Words from Mrs. Weininger A few Spring reminders: I am confident that spring will come soon, so here are 5 easy reminders that will help us with morning and afternoon routines: 1) If you plan on playing with your child on the playground after school, please park off site. Do not park in the circle drive. 2) After school play is not supervised by WIllowbrook staff. Parents and caretakers are responsible for supervising children at that time. 3) Students cannot play on the playground while waiting for their ride. They must stay on the sidewalk until their ride arrives. Please do not arrange with your child to come "late," so they can play. Children who are not picked up in a timely manner will join Mrs. Baker for after care, for which there is a daily fee. 4) When you are here at school dropping off in the morning or waiting for your child at dismissal please wait outside or in the vestibule. The only exception is if you are signing them out during the school day. Please proceed to the office under those circumstances. 5) When visiting Willowbrook for ANY reason or at ANY time, please check in at the office first. We will deliver items to classrooms etc. Please do not travel to classrooms on your own at drop off, pick up or during the school day. Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction CogATDuring the week of April 15, all students in Grade 3 and Grade 5 willtake the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT). Part of the District'sassessment plan, CogAT measures general and specific cognitiveabilities; a student's ability to reason and problem solve. CogAT is amultilevel battery assessment that provides information in threedomains: verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal. Each domain requiresapproximately 45-60 minutes to administer. In addition, a practice testwill be administered prior to the actual testing session. CogAT is atimed test; however, most students have sufficient time to attemptevery item. Unlike the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP)assessment taken on the computer in September, CogAT is atraditional paper/pencil-testing format. After CogAT is administered, the answer sheets are sent to an outsideagency for scoring. The District should receive results in late May.Results will then be provided to the faculty and to parents. Measures of Academic Progress-MAPMAP testing (Measures of Academic Progress); the District's online, adaptive assessment will again be administered to all students inGrades 1 through 8. The MAP testing window will begin on April 22and continue through May 10. Students in Grades 2 through 8 will takethree assessments: Reading, Mathematics, and Language Usage.Grade 1 will only take Mathematics. Although the testing window is 3weeks in length, actual testing time for your son/daughter isapproximately one hour or less per subject. Also, since testing occursthroughout the entire day please try to minimize student absenteeismduring this testing window. The MAP assessment results will continueto be used by teachers to assist them in differentiating lessons inEnglish/Language Arts and Mathematics, and to measure studentacademic growth. Students' spring assessment reports will beincluded in the end of year report card information. Should you have any questions, regarding CogAT or MAP assessmentplease do not hesitate to contact your building principal or theAssistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. Dr. Melissa E. HirschAssistant Superintendent of Schools for Curriculum and Instruction
