    Fire Block Sealant FB 1361. Product Description

    3M Fire Block Sealant FB136 is a one component,non-combustible draft,smoke and fireblockingsealant, designed to resisthigh temperatures andsmoke passage in non-rated construction. FireBlock Sealant FB 136meets ASTM E-136,current 2003 InternationalBuilding Code (IBC), 2003International Residential

    Code (IRC), 2003International ResidentialMechanical Code, 2003International Fuel GasCode and NFPA 5000 draft,smoke and fireblockingrequirements.

    3M Fire Block Sealant FB136 features superioradhesion strength, caulkrate and no sag application,plus a halogen-freeformula.

    3M Fire Block Sealant FB136 can be installed with astandard caulking gun,pneumatic pumpingequipment or it can beeasily applied with a puttyknife or trowel. Fire BlockSealant FB 136 will bond toconcrete, brick, metals,wood, plastic and cable

    jacketing. No mixing isrequired.

    2. ApplicationsUse 3M Fire Block SealantFB 136 to seal interiorconstruction voids aroundwires, pipes, HVAC ductsand vents, in wood or steelframed non-ratedconstruction. May also beused around chimney,fireplace and other framinggaps.

    3. Specifications

    ProductThe fireblocking, smokeand draft sealant shall beone-part and non-combustible. The materialshall be thixotropic and beapplicable to overhead,vertical and horizontalapplications. The sealantshall be tested to andpassed the criteria of ASTME 136 Standard TestMethod for Behavior of

    Materials in a Vertical TubeFurnace at 750C (1380F).

    The sealant shall complywith the requirements of theInternational Building Code(IBC), InternationalResidential Code (IRC),International Fire Code(IFC), InternationalMechanical Code (IMC),International Fuel GasCode (IFGC) and NPFA5000.

    5. Installation Techniques

    For Sealing AroundPenetrations:

    A. Clean annular space orjoint area to be filled withFB 136 to remove allgrease, dirt, oil, wax, loosedebris, etc. If required,install a non-combustiblebacking material to assistin FB 136 Sealant

    installations that havelarge annular spaces.

    B. FB 136 Sealant should beapplied at temperaturesabove 40F (5C) and the

    substrate must be frostfree.

    C. Cut the end of the FB 136tube spout to achieve thedesired bead width whenapplying. Install the FB136 to the desired depth inthe void space until the

    sealant is flush with theadjacent floor or wallsurface.

    D. Tool within five (5) minutesof application with aslightly wetted putty knifeor trowel, if required.

    E. Clean all tools with waterimmediately after use.

    For Patching Firebricksand Sealing AroundWood Burning Stoves:

    A. Clean annular space orjoint area to be filledwith FB 136 to removeall grease, dirt, oil, wax,loose debris, etc. Ifrequired, install a non-combustible backing

    material to assist in FB136 Sealantinstallations that havelarge annular spaces.

    B. FB 136 Sealant shouldbe applied attemperatures above40F (5C) and the

    substrate must be frostfree.

    C. Cut the end of the FB136 tube spout toachieve the desired

    bead width whenapplying.

    D. Install the FB 136 intoany void areas orcrevices.

    E. Tool the FB 136 intovoids or crevices withinfive (5) minutes ofapplication until smoothwith a slightly wettedputty knife or trowel.

    F. Clean the surroundingsurfaces with a damp toweland clean all tools withwater immediately afteruse.

    G. Start a low burning fire untilthe product is dry,approximately 1 hour.Increase heat graduallyuntil the FB 136 has cured,approximately 2 hours. Forfirebrick patching, FB 136should be applied in 1/8 in.layers and allowed to cure24 hours between layersprior to fire curing. Firecuring is not necessary untilthe final layer has beeninstalled.

    6. LimitationsA. FB 136 must not be used in

    areas that are expected tocome into contact withwater or exteriorapplications. FORINTERIOR USE ONLY.

    B. FB 136 must not be used inareas that are subject tocontinuous vibration.

    7. Maintenance

    The FB 136 Sealant is stableunder normal storageconditions and has a one yearshelf life. Normal stock andstock rotation arerecommended. FB 136Sealant is also Freeze-ThawStable; however for maximumshelf life, store between 33F(1C) and 90F (27C)

    8. Availability

    3M Brand Fire Block FB 136 isavailable from Authorized 3MFire Protection ProductsDistributors. It is available inthe standard 10.1 fl. oz.cartridge.

    OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. User is responsible for determining whether the 3M

    product is fit for a particular purpose and suitable for users method of application. If this 3M product is

    proved to be defective within the warranty period stated above, your exclusive remedy and 3Ms soleobligation shall be, at 3Ms option, to replace or repair the 3M product or refund the purchase price of the
