4-H June Dairy Month

June Dairy Month

Below are the winning county posters and more photos from June Dairy Month.

4-H Finalist for Roundup

Congratulations to Leiah Wilkins, Luke Ford and John Goggans. They have been selected as finalists to

compete at the 95th Annual Roundup and All Star Conference. Leiah will compete in Communications.

Luke will compete in Nutrition, Health and Fitness. John will compete in Performing Arts and Recrea-

tion. They will compete for scholarships, awards and national trip. Senior high youth in 9th through

12th grade may submit a portfolio in the spring for competition.

4-H Junior High Portfolio winners

Carter Barhite, Anne Marie Ford and Desha Wilkins competed in the Eastern Region 4-H Portfolio Contest. Carter

received 1st place in the Electric project, Anne Marie placed 2nd in the Performing Arts and Recreation project and

Desha placed 1st in the Consumer Education and Economics project.

National Cornbread Festival

Congratulations to London. He competed in

the National Cornbread Cook-off.

Below is his recipe. Check out the delicious

Strawberry Short Corncake.

Short Corncake Whipped Cream 1-1/2 cup Flour 1 cup Cold Heavy Whipping Cream 1-1/2 cup Martha White Self Rising Cornmeal Mix 3 T Powdered sugar 3/4 cup Sugar 1/2 tsp Vanilla 2 T Baking Powder 1/4 cup melted Butter Strawberry Topping 1-1/2 cup Milk 1 lb. Strawberries 3 Eggs 2 T Sugar 1 lb. fresh strawberries Pan Spray Method of preparation: Mix all dry ingredients thoroughly. Mix all wet ingredients. Mix wet and dry together. Remove stems from 1lb strawber-ries, slice and lightly mash. Add mashed strawberries at end and fold into mixture. Spray 10 in Lodge Skillet with Pan Spray and pour mixture in. Put in oven, to cook Mix powdered sugar, vanilla and Heavy cream together, whip until light and fluffy. Slice 1 lb. strawberries and toss with 2 T sugar Allow Corncake to cool and cut into 3 inch round pieces, serve with sliced strawberries on cake and dollop of whipped cream. Cooking Temperature: 350 F Time: 45 minutes Number of Servings: 6

4-H Region Clover Bowl Contest

The 2018 Eastern Region 4-H Clover Bowl Contest was held on the campus of The University of Ten-

nessee—Knoxville. Hamilton County was represented by a 4th grade team from Hixson Elementary

and a 5th grade team from Allen Elementary. The 5th grade team from Allen Elementary won the

region contest!

Hamilton County Fair

The 2018 Hamilton County Fair will be held in September.

You can enter many items in the Fair.

4-H County Horse Show

The Mane Attraction 4-H Horse Club hosted an Open 4-H Horse Show. Below are some photos of the

afternoon classes. Another 4-H Open Horse Show is scheduled for September. If you are interested in

the show and want more information about the club, contact the Extension office

Special thanks to Volunteer Leader Adam Presley and the many volunteer leaders and parents who

continually support this 4-H Club. Results of the Eastern Region 4-H Horse Show will be in the July 4-H

4-H Healthy Habits Day Camp We are having another 4-H Healthy Habits Day Camp. It will be held July 12 & 13, 2018, Extension office,

9 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will be open to 20 youth 4th grade through 8th grade. Cost is $10 per person. Call for

a registration packet. Registration will be open until day of camp or until all spaces are filled.

During camp you will learn about food safety, cooking skills, nutrition, teamwork, recreation and more!

Come and be part of these fun filled days.
