I am thrilled to be a new member of the team!Throughout my career I have had the privilege of working with a numberof nonprofit community services, including community health, musicand theater programs, and disability services. It is rare to find oneorganization with the variety of outstanding programs and services in aplace as warm and welcoming as The Community House. I warmly inviteyou to take part in the community spirit and lifelong connections that arefound here. Whether your children like to “ham it up” in a theatre classor make new friends in our summer camp and afterschool program, whether you enjoy taking yoga, want to reach out and volunteer, areinterested in support through our counseling center or Charlie’s Giftservices for families living with autism -- we have something foreveryone!

Fall was an exciting season… we hosted the well-attended RotaryRun Charity Classic, held cultural events including youth and communitytheater, and provided classes including the (very popular!) babysittingcertifications at the Youth Center. 450 Active Adults participated inclasses and trips, and 400 volunteers gave their time to strengthencommunity connections. Students from Hinsdale Central High Schooland members of the Newcomers and Neighbors organization madeover 230 fleece blankets for children with cancer. These blankets aredistributed by the Snughugs organization to young patients aroundthe country. I am amazed and moved by the community spirit thatcomes alive here. Thank you for your participation and support –your involvement is what makes The Community House remarkable.

What can you look forward to in 2012? A revitalized website thatwill showcase our full array of programs and services, expandedvolunteer opportunities, broadened support to neighbors in need inour community, and exciting new recreation programs includingfencing and sign language . . . and more opportunities for your wholefamily to become involved!

I invite you to explore us, get to know all that we offer and waysyou can get involved. Building a strong, supportive Communityis the thread that guides our focus, and I look forward to seeingyou at The Community House soon!

The Community House leads the Willowbrook CornerCoalition, which is a group of approximately 21 agencieswho work together to provided services for the residentsof this neighborhood. The neighborhood, commonly

referred to as Willowbrook Corner, because of its location

in the far south east corner of DuPage County consists of

four apartment and condominium complexes. The residents

are primarily low income, minority, and most families consist

of single parent, female lead households.

The Community House has partnered with Burr Ridge

School District 180 to provide an After School Program for

students in grades K-8 who reside in Willowbrook Corner.

School District 180 provides the program space at the local

Elementary School, Anne M. Jeans, which is located within

walking distance to all the apartment complexes in the

neighborhood. The district provides this space free of

charge. The students receive a healthy snack, help with

their homework, and rotate though a series of enrichment

activities. This program is facilitated by The Community

House staff and runs from 3-6pm, Monday through

Thursday and 3-5pm on Friday. The Community House

also provides day long programming, 8:30am-5:30pm in

the school location when school is not in session.

The Community House also provides an OpenRecreational Basketball program for the Middle and HighSchool Students in the neighborhood. The BasketballProgram operates two nights a week, during the wintermonths. The program takes place in the gym of Anne M.Jeans, and is facilitated by Community House staff and aDuPage County Sherriff’s officer.

Programs like this, which exist to meet specific needs inthis neighborhood, would not be possible without the continuedcollaborations between The Community House, Burr RidgeCCSD 180 and the numerous other partner agenciesinvolved in the Coalition. In addition, while nominal fees arecharged for the programs, based on family size and income, these programs rely on and are primary sustained throughgenerous donations from individuals, private foundations, and county funding.

SUPPORTING THE COMMUNITY HOUSEEach year The Community House benefits fromthe generosity of many people. For those of youconsidering a gift to The Community House, many gift options are available. The most popularare listed below:

MATCHING GIFTSMany employers will match the gifts of employees, retirees and members of the corporate boardwhen their gifts are made to nonprofit organizationssuch as The Community House. The amount ofyour personal gift can be doubled, or eventripled, at no additional cost to you if your companyhas a matching gift program. Please contactyour company’s community affairs or humanresources department to see if a matching giftplan is available and if the The CommunityHouse is eligible.

GIFTS OF CASHA gift of cash is the most common form of charitablegiving. An outright gift to The CommunityHouse qualifies as a federal tax deduction forup to 50% of adjusted gross income. If that limitis exceeded in any one year, the excess deductioncan be “carried over” into the next five years. Agift of cash is considered made on the date it ismailed or hand delivered. Gifts delivered ormailed by December 31 qualify for taxdeductibility for the calendar year. Please makechecks payable to: The Community House.

GIFTS OF LIFE INSURANCEA current life insurance policy can be changedor a new policy can be written to name TheCommunity House as owner and beneficiary. Agift of life insurance can provide both a substantialcharitable contribution and tax advantage.

GIFTS BY WILLA carefully prepared will is the best way to

ensure that your loved ones are provided for

after death, and that your preferred charities

are supported as you intend. Once completed,

it can be revised and updated as your wishes

and circumstances change. A simple addition

to a will — “I give, devise and bequeath the

(sum/percentage of/residue of my estate) to The

Community House for such purposes as its

board of trustees shall determine” can provide

long-term benefits for The Community House

and reduce federal estate taxes.

GIFTS OF APPRECIATED SECURITIESOR REAL ESTATEStocks (including mutual funds), many bonds,

other securities and property may make ideal

contributions. When considering the sale of a

particular holding, it is important to first check

with a professional advisor to determine its suitability

as a charitable gift.

MEMORIAL AND TRIBUTE GIFTSMore and more, it is customary for friends and

family members to express their sympathy

through memorial giving as a meaningful way

to offer consolation on the loss of a friend or relative.

At other times, marking a special occasion or an

achievement by honoring a person, couple or

family through a tribute gift may be appreciated

more than a material gift. The amount of your

gift is kept confidential, and the friend or family

member is informed of your thoughtfulness

through an acknowledgement letter from The

Community House.

If you would like gift planning assistance, please callThe Development Office at (630) 323-7500.
