Well done to OCTOPUS, DOLPHINS AND LIONS CLASS who had 100% attendance

this week, attendance overall was much improved this week—WELL DONE!

We had 10 classes out of 17 receiving a REGISTRATION ON TIME CERTIFICATE this week. Well done to Ladybirds,

Busy Bees, Grasshoppers, Seals, Dolphins, Octopuses, Tigers, Lions, Leopards and Jaguars.

Our Open Mornings began this week and I have to say that it was a pleasure to welcome new visitors to

our school. The children were extremely well behaved and polite to our new families and they were a

credit to the teachers, staff and parents. Thank you very much and well done everyone. Do keep

spreading the positive word about our school and publicise our open days with friends and family.

On Wednesday the children in Year 5 experienced the Astro-dome and were buzzing with facts about

space and our Harvest Festival on Thursday demonstrated how our school family come together to

support the local community.

Next week we will be holding our parent consultations and this is a great time for the teachers to meet

with you as parents/carers and spend time talking to you about your child/children. The online

booking has been open for a week and there is still time to book an appointment if you have not

already done so.

At Parent’ consultation evenings, we will be selling the last slots for our 200 club raffle. With the

national crisis in school funding, I was listening to local colleagues who were telling me that they are

now actively asking parents for cash donations for their school. We don’t want to have to ask parents

for donations, but our 200 club is a way of helping our school and also giving you the chance to win a

cash prize too, which is a lovely bonus! Please support our school as all the money will directly benefit

the children in projects that the children in the school council feed through to the leadership team.

Bring along £24 in cash or cheque and select your number. The first draw will take place very soon.

As the weather is beginning to change and children are coming to school wearing coats can we please

ask that you make sure that these are correctly named. If the children do happen to leave their coats

outside on the playground it is very difficult to return them if they are not named.

A reminder about PE kits. Every child must have a PE kit at school. There are still some children that do

not have PE kits at school and this means that they may miss their PE lesson, which is something that

must not happen

Reculver A team narrowly lost to Joy Lane School on Wednesday.

After a goalless first half Joy Lane took the lead with ten minutes to

go. Pushing for an equaliser, Reculver hit the bar and then were

caught on the break

Man of the match went to Brinley Foster for an excellent performance in defence.

They face another tough match at home to Swalecliffe on Monday. Good Luck!

Firework tickets are now available from a Sunflowers Floristry,

Beltinge and from the PTFA on the small playground at pick up

time from next week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Tickets cost £4 each and under 3 year olds are free. Please bring

the correct change where possible, no cheques please. This is

going to be a very popular event so get your tickets soon!

The PTFA Christmas Craft Fair is on Friday 1st December from

3.15-5.00pm. We will have a range of craft stalls, tombolas and

games for the children to play plus outside craft and gift stalls . If

you would like a stall please email for

Thank you to all of the parents who came along to our Accelerated Reader information night. If

you were unable to come, the PowerPoint Presentation is now on our school website under

‘Accelerated Reader’.

All children in Year 3-6 should have brought home a Home Connect login, so if your child has

not yet produced theirs, do see your child’s class teacher for a replacement. Home Connect will

help you to see the progress that your child is making and also help them to select similar

books in the ZP ability range that they are reading within.

having in school already!

Harvest Festival

This week in worship we have thought about our school Bible verse; 'We show love and compassion for

others by truly helping, and not merely talking about it.' 1 John 3:18. Your generous donations of food and

toiletries for the Canterbury Food Bank are an example of how this Bible verse can be lived out. Thank you

so much, all your donations will be greatly received. We also thought about all we are thankful for and

gave thanks to God for all these things. We thank Rev Sue Martin and Mrs Swansbury for leading our

Harvest Festival on Thursday.

YEAR 1: Year One have spent the week looking at the traditional story of Little Red Riding Hood. The children have described the wolf using some powerful adjectives, sequenced the story with a partner and then re-told the story in their own words using pictures to prompt their thinking. In maths we have been looking at ordinal numbers which they found a little tricky. If you have time to reinforce some of the vocabulary at home it would help to keep it fresh in their minds ready for our early morning maths sessions next week. The children have all brought home their Christmas card designs tonight. In PSHE we have been thinking about what makes us happy and how we can make our school a happy place to be. Please return them to school if you wish to purchase any. Have a lovely weekend, the Year One Team.

EARLY YEARS: This week our learning has been based on the theme 'The Little Red Hen'. On Monday we baked our own bread rolls and then later in the week we buttered and ate the rolls! Yum! In our writing we have been looking at the characters in the story The Little Red Hen and writing the captions 'Not I'. In maths we have been learning how to use our touch and say when counting, and also ordering our numbers to 10. Next week our learning will be around growing, and we would like the children to bring in a baby photo of themselves. If you have any problems printing your photo them please email this to the school office stating your child's name and class.

YEAR 2: Year 2 have been learning about how to write instructions this week. They began the week by making sandwiches and enjoyed eating the finished product! The children wrote their own instructions using time conjunctions and bossy verbs! In art we have been exploring colour mixing in preparation for next weeks art lesson where they will be using the skills learned to mix accurate colours from their observations. In Science we have been learning about the importance of a balanced diet and considered what we needed a lot of, some of and little of. We were really impressed with their understanding.

YEAR 6 Read all about it! Hot off the press! Our year 6 children have been undertaking the role of journalists this week to piece together their evidence of the egg mystery. They are beginning to show some good understanding of the skills we have taught so far in year six. They are a very resilient group of learners who are developing a positive growth mindset. This has been most evident in maths this week where the pupils have been faced with some challenging reasoning questions. They have had some fruitful discussions among their peers about how to tackle each problem. This has also been the case in our RE lessons. We have explored the relationship between science and faith and whether or not these can be complementary or conflicting.

YEAR 3/4: We have had another great week in LKS2. The children have been absorbed in their English writing this week; showing the reader rather than telling the reader how a character is feeling. The children have explored written methods of calculating in their maths and Billy Bones, a special skeletal guest, has been visiting science lessons across the year group. Harvest festival has been a highlight of this week and we thank all members of tour school for their generosity.

YEAR 5: This week in year 5 the children have quite literally been shot into outer space! The university of Kent brought their astrodome to school on the Wednesday, giving the children the opportunity to visit planets within our solar system, travelling through the rings of Saturn and exploring various moons! Their recounts they have written of the experience demonstrate the huge amount of learning that went on during the morning. In science they continued to study the planets showing an understanding of why we have night and day with the trajectory of the Earth around the sun. Last week we all heard the great news that Mr and Mrs D had a healthy baby boy, I’m sure you will join us all in wishing them many congratulations. In RE we have been deepening our understanding of who God is to Christians. Have a great weekend and keep on reading.
