Helpful Hints

1 Always mix your mud (jointcompound) to the desireduniform consistency before spraying – even if the mudis not being thinned

2 Custom splatter finishesare created by changingthe droplet size. Smalldroplets can be producedby turning up the atomiz-ing air at the gun, and

thinning the material mixture.To create largerdroplets, turn down thegun air and/or use athicker mud mixture.

3 Allowing time between thespray application andknocking the finish downwill produce a finish withhigher profile and greater reveal.

4 If using a dry powdermaterial, always pourwater into the mixing con-tainer first, then slowly adddry powder while mixing toa uniform consistency.

5 Always begin working atlow material pressures.Slowly raise the pressure,but only to the minimumpressure required for a

successful application.Using too much pressurecan cause aggregatedmaterials to pack out.

6 To ensure that aggregatedacrylic and elastomericcoatings are stableenough for spraying, mixthe material and let it restfor 30 minutes. Unstablematerials will have large

amounts of liquid at thetop, indicating that they arenot capable of holding theaggregate in suspension.

7 If you are spraying chemical cure products,pay close attention to thematerial’s set time andensure that you fully flushthe system before it begins to set up.
