The 2015 conference will build on discussions and interactions from a previous conference hosted bythe Island Institutes (WRRC, WERI, PRWRERI, and VI-WRRI) in Honolulu, Hawaii, from November14–16, 2011. The intention of these discussions is to strengthen the synergism between researchersfrom various island states and to develop solutions and ideas on water resources issues that areparticularly relevant to tropical islands. The conference will last for three days with poster and oralspecial sessions. Selected authors of significant contributions will be invited to submit manuscriptsthat will be published in a proceeding volume.

The 2015 conference will build on discussions and interactions from a previous conference hostedby the Island Institutes (WRRC, WERI, PRWRERI, and VI-WRRI) in Honolulu, Hawaii, from November14–16, 2011. The intention of these discussions is to strengthen the synergism between researchersfrom various island states and to develop solutions and ideas on water resources issues that areparticularly relevant to tropical islands. The conference will last for three days with poster and oralspecial sessions. The meeting will close with a panel discussion attended by directors from hostingorganizations to discuss core research capabilities and gaps, focus areas, and opportunities andplans for collaborative work in tropical islands. Selected authors of significant contributions will beinvited to submit manuscripts that will be published in a proceeding volume.
Abstract Submission Deadline: September 11, 2015
Conference technical sessions:1. Methods and tools for determning water sustainability2. Metrics and indicators of water sustainability3. Historical, present, and anticipated patterns in climate (including climate change and variability) and their
impacts on water resources4. Conjunctive management of rainwater catchment, surface water, and groundwater resources5. Protection strategies for island watersheds and aquifers6. Development and improvement of island municipal water distribution systems7. Managing demands and supplies, including water conservation and reuse8. Exploration of new water resources (e.g., high-elevated groundwater sources in American Samoa and
deep aquifers in Hawaii)9. Water quality issues of current and emerging concerns and adaptive management practices and other
