Annual Chemical Cleanout Between now and April 15th Mark bottles with Avery Red Neon Circle
stickers.
Identify any unwanted chemicals by pre-registering with EHS.
Update Labpoint inventory and print new placards if hazard levels change.
Bottles DO NOT need a HazWaste tag, just
a red neon circle sticker.
OK - Unknown chemicals.
NOT OK - DEA Controlled Substances Contact EHS to schedule a drug destruction.

Minors in Labs Policy- Process Arose in feedback to Harvard’s Policy for the Safety
and Protection of Minors.
University Lab Safety Committee – drafted with representation from four lab-based schools
Working draft distributed- Spring 2015
Comments re: Extension School, research animals, “particularly hazardous chemicals”
Final draft accepted at the December meeting of the University Lab Safety Committee
“Live” on January 1st
Applicability
DEFINITION: A Minor is a person under 18 years of age.
EXCEPTION: This policy does not apply to
minors who are enrolled at Harvard as students in a degree-granting program.
Key Points- Age
<13 years: may not be present in a lab -except supervised tour
13-17 years: oWritten consent oDocumented generic and specific training oPersonal Protective Equipment conditions oDirect supervision at all times by a qualified adult
Key Points- Additional Restrictions
Radiation- Must be at least 16 years old to be in a licensed radiation lab.
Lasers- No Class 3B or 4 lasers No work in area requiring respirators Physical Hazards oMachining equipment oPotentially hazardous noise levels oElectrical hazards
