Utility Analysis - Flow Test

A flow test was performed by Architectural Engineers on November 14, 2019. Water pressure was mea-sured at the hydrant in front of the school along Cable Road with no additional hydrants flowing (zero flow). A measurement of 54 psi was recorded. The next step was to flow the hydrant at the back of the school measuring at 750 gpm while taking the pressure measurement at the hydrant in the front of the school. The pressure dropped to 46 psi. There is adequate water to serve the project without a fire pump. A copy of the flow test is attached here.

Soil Analysis - On-site Septic / Sewage Treatment

Per the attached Coastal Engineering Soils Report, “The preliminary test pit findings and infiltrometer test results indicate that the soils present at the property are suitable for subsurface sewage and stormwater disposal.”

Nauset Regional High School - Hydrant Flow Test

Results: A flow pressure curve is created to evaluate available pressure related to the estimated sprinkler flow. Based on the curve and the height of the building, it is determined that a fire pump is not required.

December 19, 2019 Project No. C13788.07 Flansburgh Associates, Inc. Attn: Kent Kovacs 77 North Washington Street Boston, MA 02114 VIA EMAIL: [email protected] Re: Nauset Regional High School 100 Cable Road, Eastham, MA Assessor’s: Map 82, Parcel: A-1 Dear Kent:

On November 27, 2019 Coastal Engineering Co., Inc. observed preliminary soil testing at the Nauset Regional High School. Excavation and backfill of the test pits were done by Reynolds Excavating of Orleans, MA using a backhoe. A total of six test pits (deep observation holes) were dug to depths ranging from 11.5 feet to 12.0 feet. Beneath the topsoil and subsoil, the soils consist of clean sands, ranging from loose, fine sand to medium to coarse sand with gravel and cobbles. No groundwater was encountered in any of the test pits.

We conducted two infiltrometer tests to determine the soil infiltration capacity. The first infiltrometer test was performed adjacent to Test Pit #1 and the second infiltrometer test was performed adjacent to Test Pit #5. Infiltrometer Test #1 was conducted at a depth of 48 inches in a soil stratum of medium sand with fine gravel and gravel. The measured infiltration rate of medium sand ranged from 80.00 inches per hour to 142.86 inches per hour. Test #2 was conducted at a depth of 36 inches in a soil stratum of loose fine sand. The measured infiltration rate of fine sand ranged from 27.15 inches per hour to 46.88 inches per hour.

The preliminary test pit findings and infiltrometer test results indicate that the soils present at the property are suitable for subsurface sewage and stormwater disposal.

Copies of the test pit logs, infiltrometer test results, and a sketch plan showing the test pit locations are attached. Please contact me if you have any questions.

Very truly yours,

COASTAL ENGINEERING CO., INC. David J. Michniewicz, P.E. Vice President
