Course details

Welcome to the third Annual Nottingham Gastroenterology SCECourse. This 2 day BSG and BASL endorsed course is set to be afantastic event for Gastroenterology trainees of all grades, coveringthe breadth of the 2010 JRCPTB Gastroenterology curriculum,tailored to help trainees prepare for the gastroenterology specialtycertificate examination. This interactive course covers all the coretopics including GI radiology, histopathology and endoscopy imagesreflective of the content of the examination. In addition sessions areincluded on examination technique with the opportunity for real-timemock examinations and quizzes for discussion.

The course has been designed and organised by a ConsultantGastroenterologist who is a MRCP (UK) examiner with the support ofsenior trainees (who have prepared, sat and passed the examination) anda GI Oncologist who is a FRCR examiner.

Our course faculty is comprised of an impressive and broad range ofsenior academic and clinical consultants, many of whom are nationallyand internationally recognised to be experts in their field.

The aim of the course is to provide trainees with a strong foundation inGastroenterology, which can be translated to their day to day clinicalpractice but also provide the necessary skills and knowledge base toenable them to successfully complete the Gastroenterology specialtycertificate examination.

By the end of the course, you will: Have had an interactive learning experience in

Gastroenterology via didactic lectures, radiology/endoscopyimage-based quizzes and interactive case-based MCQsessions

Identify areas of the Royal College of Physicians trainingboard (JRCPTB) 2010 curriculum which have been coveredwithin the course and apply them to your own clinicalpractice

Be able to apply learnt knowledge to the SCE exam. Be able to link your learning experience directly to areas

within your NHS Eportfolio

Receive a course certificate to acknowledge attendance andto claim study leave

Dr Nina LewisNina is a luminal Consultant Gastroenterologist and HonoraryAssistant Professor at Nottingham, with special interests inintestinal inflammation, GI cancer and GI epidemiology. She is aRoyal College Examiner for the written examinations of MRCPand has been Host Examiner for MRCP PACES at NottinghamUniversity Hospital. Nina is an established trainer includinghosting MRCP PACES preparation courses, is an ALS Instructorand has received formal training in teaching methods includingfrom Nottingham University's Postgraduate Certificate in HigherEducation.

Dr Eleanor JamesEleanor is the GI Clinical Oncologist at Nottingham, with aninterest in stereotactic body radiotherapy for UGI and HPB cancers.She is also regional oncology lead in lymphoma where through herrole as secretary to the UK Cutaneous Lymphoma Group sheorganises the national training events. She has extensive experienceof writing and assessing Single Best Answer questions as part of theFRCR examining board.

Dr Caroline SharrattCaroline is a final year Gastroenterology registrar in the EastMidlands Deanery. Her specialist interests are IBD and nutrition,and has completed a year 4 IBD fellowship. She is currently onOOPE, working as a Senior Fellow in Medical Education and sheis involved with training of University of Nottingham medicalstudents. She is a member of the Trent Skills Simulation Centrefaculty and working towards a master’s degree in medicaleducation.
