According to reports, a Metador bearing registration number JK06- 1340 was on its way to Assar from Doda, on reaching near Enfield Showroom , turned turtle on one side of the road as driver lost control over it while negotiating sharp curve, caus- ing injuries pt in 30 passengers, three of them serious. After getting information, police team and locals rushed to the spot and started rescue operation. "All passengers were rescued from the vehicle and shifted to District Hospital Doda, where from three seri- ously injured including two minors were referred to GMC Jammu for fur- ther treatment," Police said. Police has registered a case in this regard at Police Station Doda. Meanwhile, a Bus (JK02U-6771) which was on its way to Udhampur from Narore turned turtle near village Gandala as driver of the vehicle lost control over it resulting in 32 passen- gers getting injuries. After receiving the information, a police party led by SHO under the supervision by Dy SP (HQ) Kulbir Handa rushed to the spot and shifted all injured to District Hospital Udhampur. At hospital team of doc- tors under the supervision MS Dr. Vijay Basnotra provided first aid to the injured. Out of 32, 20 were dis- charged after first aid while 12 were under treatment at the hospital. Villagers demand degree college STATE TIMES NEWS DODA: Himalayan Social Welfare and Anti- Corruption Society, Kalhota held a meeting under its President Faquir Chand Arman in which the participants highlighted their demands. Faquir Chand Arman said that the people of this area are suffering because of undue power cuts and water scarcity during this holy month of Ramazan. The society appealed to the district administration to issue suitable instructions to the concerned depart- ments to ensure un-inter- rupted power supply and regular water supply. Faquir Chand further demanded that the existing Higher Secondary School Ghowa be upgraded as Government Degree College as due to non-avail- ability of Degree College the students particularly the girls students have to discontinue their further studies. They also demand- ed that Government High School Malhori be upgrad- ed to Highr Secondary School. STATE TIMES NEWS BHADARWAH: Students of Government Higher Secondary School Sartingal, Bhadarwah on Thursday staged a strong protest against the Education Department for their failure to provide adequate infra- structure, teaching staff and drinking water. The protest was organised under the banner of Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) unit Bhadarwah. According to reports, scores of the students assembled outside school premises and tookout a protest rally to Sartingal Chowk, where they held protest against the govern- ment, Education Department and adminis- tration for their failure to redress their demands for the last several years. They simultaneously blocked Sartingal link road connecting Bhadarwah- Chamba interstate road , Bhadarwah-Sartingal road and Sharekhi road at Sartingal Chowk for one hour while raising slogans in favour of their demands, due to which passengers moving towards Sarthal, Bani, Bhejja, Thanala and Sharekhi got stranded. "360 students are enrolled here in this institution and only three rooms are avail- able for them. We are forced to take our classes in open sky", said Abhimanyu Padha, a protesting student. "Due to shortage of infra- structure and teachers our precious time is being wast- ed. Whenever we met the educational authorities they assured us of doing the needful but they do noth- ing,"said Samreen Ul Nisa, a student of 10th class. However, the students have appealed to the con- cerned authorities to inter- vene in the matter, so that their studies don't get affected. "On one side the govern- ment is claiming that it will provide proper education to children especially of the rural area but on the ground, their claim has been proved false and fake," said Madhurima Manhas, anoth- er student of the school. Later, Tehsildar Bhadarwah Masood Ahmed along with SHO Muneer Khan reached the spot and met the protesting students. After listening to their demands, Tehsildar Bhadarwah Masood Ahmed assured them that their demands are genuine and will be redressed at the ear- liest. "Due to lack of infrastruc- ture, tents on temporary basis and desks will be pro- vided at the earliest, besides problems regarding worse conditions of staff, toilets and drinking water will be also solved within days," said Tehsildar Bhadarwah Masood Ahmed. Students protest lack of infrastructure, staff Biker injured in mishap STATE TIMES NEWS SAMBA: A biker got injured on Thursday when his motorcycle was hit by a truck near KFC Sarore in district Samba. According to a report, a motorcycle (JK02BE- 3399) on its way to Jammu from Vijaypur was hit by a truck (JK08E- 4242) near KFC Sarore, resulting in the motorcyclist getting injureies. After receipt of the information Bari Brahmana Plice reached the spot and shifted him to Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu for treatment. Woman consumes drug under mysterious circumstances STATE TIMES NEWS SAMBA: A 28 year old lady took overdose of a drug at her home in village Meen Sarkar Bari Brahmana in district Samba. She has been identified as 28 years Meenu Devi wife of Shamsher Singh resident of Meen Sarkar Bari Brahmana. According a report, , She took overdose of a drug under mys- terious circumstances at her home and on seeing her lying unconscious her family shifted her to ESIC Hospital Bari Brahmana. She was further referred to Government Medical Colege Hospital Jammu for treatment. Police has taken cogni- sance in the matter and started further investigation. STATE TIMES NEWS NOWSHERA: The aggrieved people of various Panchayats under Tehsil Lamberi who did not receive payments of works complet- ed during the period from 2013 to 2017, held a protest against the Rural Development Department and locked the office of BDO Lamberi on Thursday. On arrival the BDO held talks with the protesting peo- ple, listened to their prob- lems and assured them that they will receive the payment of work done by them. STATE TIMES NEWS ARNIA: The residents of Arnia and adjoining areas on Thursday held a protest against unscheduled power cuts. A large number of peo- ple including women and chil- dren from Suhagpur and Arnia assembled near main town Arnia and blocked the road heading towards Jammu. To mark protest, shopkeepers also closed down their business establishments. While speaking Bharat Bhushan Saini said that there is no power supply in Suhagpur for the last three days after wind storm uproot- ed poles and the same have not been restored yet. Protesters demanded regu- lar power supply and alleged that the PDD is imposing unscheduled power cuts, which is creating problems for them in the ongoing hot and humid weather condi- tions. "We apprised the PDD officials many times about the miseries being faced by them on account of unsched- uled power cuts, but they paid no heed, which forced us to come on roads", they said adding that there is dire need of upgradation of existing power infrastructure. STATE TIMES NEWS RAJOURI: District Magistrate, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary on Thursday reviewed the plan for crack- down on illegal mining, stringent legal action and regulation of approved scien- tific plan put in place by Geology & Mining Department. SE Hydraulic Rafiq Khan, ACR A Q Mir, ExEn PHE Nissar Khan, ExEn I&FC Sunil Koul, ExEn PHE Nowshera O P Atri, District Mining Officer and other officers attended the meet- ing. The DDC taking serious note of unprofessional and unregulated mining in vari- ous river beds and directed the departments to furnish a comprehensive notification to ban illegal mining and stringent action instead of vague notification. PHE Department fur- nished information that ille- gal mining carried out at Sangam, Badhoon, Palma, Darhali, Kallar and other areas has affected the sources as well as storage well of the department. Meanwhile, action initiated by Addl Deputy Commissioner, Nowshera has resulted in control of ille- gal extraction which is being strictly assisted by Nowshera PHE Division. It was decided to establish a central control room in the office of Deputy Commissioner to coordinate and take prompt action against persons and organi- sations involved in illegal extraction in notified areas. It also decided to book con- tractors, proprietors of stone crushers, owners of load car- riers wherever illegal mining in reported in prohibited zones. The DMO was direct- ed to convene a meeting with all stakeholders and inform about strict penal action in case of any violation. A joint team of Revenue, Police, Rural Development, PHE, Irrigation and mining departments will conduct test inspections to book the culprits in view of reports of extraction done beyond the limit of 3 meters and in pro- hibited areas It was also decided to launch a public awareness campaign so that general public can act as whistle- blower in case of any illegal mining noticed in prohibited areas like flood embank- ment, 50 metres from periphery road, 500 Mtr upstream/downstream of bridges and water reservoirs / dugwells etc, 20 Mtr upstream/downstream of water works and head works, 10 Mtr from flood embank- ment. A public helpline will be established for prompt reporting. Department of Irrigation and Flood Control has been directed to seize the vehicles engaged in illegal mining and persons frequently involved in such cases may be booked under the strin- gent Public Safety Act in view of serious environmen- tal degradation and safety hazards created. On the occa- sion, In-Charge J&K Grameen Bank and J&K Bank spoke on the various schemes of the bank for the uplift of rural people. According to reports,scores of the studentsassembled outside schoolpremises and tookout aprotest rally to SartingalChowk, where they heldprotest against the govern-ment, EducationDepartment and adminis-tration for their failure toredress their demands forthe last several years.

They simultaneouslyblocked Sartingal link roadconnecting Bhadarwah-Chamba interstate road ,Bhadarwah-Sartingal roadand Sharekhi road atSartingal Chowk for onehour while raising slogans infavour of their demands, dueto which passengers movingtowards Sarthal, Bani,Bhejja, Thanala andSharekhi got stranded.

"360 students are enrolledhere in this institution andonly three rooms are avail-able for them. We are forced

to take our classes in opensky", said AbhimanyuPadha, a protesting student.

"Due to shortage of infra-structure and teachers ourprecious time is being wast-ed. Whenever we met theeducational authorities theyassured us of doing theneedful but they do noth-ing,"said Samreen Ul Nisa,a student of 10th class.

However, the studentshave appealed to the con-cerned authorities to inter-vene in the matter, so thattheir studies don't getaffected.

"On one side the govern-ment is claiming that it willprovide proper education tochildren especially of therural area but on theground, their claim has beenproved false and fake," saidMadhurima Manhas, anoth-er student of the school.

Later, TehsildarBhadarwah Masood Ahmedalong with SHO MuneerKhan reached the spot andmet the protesting students.

After listening to theirdemands, TehsildarBhadarwah Masood Ahmedassured them that theirdemands are genuine andwill be redressed at the ear-liest.

"Due to lack of infrastruc-ture, tents on temporarybasis and desks will be pro-vided at the earliest, besidesproblems regarding worseconditions of staff, toiletsand drinking water will bealso solved within days,"said Tehsildar BhadarwahMasood Ahmed.

After getting assurancefrom the administration,students called off theirprotest and resume theirclasses.

SAMBA: A biker got injured on Thursday when his motorcyclewas hit by a truck near KFC Sarore in district Samba.According to a report, a motorcycle (JK02BE- 3399) on its wayto Jammu from Vijaypur was hit by a truck (JK08E- 4242)near KFC Sarore, resulting in the motorcyclist getting injureies.

areas has affected thesources as well as storagewell of the department.Meanwhile, action initiatedby Addl DeputyCommissioner, Nowsherahas resulted in control of ille-gal extraction which is beingstrictly assisted byNowshera PHE Division.

It was decided to establisha central control room in theoffice of DeputyCommissioner to coordinateand take prompt actionagainst persons and organi-sations involved in illegalextraction in notified areas.It also decided to book con-tractors, proprietors of stonecrushers, owners of load car-riers wherever illegal miningin reported in prohibitedzones. The DMO was direct-ed to convene a meeting withall stakeholders and informabout strict penal action incase of any violation.

culprits in view of reports ofextraction done beyond thelimit of 3 meters and in pro-hibited areas

It was also decided tolaunch a public awarenesscampaign so that generalpublic can act as whistle-blower in case of any illegalmining noticed in prohibitedareas like flood embank-ment, 50 metres fromperiphery road, 500 Mtrupstream/downstream ofbridges and water reservoirs/ dugwells etc, 20 Mtrupstream/downstream ofwater works and head works,10 Mtr from flood embank-ment. A public helpline willbe established for promptreporting.

Department of Irrigationand Flood Control has beendirected to seize the vehiclesengaged in illegal miningand persons frequentlyinvolved in such cases maybe booked under the strin-gent Public Safety Act inview of serious environmen-tal degradation and safetyhazards created.
