23º SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME "For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." This is a fascinating promise. Jesus enlightens us today about the power of communal faith. He emphasizes that a gathering of like-minded believers, small though it may be, has a powerful effect. As he tells his disci-ples, "If two of you agree on earth about anything for which they are to pray, it shall be granted to them by my heavenly Father." Alright then, what are we waiting for? We should take Jesus up on this amazing offer! Going to Mass is one way to do so. When we gather together every Sunday, we do more than lis-ten to readings and receive the Eucharist. We also PRAY together. The priest leads us in these prayers, of course, but we are meant to join with him, as the Second Vatican Council put it, with "fully conscious, and active participa-tion" (Sacrosanctum Concilium, #14). We are to make the prayers our own by attentively joining in with them from our hearts. Mindlessly reciting "Amen" or absently whispering the words of the Our Father likely loses the effect Jesus was talk-ing about in today's Gospel. But truly praying together with our parish community certainly fits the bill. We need not be at church to fulfill this kind of prayer, however. It only takes two! Those of us who live with others can exercise communal prayer every day in our own homes, just by joining each other for a few moments of petition or praise. Those who live alone may need to reach out more deliberately, but it only takes a phone call to "gather together" with another believer and offer up our prayers. May we have the courage to invite others to join us as we bring our needs to God.

23º DOMINGO DE TIEMPO ORDINARIO
Los problemas comunitarios han existido desde siempre y en este pasaje del Evangelio Jesús da una cátedra del cómo hay que tratar a los hermanos y hermanas pecadores. Como de esto nadie se escapa ya que todos somos pecadores más vale que escuchemos atentamente a los consejos pastorales que Jesús da a sus discípulos para guiar a la comunidad. Pri-mer paso, se inicia con una consulta individual, en la que se habla de corazón a corazón. Segundo paso, más incómodo que el primero, es repetir la reprensión ante testigos. Si la persona no escucha y cambia su modo de proceder hay que denunciarla ante toda la comunidad. ¿Han vivido esto en su comunidad, o en familia? Fijémonos que el evangelista Mateo en los discípulos person-ifica a todos los ministros y líderes que ejercen algún minis-terio en la Iglesia de hoy. La enseñanza se resume en tres pasos. Si no amonesta al pecador, Dios le pedirá cuentas de su vida. Si le escucha habrá salvado a su hermano o hermana. Amar es cumplir la ley entera. Esto nos alerta sobre las co-munidades que no son santas ni perfectas. Al contrario, muchas veces los líderes y ministros de la Iglesia persiguen solo el poder y la manipulación. Tienen ambiciones de pre-dominio aferrándose en sus puestos sin darle oportunidad otros para servir. ¿Cómo se reacciona ante estas situ-aciones? Lo que sí es seguro es la presencia de Dios entre nosotros y Jesús nos lo afirma: "Pues donde dos o tres se reúnen en mi nombre, ahí estoy yo en medio de ellos" (Mt 18, 20). ¡Dios es fiel en cada circunstancia! No lo olvidemos.

Una oración en tiempos de angustia

Works can include door to door evangelization, parishioner visitation, prison minist#!, religious education, visiting the newly baptized, Pilg#im Virgin Stat$e rotations, and basically meeting the spirit$al needs of the parish communit!.
Legionaries are under the g$idance of a spirit$al director named by the pastor. The legion is, in essence, an ex&ension of the hands of the hear& and hands of the Pastor.
We also have a rich heritage of members whose causes are up to Sainthood.
