.The further out you hold the spanner, the moretorque you apply. Low rev torque is the ability of anengine to develop strong response (rotationalforce), and hence, acceleration from lower revs andspeeds. As speed rises, torque becomes lessimportant than power for maintaining high speeds.

Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) VSA helpskeep the Jazz on course in adverse drivingconditions by detecting and correcting potentialundersteer or oversteer. The system continuallymonitors vehicle speed, throttle position, individualwheel speeds, steering angle, lateral G-force, and

yaw rate to detect when oversteer or understeer isimminent. When necessary, VSA automaticallyreduces the engine’s torque and uses the ABSsystem to apply brakes to each wheel, as needed,to help stabilise the vehicle. The response is soquick that the instability may be corrected beforethe driver even knows it’s occurring.

VTC (Variable Timing Control) Changesthe timing angle of the intake side camshaft relativeto the crankshaft as engine speed and loadchange. This way the cylinder filling with air/fuelmixture is optimised for improved torque andperformance, with 90% of torque available at just3,000 rpm.

VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and LiftElectronic Control) Varies the amount of valvelift and the duration of valve opening during theintake stroke of each engine cylinder. The effect isoptimised combustion over changing enginespeeds with the result of reduced fuel consumptionand emissions as well as increased engineperformance.
